Literature, Chips and Formats (LCF) Committee REPORT
INTRODUCTION AND COMMENTS:
Dear C.A. Fellowship,
Wow! What a year for the LCF Committee! We are a small but mighty Committee! Following the feedback from last year’s Conference, we decided to slow down and concentrate on progressing existing live projects.
The highlight of the year was the publication and distribution of Recalling the Early Days of C.A. After diligent work from the Ad-hoc Committee and a lot of back and forth, the book was finally sent to print and distributed. Upon completion of the project, all parties involved met to conduct a Project Inventory. We took time to review each point of the LCF Book Approval Process and discuss what went well, what didn’t go so well, and how improve the overall book process and strengthen collaboration and communication between LCF, WSO and WSOB. Following this process, as well as a Traditions Inventory completed by the LCF Committee, further guidelines updates were completed, as presented through the first seven motions below.
In addition, we are presenting three concepts (motions eight to ten). What is a concept, you may ask? A concept is an idea for a new piece of literature or chip, which the Committee discussed during the year. Those ideas can come through a referral from a member or arise from the LCF Committee itself. Following discussion, the LCF members vote on either 1) keeping the idea (AKA concept) in committee for later review, 2) not taking further action, or 3) bringing it to the floor of Conference. What the latter means is

asking for the Conference if the idea/concept is something that they’d see being of benefit to our Fellowship. When the Conference approves the concept, then LCF is mandated to develop the concept into a project.
Your “small but mighty” LCF Committee remains enthusiastic and dedicated to carrying the message to the addict who still suffers. We are equally committed to bringing the voice of our membership to life through our literature, chips and formats, ensuring they continue to reflect our shared experience, strengthen our unity, and support recovery for years to come.
As with many service committees, our biggest challenge is having enough members. We have a number of approved concepts waiting in the pipeline, and having new trusted servants join the Committee would allow more of these projects to move from ideas into reality. If you have a desire to help carry our message through service, we would love to welcome you.

SUMMARY OF COMMITTEE MOTIONS:
A. MOTION 1: Motion to approve the revised section “Committee Trustees”:
Committee Trustee(s)Trustees
The LCF Committee Trustees are assigned by the WSBT and provide support and guidance in all matters related to the Committee’s purpose. Whenever LCF-approved Guidelines or other LCF-related materials are to be distributed to the Fellowship, it is the responsibility of the Lead Trustee(s) assigned at the time such materials are approved to review the materials for accuracy following approval by the LCF Committee, and to sign off on materials forwarded to the WSO for publication and/or distribution. In such cases where the LCF Committee had a Trustee who has rotated off the Board, or in such instances where the LCF Committee had one Trustee at the Conference but due to the spirit of rotation has a different Trustee for the remainder of the year through the next WS Conference, the review
Review shall include one or both LCF Committee Trustees where possible.
The LCF Committee Trustees also coordinate reviews by the WSBT of draft literature or chipdesigns as specified to ensure there are no Tradition violations or other concerns that might affect C.A. as a whole.
In addition, LCF Committee Trustees, in coordination with the LCF Chairperson, review and approve all expenditures.
Finally, the LCF Committee Trustees receive, review and share the LCF Committee Quarterly report with the WSBT.
B. MOTION 2: Motion to approve the new section “Committee WSOB Liaison,” to be inserted after the “Committee Trustees” section:
Committee WSOB Liaison
The WSOB Liaison is assigned by the World Service Office Board (WSOB) to serve as a voting member of the LCF Committee.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Attends monthly main LCF Committee meetings.
2. Ensures access to all forms of communication platforms and electronic documents to the main LCF Committee.
3. Submits regular written progress reports as necessary.
4. Adheres to LCF file naming convention as best as possible.

