C.A. WORLD SERVICE CONFERENCE 2026 WORLD SERVICE OFFICE BOARD REPORT

INTRODUCTION AND COMMENTS:

As the conclusion of my first term as the WSOB Chair takes place at Conference, it seems crazy that so much has been accomplished by the WSOB and WSO in just two years. And yet, with everything that changes, so much of it stays the same. I’m so proud of the WSOB and WSO in our commitment to serve this fellowship.

As the year progressed with the implementation of more eﬃcient procedures, policies and new/upgraded plaƞorms for delivery, we have reduced the staﬃng requirements and saved the fellowship thousands of dollars in the process.

Tai and Dawn continue to be rock stars in their roles of Director of Operations and Assistant Manager. Both are fantastic assets to the successful delivery of our message of recovery to our fellowship. Tai runs an eﬃcient tight ship, maintaining deadlines, spreadsheets for accountability and a calendar that keeps us all on our toes. Dawn consistently brings the administrative eﬀort on point each and every day, making sure that the wheels of this bus keep rolling. While each of them are carrying out the responsibilities of their position, they always drop what they’re doing and engage with our fellowship anytime someone from C.A. calls or drops by – always keeping the members of our fellowship front and center to their eﬀorts. Removing the full time CSR position and the full time Warehouse position proved to be a little too much strain on our productivity. A decision was made to bring on a part time Warehouse

role and Robert has done a great job assisting us in the back with the production of pamphlets, inventory management and shipping needs.

These staﬀ members are truly the unheralded workers behind the scenes of your new meeting, your chips and literature, the financial management of your fellowship, etc. Unfortunately, your interaction with them may only be on the rare occasion when a problem arises or actually no interaction with them at all. In either case, be certain that they are there and if you get an occasion to thank them for their eﬀorts, please don’t miss the opportunity to do so.

The WSOB welcomed two new board members into the fold. Both Russell and Kalob came on the board and took no time to hit full speed. As both were very active and knowledgeable regarding our eﬀorts in past roles at Conference, it was a relatively smooth transition into these roles. Russell was quickly moved into the Treasurer’s position with Jonathan moving on to the WSBT and leaving that position to be filled. Kalob dove right in to assisting with the development of our meeting finder app, the website, the super-secret Freedom Fund, etc.

We’re fortunate to have such hard working and devoted new members to the WSOB!

The WSOB’s composition is always in ﬂux and constantly changing. This year is no exception. At the conclusion of the 2026 C.A. World Service Conference, we will have three open positions on the WSOB. Wesley served as a Director at Large and was not ratified in July and chose to step down. He was instrumental in the Public Information eﬀorts and NewsGram delivery throughout the year. Kim gave the WSOB her decision in July to also step down at the completion of the Conference. She served as the Secretary of the WSOB and was successfully in charge of sweeping up behind us in our on-line business and monthly meetings. Jason also gave notice to the WSOB in July that upon the completion of his term as a Director at Large, he was not putting himself forward for another term at the end of this year’s Conference. He was inﬂuential in bringing about the new website and plaƞorms that we use in the oﬃce and as a fellowship. I want to personally thank all three of these C.A. soldiers for their unheralded service to the fellowship of C.A.

There is always a chance that the board’s composition could potentially change some more as there are current board members participating in the TEC process to potentially be chosen to be trustees as well. What an exciting time to be on the WSOB. As our positions are always in some sort of rotation or ﬂux, if you’ve ever considered doing your service as a World Service Oﬃce Board member, now is an incredible time to join us!

The NewsGram has had a makeover! With some newly adopted internal guidelines for the NewsGram, the WSOB and WSO are excited about its future. Kenny had been the NewsGram Editor for years and stepped down in May. We thank him for keeping the ball rolling for all those years bringing the NewsGram to our fellowship. We are currently asking the fellowship

for resumes from anyone interested in being the new NewsGram Editor. Larissa has volunteered to assist us as the Interim Editor until the process of selection is complete. She has done a great job bringing us the new look. Maybe even keep an eye out for some top-secret announcements at this year’s Conference.

Speaking of top-secret announcements, the WSOB and WSO are excited to roll out our new website. A brand-new look, bringing a fresh upgrade to the site and its message of hope to our C.A. community. In the process of this roll out, a decision was made to move our hosting and website maintenance in a diﬀerent direction. We want to thank Cameron for years of successful commitment and excellence in his role as our webhost and webmaster. We wouldn’t be where we are today without his eﬀorts.

In reviewing the committee’s work over the last year, here are some of the highlights:

I continue to be actively present at the oﬃce. Spending Wednesday afternoons at the WSO, Tai and I are disciplined in tracking the development and solutions to our eﬀorts every week.
Communication and activity with our new treasurer, Russell has been on point and we appreciate his willingness to make the huge time change a non-factor in our eﬀorts.
Tai and I also meet every two weeks for a zoom call with the WST and WSOT. These meetings have been very productive in keeping the WSBT informed of how the WSOB is continuing our success – being responsible to the WSBT as to our eﬀorts taking direction from the Conference.
The WSBT Chair and I continue to communicate every couple of weeks and keep each other informed as to the activity level of the boards.
Communication with the WSOB on the WhatsApp is active and we move a ton of business on line to keep things moving in our support of the various conventions, etc.
Again, Tai continues to kill the responsibilities and her dedication is contagious. I truly believe that the WSOB and WSO is on a very positive path.