5. Ensures clear, timely and consistent communication between LCF and the WSOB, without representing the WSOB as a whole.
6. Assists in tasks which support and facilitate Committee functions.
7. Oversees and coordinates the implementation of all WSC-approved changes to literature and chips with the assistance of CAWSO, Inc. vendor(s) and WSO staff.
8. Ensures all materials comply with established Intellectual Property (with assistance of WSBT Trustee(s)) and WSOB Publication Guidelines.
9. Updates Publication tracker on behalf of WSO as deemed necessary.
C. MOTION 3: Motion to approve the updated section “Peer Review of Subcommittee Draft(s)”:
Peer Review of Subcommittee Draft(s): Peer review is a process of evaluation which may be utilized for pamphlet or pamphlet sized drafts. Once a subcommittee approves a draft (or determines that it is unable to do so), it forwards its most recent draft to the LCF Chairperson, who makes it available to the main committee. The time allotted for peer review to begin is suggested to be no less than one month prior to the next scheduled main committee meeting, or other designated meeting for the purpose of literature review.drafts of pamphlets, chip designs, meeting formats, readings and books. Peer review helps expand the group conscience process and often provides additional insight into how the Fellowship is likely to respond to the draft. Additionally, peer review provides extended time for an open discussion forum where LCF members may suggest revisions and interact directly with the draft subcommittee. Once the peer review is closed, the draft subcommittee should ideally be given at least two weeks prior to the next main committee meeting for any needed redrafting and finalization Subcommittee.
Once the Subcommittee approves a draft (or determines that it is unable to do so), it forwards its most recent draft to the LCF Chairperson, who makes it available to the main LCF Committee. The time allotted for peer review is suggested to be two (2) weeks beginning no less than one (1) month prior to the next scheduled main LCF Committee meeting, or other designated meeting for the purpose of literature/chip review. Once the peer review is closed, the Subcommittee should ideally be given at least two (2) weeks prior to the next main LCF Committee meeting for any needed redrafting and finalization. A final draft should be sent to the LCF Chairperson to be included in the next meeting’s agenda.

D. MOTION 4: Motion to approve the updated definition of “pamphlets,” in “Statement of Purpose” in both “C.A. Pamphlet Approval Process” and “C.A. Pamphlet Publication Process” sections: Statement of Purpose: The C.A. Pamphlet Publication Process covers publication of pamphlets following approval by the World Service Conference and professional editing. The term “pamphlet” applies to tri-folded leaflets pamphlets, booklets or other publications, such as meeting formats and readings, from 1 to 25 pages, or less than 15,000 words in length.
E. MOTION 5: Motion to approve the updated Point 11 of the “C.A. Pamphlet Approval Process” section:
Point 11: Following approval by the WSC, the pamphlet isand all signed WSO-approved release forms gathered from the project’s contributors are promptly transmitted within five (5) business days by the LCF Chairperson to the WSO WSOB Liaison, with a copy to the LCF Trustees and the WSOB Liaison,, to arrange for professional editing. Professional editing should take less than thirty (30) days to complete. As part of this process, the WSO should provide the professional editor with a copy of the Cocaine Anonymous World Service Office Publication Guidelines. Professional editing should take less than thirty (30) days to complete. All signed WSO-approved release forms gathered from the project’s contributors should also be transmitted to the WSO at this time. The WSO should discuss the importance of C.A.’s primary purpose with the professional editor, stressing that carrying the C.A. message should take precedence over being grammatically correct.
F. MOTION 6: Motion to approve the updated Point 5 of the “C.A. Pamphlet Publication Process” section:
Point 5: The final wording and formatting (i.e., italics, bold type, paragraphing, etc.) of each piece, both in hard copy and on the website, shall be identical to that approved at Point 12 of the Pamphlet Approval Process. Housekeeping issues may be addressed by the main LCF Committee, working in conjunction with the WSOB Liaison and WSO. No substantive changes shall be made to a piece approved at Point 12 without going back to the Pamphlet Approval Process, starting at Point 5. Once a piece is published, no substantive changes shall be made for a period of five (5) years.

G. MOTION 7: Motion to approve the updated Points 8 to 17 of the “C.A. Book Approval Process” section:
Point 8: The Subcommittee reviews all anonymized submissions as they are received from the designee and determines by group conscience which submissions will be included in the book. If a Subcommittee member recognizes the author of a submission and believes they cannot be impartial, they should abstain from voting on that particular submission.
Point 9: LCF’s involvement in cover design varies from project to project. If the Subcommittee wishes to propose language and/or artwork for the front and/or back cover, it should be included with the draft book reviewed by the main LCF Committee in Point 11.
Point 9 Point 10: An initial rough edit of the book will be performed by Subcommittee members. Although correcting spelling, grammar and punctuation is generally desirable, the Subcommittee may opt in favor of preserving the author’s voice and the original flavor of the submission. Once the Subcommittee has approved a draft, the book is forwarded to LCF. LCF’s involvement in cover design varies from project to project. If the subcommittee wishes to propose language and/or artwork for the front or back cover, it should be included with the draft book reviewed review by the main LCF and by the WSBTCommittee in Points 10 and Point 11, respectively.
Point 10 Point 11: The main LCF Committee reviews the draft (including any cover language and/or artwork) and may make revisions as needed. The goal is for the review to be completed within ninety (90) days. If approved by the main LCF Committee, the book and cover language and/or artwork move to Point 1112. If not approved, the main LCF Committee will return it to the Subcommittee for revision, reassign it to a new Subcommittee, or make a motion at the next WSC to remove it from the process. If the main LCF Committee finds that significant substantive changes have been made to the outline or table of contents initially approved by the WSC, the new book structure will be submitted to the WSC for approval before proceeding.
Point 11 Point 12: The Within five (5) business days, the LCF Chairperson forwards the approved draft is reviewed by the (including any cover language and/or artwork) to the World Service Board of Trustees (WSBT). The draft is reviewed by the WSBT to ensure that there are no Traditions violations or other concerns that might affect Cocaine Anonymous as a whole. If approved by the WSBT, the book moves to Point 1213. If the WSBT finds problems with the draft, which may also include spelling, punctuation and grammar errors, it will provide a written list of specific recommendations and the book returns to Point 911. The WSBT review process should take less than ninety (90) days to

complete. Spelling, punctuation and grammar may be entrusted to the professional editor to resolve at Point 12.
Point 12 Point 13: Following approval by the WSBT, the book (including any cover language and/or artwork) is promptly transmitted within five (5) business days by the LCF Chairperson to the WSOWSOB Liaison, with a copy to the WSOB liaisonLead Trustee, to arrange for professional editing. Professional editing should take less than ninety (90) days to complete. All original WSO-approved release forms gathered from the book’s contributors should be transmitted to the WSO at this time and submitted in hard copy whenever possible. also be transmitted to the WSOB Liaison by the designee. As part of this process, the WSO should provide the professional editor with a copy of the Cocaine Anonymous World Service Office Publication Guidelines. The WSO should inform the professional editor on what our primary purpose is and its importance, as it should take precedence over content being grammatically correct. Care should be taken by the professional editor to ensure that the original meaning of the piece remains unchanged.
Point 13 Point 14: The professionally edited draft is returned as a red-lined document by the WSO WSOB Liaison to the LCF Chairperson within five (5) business days of receipt from the professional editor. The main LCF Committee will carefully review each of the editor’s revisions to ensure that they do not change the meaning of the original language.meaning has not been changed. The main LCF Committee also takes this opportunity to check for any missed spelling, grammatical or typographical errors and make sure that the Publication Guidelines are applied appropriately. This review should be completed within ninety (90) days of receipt. Any edits which are deemed to materially alter the meaning of If, as a result of professional editing, substantive changes are warranted, the piecemain LCF Committee may be rejected by LCF.refer the draft to the WSBT for review and approval. Point 14: Point 15: The book is delivered by the WSO to a professionalqualified book designer (professional or volunteer typesetter,), who will prepare the book for production. If LCF haspublication. The book designer is responsible for creating the overall visual and physical presentation of the book, including cover, interior layout, and typography. They take the raw text and cover art, if any, approved at Point 14 and create a book that is visually appealing, readable and fits within specific print or digital formats. If a cover language and/or art was not provided cover language and/or artwith the approved draft, the WSO shall be charged with completing these tasks