As CA continues to grow internationally, many online meetings are beginning to explore AI- based translation tools such as Zoom AI Translation. At present, it is unclear whether CAWS has any guidance, recommendations, or best practices regarding the use of AI translation in CA meetings. This referral requests clarification and discussion regarding:

Accuracy of the CA message when translated by AI tools.
Potential anonymity and confidentiality concerns.
Responsibility and accountability for translated content.
Benefits and risks for international accessibility and participation.

The purpose of this referral is not to advocate for or against AI translation, but to seek guidance that may help groups, districts, areas, and international meetings make informed decisions consistent with CA’s Traditions and Concepts.

I request the WSO to look into developing kits for struggling meetings. While we currently provide starter kits for new meetings, we do not seem to have a program for established Meetings, Groups, Districts, or Areas that may be struggling financially to help keep their materials available at the top of the triangle. These kits could include pamphlets, chips
(younger values along with years and multiple years), and maybe even books. Both World Level Funds could be used to provide this as well as individual members could be allowed to “anonymously donate” these help kits so they are available when needed. Please look into this concept for further development.

District Flexibility in the Provision of Recovery Milestone Items. Recovery milestone items, such as keyrings, are an important part of celebrating recovery and carrying the message of hope within Cocaine Anonymous. For many members, they represent significant milestones and serve as a tangible reminder of the progress made in recovery.

Concerns regarding the quality, durability, consistency and availability of recovery milestone items have been raised within the Fellowship and continue to be discussed through service channels. These concerns have included reports of manufacturing defects, issues with clasps and fiƫngs, inconsistencies in supplied items, replacement stock requirements, postage costs and delays in obtaining suitable replacements.

These challenges can result in additional costs, postage expenses, replacement requests and
administrative burdens for trusted servants, whilst also aﬀecting the timely recognition of members’ recovery milestones. Whilst eﬀorts have been made to address these concerns, challenges remain and continue to impact members, groups and Districts across the Fellowship. This referral requests that the World Service Conference review whether Districts should have greater ﬂexibility regarding the sourcing and provision of recovery milestone items where there are ongoing concerns around quality, availability and service delivery.

As Districts continue to grow in size and responsibility, this review could consider whether a process should exist for Districts of suﬃcient size and capacity to apply for alternative approved sourcing arrangements whilst maintaining Fellowship unity, accountability, trademark protection and service structure integrity.

The intent of this referral is not to change the relationship between World Service, Areas and Districts, nor to bypass existing service structures. Rather, it is to explore whether the current structure provides sufficient ﬂexibility for Districts to meet the needs of the members they serve. Any such ﬂexibility would be an option available to Districts rather than a requirement.

This referral is submitted in the spirit of continuous improvement and in support of our primary purpose of carrying the message to the addict who still suffers.

I was wondering if the process of getting all CA approved literature into an audiobook form has been started or explored.

Thank you for the referral. At this time, there are no plans to produce literature beyond print and e-book versions partly due to costs, such as paying for professional readers and the cost of
translations. The WSO is always open to considering new formats for the future and will keep this suggestion in mind for future planning.

While reviewing the pamphlets on ca.org, I noticed that the current layout could benefit from a more visually appealing design. I’d like to suggest updating the presentation, like the approach used by CMA (link attached for reference). Specifically, replacing the plain text pages with pamphlet images would create a more engaging and user-friendly experience. With the website being updated I believe this would be an ideal time to look at making this change.

Additionally, I recommend standardizing the pamphlets in black and white. A clean, minimal design not only enhances readability but would also reduce printing costs for Areas —
particularly once Print on Demand is implemented.

Please note that the legal name of the Fellowship is Cocaine Anonymous World Services (CAWS). There is no such organization as Cocaine Anonymous World Services, Inc. (CAWS, Inc.) and any mention of that organization is incorrect. The World Service Board of Trustees is asking all World Service Conference Committees to review any and all Conference Approved Documents (World Service Manual, Committee Guidelines, etc.) and change any erroneous naming convention of Cocaine Anonymous World Services, Inc; CAWS, Inc., or anything other than Cocaine Anonymous World Services (CAWS) to the correct nomenclature.

I would like to see a change in how frequent the WSOB minutes are sent out. Currently they are sent out quarterly in the delegate mailings. As a member who has been attending the WSOB Monthly meetings, I would like to ask that the minutes be posted in Box monthly, aŌer they are approved. This would allow members who are attending WSOB
meetings that aren’t on the Board a little more insight as to authority and oversight of the Board and give a better idea of what the board members do monthly for our fellowship.

One of the true beautiful things about Cocaine Anonymous is the opportunity to bring our diﬀerences as individuals as to our belief about how C.A. spreads its message around the world. An in a world that can hardly keep from destroying itself, we seem to thrive when we can focus on the “principles over personalities”. As I can routinely disagree with the manner that our members, delegates and oﬃcers go about their business, I am never surprised at the power of God in our collective eﬀorts for Cocaine Anonymous. We are truly in great hands.

Randy G – We need to work with Seattle. And will work with Scotland also. To ensure it can be applied.