as part of the overall book design and publication process, subject to review and approval by the main LCF Committee and the WSBT. If the WSO wishes to make substantive changes to any cover elements provided by LCF, these changes must go back to both the main LCF Committee and the WSBT for review and approval. Point 15 Point 16: While the book is being designed, the LCF Chairperson and WSOB Liaison lead the formation of the edited draft in Point 13. an Ad-hoc Committee comprised of members of the WSOB, WSO staff, WSBT and LCF Committee selected based on their familiarity with the source material, proofreading skill, and ability to complete the project in an expeditious manner. The WSO may also enlist other volunteers to assist with the proofreading. The Ad-hoc Committee determines the communication process, file naming convention, tools to be used and meeting frequency. Once the book design is completed, an electronic proof is made available by the WSO to the Ad-hoc Committee. Extreme care should be taken to ensure that the text does not differ from the draft approved in Point 1314. In addition to proofreading for content, all formatting (including italics and bold fonts, as well as paragraphing) is double-checked. The WSO will serve as the intermediary between LCFthe Ad-hoc Committee and the third-party book designer or typesetter, relaying all necessary corrections and updated drafts as expeditiously as possible. The WSO may also enlist other volunteers to assist with the proofreadingThis process. will be repeated as many times as necessary. Once LCFthe Ad-hoc Committee has approved the proof, the book moves to Point 1617.
Point 16: The book is delivered by the WSO to the production company. Depending on the availability of proofs from the production company, one or more copies of the book are made available to an Ad-hoc committee comprised of members of the WSOB, WSO staff and/or LCF selected by the WSOB based on their familiarity with the source material, proofreading skill and ability to complete the project in an expeditious manner. Here again, extreme care should be taken to ensure that the text does not differ from the draft approved in Point 13. In addition to proofreading for content, all formatting (including italics and bold fonts, as well as paragraphing) is double-checked. The Ad-hoc committee shall prepare and submit a list of any necessary corrections within a reasonable time frame to be determined by the WSO.
Point 17: The WSO will then obtain and forward corrected proofs to LCF. This process will be repeated as many times as necessary. Once the piecebook is in its final, correct form, the WSO will proceed with publishing the book.its publication. The LCF Trustee’s signature indicating approval will also be required before publication.

H. MOTION 8: Pursuant to Point 4 of the Pamphlet Approval Process, motion to approve the concept to create a new piece of literature to help groups create their meeting formats.
The following motions are based on referrals received from members of the Fellowship, which LCF decided to bring to Conference so that we can start creating those new pieces of literature.

The Fellowship currently has 32 pamphlets. Could the LCF committee please look into reducing and consolidating the number of pamphlets? A lot of the pamphlets provide information that could be consolidated or removed from our service document offering. Reducing the number of pamphlets would provide an opportunity to more efficiently document the information to our fellowship and wider community. This effort would also significantly reduce the cost to meetings to stock and resupply their pamphlets.
I. MOTION 9: Pursuant to Point 4 of the C.A. Pamphlet Approval Process, motion to approve the concept of consolidating selected C.A. pamphlets to reduce the number currently available.

Dear Committee, I would like to draw your attention to a piece of literature recently produced by our Area in Wales. The booklet was developed with the aim of dispelling many of the myths surrounding service and, importantly, to encourage greater participation at all levels of service. At the time of writing, our Area was experiencing difficulty filling service positions, and participation in committees was low. Since distributing this booklet to all of our meetings, however, we have seen a remarkable turnaround: every service position has been filled, and our committees are now buzzing with energy and enthusiasm. Given this success, I would recommend that the Committee consider reviewing this material with a view to expanding the work that it be a book in excess of 50 pages and is used more widely. We believe it could serve as an inspiring resource for other Areas facing similar challenges, supporting broader engagement in service and strengthening the Fellowship as a whole.

I believe your first year of sobriety is the hardest to reach. It isn’t easy, and every day and every month is tough on all new members as they try to navigate through a new life of recovery. With all that being said I wanted to reach out and see if it was a possibility in the future to have key tags for every month of your first year. I know a key tag isn’t going to stop potential slips/relapses but if it could give new members something to look forward to every month and motivated them to put in the work on themselves and in the steps. Thank you for taking the time to hear my idea and opinion. As well as allowing me to be a part of this amazing fellowship.

Please per housekeeping check files for error on LGBTQ+ pamphlet title. The one up on ca.org is wrong. Think it must have been at the 2021 conference, that we passed a referral from May 2020. Conference agreed to change the pamphlet title, striking “is also” and changing to, as far as I recall, “C.A. For The LGBTQ+ Addict.” I remember being delegate at the time and working with the C.A. member who made the argument in her referral that “also” is actually othering queer addicts, thus doing the opposite of what’s intended. So we were quite surprised to see the old pamphlet back up on the website. Heard another addict say “this is very disappointing,” so in the spirit of traditions 3 and 2 it would be great

to see a quick correction in respect of our collective group conscience and the members who are affected.

Could you also look at the online versions (Kindle), as I believe the HFCs do not currently include meeting formats but the 12 Steps Companion Guide does? If included, those should be removed so that they match the printed versions.

13506986 – Individual Submission – Pre-conference: It was brought to my attention whilst hosting my home group that the Preamble along with other readings state that we are a Fellowship of Men & Women, I was asked if it could say “People” however it is not for me to say. The world is evolving and we are all inclusive, therefore we would like to propose that it’s read as _ We are a fellowship not stating, “Men and Women”.
15385318 – Individual Submission – Pre-conference: I would love to see a Cocaine Anonymous Medication leaflet available at meetings. In the last few weeks, I have used the AA medication leaflet to show fellows who have been unsure on what to do regarding taking prescribed medication.
Myself I take prescribed medication for MS. I only take as my doctor tells me. Recently a fellow from my home group was told he had relapsed as he was taking prescribed tablets. Thinking he had relapsed he left the meeting and relapsed on street

drugs. This of course is very dangerous for an unqualified fellow to be telling fellows, some will never make it back. The leaflet like AA needs to remind fellows they are not Dr’s and this is an outside issue. I hope CA can come up with a leaflet similar to AA

16244666 – Individual Submission – Pre-conference: I’m writing to suggest updating the C.A. preamble to use more inclusive language. Currently, the preamble refers to “men and women.” Since Alcoholics Anonymous has revised its preamble to say “people” instead, I believe C.A. should consider making the same change. I notice the asterisk on the preamble on the World Service website which advises it was adapted with permission of the A.A. Grapevine, Inc. Using inclusive language reflects our commitment to unity and helps ensure that all who seek recovery feel welcome.

16628893 – WSBT Submission – Pre-conference: WSBT Referral … Literature, Chips, and Formats … Book Approval Process Please investigate adding additional points to the C.A. Book Approval Process outlined in the Cocaine Anonymous World Service Literature, Chips, and Formats Committee Guidelines (pages 19 through 22) that will allow all new C.A. books to be reviewed by the C.A. Fellowship and/or the conference delegates prior to the annual C.A. World Service Conference.
The rationale for this request is based on the current process which excludes the C.A. Fellowship from participating in the development of C.A. books. C.A. books never come back to the conference after book concept approval, Point 3. Instead, the first time the fellowship has an opportunity to review new books is when they are published. The fellowship must purchase the books at this point in the process, having never been given the opportunity to review them.
The current C.A. Book Approval Process does not have a point or points that require books to be sent out to the fellowship for review and feedback. The current C.A. Pamphlet Approval Process has three points that require any new pamphlet be distributed to the delegates. The following is one suggested example of what could be used to include the fellowship in the LCF Book Approval Process:
Point 8 … The [pamphlet] BOOK is labeled “DRAFT” and distributed to the delegates by the WSO as a draft piece of literature with the legend: “This draft is pending WSC approval and professional editing. We solicit your feedback.” The draft should be accompanied by instructions regarding where, when, and how to submit feedback. For categorization

purposes, feedback should be limited to one of three options: (1) approve the draft as is; (2) refer the draft back to committee with specific comments; or (3) disapprove of the pamphlet project altogether.
Point 9 … LCF reviews Fellowship feedback. If LCF determines that there are either no changes or only minor revisions needed, it will bring a motion at the next WSC to approve the [pamphlet] BOOK. If significant changes are needed based upon the collective conscience of LCF, the piece returns to Point 6.
Point 10 … The WSC votes on the motion to approve the [pamphlet] Book. If the motion passes, the [pamphlet] Book moves to Point 11. If the motion fails, the [pamphlet] Book is considered referred back to LCF at Point 6 unless otherwise directed by the WSC. The Narcotic Anonymous fellowship uses a process in which any book material is circulated at least 150 days prior to the start of their World Service Conference. Here is an excerpt from the N.A. Fellowship Literature Development Process, dated September 2022.
For the last 20 years, each literature project has utilized the same basic process.
- The Fellowship is surveyed for input about the project itself.
- Source material is collected from members.
- A workgroup of members who review all the source material and the resulting drafts is formed.
- Drafts for Fellowship review and input are released.
- Drafts are revised based on input.
- An approval draft is published with the Conference Agenda Report 150 days before the World Service Conference.
It’s a process that allows members all around the world, regardless of literacy level or language spoken to contribute. In the case of the recently approved A Spiritual Principle A Day book, NA World Services received more than 1,000 pieces of input on the first four principles circulated. Much of it was handwritten in 55 workshops around the world. Even after participation waned, as happens in every literature project, there was a steady stream of source material. The workgroup took great pains to read everything submitted, identify common themes and colorful phrases, and weave together the strands of input to develop cohesive entries. They found the wisdom in every submission, and the result is a text that represents the broad Fellowship of NA. It’s truly by addicts, for addicts. The WSBT understands the process of creating books is a difficult thing to accomplish. Adding additional points may complicate the process for completing books; however, adding a process that encourages and attracts C.A. Fellowship participation in the development of C.A books will create the same ownership enthusiasm as the C.A. Pamphlet Approval Process.

While this is an exciting development, I wanted to share a thought for consideration. Since we already have a 12 Step Companion Guide, it may be more beneficial to focus efforts on developing a 12 Tradition Companion Guide instead. This would provide an opportunity to explore and expand our collective understanding of the Traditions, an area that could greatly benefit from deeper literature and practical guidance for members and groups alike. Alternatively, if new writings on the Traditions are already being developed, perhaps they could be incorporated into the existing 12 Step Companion Guide, creating a unified resource that discusses both the Steps and the Traditions together. This approach could streamline our resources while enhancing the accessibility of CA’s foundational principles for both personal recovery and group unity. Thank you for considering this suggestion.
12833171 – Individual submission – Pre-conference: Referral for the LCF Committee to bring a motion at the next WSC for approval of the concept of a new pocket-sized meditation book. Brief description: While A Quiet Peace is a fantastic and necessary piece of C.A. literature, printed copies can be cumbersome to carry around. The proposed concept of a “pocket- sized” meditation book would result in a finished work similar in size to Hazelden’s Twenty- Four Hours a day (3.35 x 0.7 x 5.7 in; 8.5 x 1.8 x 14.5 cm) or A.A.’s Daily Reflections (4 x 1.1 x 6 in; 10.16 x 2.8 x 15.24 cm). Submissions for the daily entries would be sought from C.A. members throughout the Fellowship. Potential entries could include members’

freestanding thoughts or perhaps their personal reflections on quoted material from existing WSC approved literature. These entries could possibly be accompanied by a meditation, prayer, or action for the day. The proposed book would be an additional tool of recovery for our members, add to CAWS literature offerings, and would be revenue positive for the Fellowship.
11715383 – Individual submission – Pre-conference: The concept I have is for a book with stories from members with long-term sobriety. Centered around challenging life events and how they stayed sober through those events. Divorce, Child Custody, Death, Loss of Employment, marital problems etc. Something that our members could use when they face similar experiences. The reason I suggest long time sobriety and it doesn’t have to be. Is that sometimes years into sobriety things happen that can really rock us spiritually and emotionally. I think it would be a useful tool to have for our members.

A subcommittee was formed, and has been working on the referral. The sub committee wrote motions to Cocaine Anonymous more gender neutral in all areas of print. The motions we wrote would impact LCF. So, we are referring the motions that we made, and including a copy of the original referral. The S&B committee asks that you consider the following motions as relates to the original attached referral. As a result, the newcomers are getting very sick or leaving C.A. Entirely and spreading the word in their local areas not to come to C.A. It would be really helpful for LCF to set out clear guidelines / suggestions on this for sponsorship & maybe for unity to do a workshop on it which I’ll suggest In a separate referral.

It comprises of issues regarding appropriate share backs for newcomers present in the room that has led to issues regarding personal conduct and bullying, harassment and threatening behaviour. It would be very helpful to have a statement or guidelines or a pamphlet regarding conduct in meetings or group consciences approved by CA that GSRs and other representatives can rely on to deal with such situations as they arise.

‘In The Light of Our Experience’ – 12&12 – Jason L.
The LCF Twelve Steps & Twelve Traditions book project, ‘In the Light of Our Experience’ has been progressing well over the past 12 months and we now have an enthusiastic group of members whittling away at the production of some language for the main LCF committee to review later this year.
We are working to create twenty-four essays that are of a length that can be read in 12×12 book study meetings and are based on the experience of our Fellowship and it’s members. We are producing a book that will read in what we hope will be a tone that represents the voice of C.A. This will be slightly different from previous books that utilise a composite of individual members’ voices. We have worked up a series of subject bullet points that each essay will address. We have also worked up a template for the essays to be loosely framed on. This starts with a quote and then breaks the essay into three stages of explanation, action, and outcome. If you like, what it is or was like, what happened, and what it is like now.
We have gone through most of our literature, including pamphlets. We are currently working on Recalling the Early Days of C.A. and picking out any relevant passages that may prove useful for inclusion. We are also working on shares and workshops from our World Service Conventions and Conferences. We are reviewing the minutes from World Service Board of Trustees meetings and also those of our World Service Office Board.
Much like the A.A. Twelve & Twelve we are looking for examples of challenges brought before our Fellowship and the resolutions that we found. We are ‘data mining’ for our experience and hoping to capture it to guide us as we grow.
We have started putting language together and are aiming to present our first essay to the main LCF Committee in November. This project has been a long time in the waiting, and we hope to be able to move it towards the finish line next year. If you would like to join our Subcommittee, please do reach out to me.
Hope, Faith and Courage Volume III – Denise R.
The HFCIII Committee welcomed a new chapter this year under a leadership of a new chairperson. One of the Committee’s first priorities was to review how it worked and establish clearer, more consistent processes for reviewing and selecting stories. The

Committee has developed a simple and uniform classification process that allows each submission to be reviewed fairly while recognising the wide range of backgrounds and recovery experiences within our Fellowship.
To date, the Committee has received 44 story submissions. While this is an encouraging start, there is a shared feeling that the Fellowship has many more stories waiting to share.
The Committee has therefore focused on making it easier and more inviting for members to contribute. That included creating a new bookmark to distribute at the 2026 World Service Convention and Conference, designing a new flyer, translating some material into multiple languages, strengthening outreach through social media, and simplifying the submission process so that sharing a story feels accessible to everyone.
Every recovery story has the potential to reach someone who still suffers. With that in mind, the Committee continues to review each submission carefully while looking for new ways to encourage participation from across the world. The more voices we hear, the more fully our literature can reflect the hope, diversity and message of recovery found throughout Cocaine Anonymous. If you have a story to share, the Committee would love to hear from you.

Glossary of Terms – Melanie R.G.
The Glossary of Terms project was undertaken by the Glossary of Terms Subcommittee of Cocaine Anonymous to support the growing need for accurate translation of C.A. literature worldwide. With a new Chairperson elected after recognizing that previous attempts at a glossary had not been fully documented, the newly formed Subcommittee set out to both complete a usable glossary and clearly describe its development process for future trusted servants. The scope was intentionally focused on terms found in meeting formats, standard readings, and pamphlets, excluding words used only in books or longer writings. The initial list of terms came from an unfinished 2013 project in the LCF files, was expanded through a fresh review of C.A. materials, and was supplemented by a list from the WSO Director of Operations.
To create a consistent and useful reference, the Subcommittee designed a structured format, with separate columns for: term number, term or phrase, standard dictionary definition, C.A.-specific definition, and optional clarifying notes. Standard definitions were drawn primarily from established dictionaries and other 12 step glossaries. As the work progressed, AI tools (including ChatGPT and Grok) proved increasingly helpful for locating terms in C.A. literature and drafting initial definitions, using a standard prompt focused on C.A. context. Every entry was then carefully reviewed, discussed, and revised

by the Subcommittee until a group conscience was reached, with a second full pass to ensure cohesion and consistency.
The finished document was submitted to the World Service Office (WSO) and the Translation Committee in early May 2026, when they approved it and put it in use immediately. As a living document, the Glossary is expected to evolve over time with feedback, new translations, and emerging needs within Cocaine Anonymous.
The Power of PI – Susan B.
This project started a couple of years ago, when the PI Committee sent a draft to LCF for review. Since then, the piece has been reviewed, updated and edited by a small Subcommittee, getting it to a place where both LCF and PI Committees were happy with the final version.
Earlier this year, The Power of PI was published, bringing another long-running collaborative project to completion and providing the Fellowship with a new resource to support Public Information service.
‘The Twelve Traditions and Twelve Concepts with Illustrations’ – Jay S.
LCF Officers are currently working with the Subcommittee to establish a clearer timeline for the completion of the remaining drafts. We look forward to providing a more detailed progress update as this work continues.
Outreach and Engagement Subcommittee – Nadz L.
The Outreach and Engagement Subcommittee (formerly known as NewsGram) was reformed this year and focused its initial efforts on developing the next NewsGram article.
The subcommittee agreed to produce a more comprehensive article, drawing on existing C.A. literature and pamphlets to help members explore the topic through the Fellowship’s shared experience.
The subcommittee also completed an updated Hope, Faith & Courage III flyer and designed a new bookmark highlighting two ways members can get involved: joining the Literature, Chips and Formats Committee and submitting stories for Hope, Faith & Courage III. These bookmarks will be available at Conference and, together with the flyer, aim to raise awareness of the project and encourage greater participation from across the Fellowship.
Looking ahead, the Subcommittee will continue exploring additional ways of engaging the wider Fellowship through initiatives such as flyers, workshops, and other communication opportunities.

I want to thank all the Subcommittee Chairpersons who have worked, and continue to work, tirelessly to progress the creation of our literature.
A special thank you goes to our LCF Officers, Melanie R.G. (Vice-Chairperson) and Larissa O. (Secretary), for the conversations after nearly every monthly meeting, for helping prepare and submit meeting agendas and minutes, for their guidance whenever
