OPENING REPORT
C.A. WORLD SERVICE CONFERENCE 2021
ARCHIVE REPORT
INTRODUCTION AND OPENING COMMENTS:
mnemnocide: ne-Mo-side — the deliberate destruction of records and documents — the destruction of memory. The destruction of archives and records (intentional or unintentional) is a destruction of the unseen, not of flesh and blood but that of the soul of a people. – Patricia Sleeman “Cultural Genocide”
We, as a World Service Archive Committee, along with C.A. Districts and Areas Archivists have done much to collect and preserve C.A.’s history. C.A. is an expanding global concern and our responsibility to preserve and protect C.A.’s legacy leaves us with still much to do.
The Archives of Cocaine Anonymous holds valuable documentation about our actions and accomplishments.
The C.A. Archives are intrinsic to our collective memory which establishes and maintains our group identity as a Cocaine Anonymous fellowship.
The C.A. World Service Archive Committee collects, preserves, catalogs and re-presents the historical record of C.A.’s World activities. Our archives can tell us more about our membership, our committees, our procedures and most importantly how we got from way back when to where we are now, which can have a tremendous bearing on where C.A. headed. Furthermore, our C.A. Archive can tell us stories and increases our sense of C.A. identity and helps us to understand of our fellowship, both locally and globally. This dynamic not only focuses our C.A. identity, it also facilitates C.A. Unity.

SUMMARY OF COMMITTEE BUSINESS:
From Post Conference 2019 to 2021, the Archive Committee has been actively working on a number of objectives including: Maintaining an up-to-date backup of C.A. Digital Archive Files; Conducting monthly Archive Committee Service meetings whereby C.A. Area Archive Chairs and archivists can meet and greet and discuss challenges, accomplishments, show & tell and Q. & A.; Compiled a database of previous and current C.A. Area & District Archive Chairs and Archivists from around the world; Created a chronological time-line of C.A. significant milestones (https://museum.ca.org/c-a-historical-chronology/); Submitting quarterly archiving articles to the Newsgram; Held a Virtual World Archive Summit (2020-08-23); Continued to build the C.A. Virtual Museums with images of C.A. objects from around the world—there are currently over 1000 objects displayed in the virtual museum.; and lastly prepared highlights of Ray Grossa’s service to C.A. as recorded in the C.A. REFERRALS UPDATE
REFERRALS STILL IN COMMITTEE:
Referral ARCH 2021-01: From the WSBT to Archives: Please would you consider the adoption of the ‘Uniform File Naming Convention Guidelines’ that were developed with your assistance through the WSBT Long Term Planning Sub-committee. We hope that this document may form part of your committee guidelines and may also be available for guidance as a world website download.
RESPONSE: We all amend the Conference approved “WSC Archives Committee Guidelines” and the “Archiving Guidelines for Areas and Districts” and submit it as an SR14 for the 2022 Conference.
Referral: Archives 2019-01: From Dawn M. CAUK – Please can a record be created of all conference motions passed and adopted by WS conference committee and WSC year? The purpose of which would be to present the history of changes by conf committee in a user friendly format rather than having to search WSC minutes. I wonder if such a project would flow out of the work that archives are currently doing to create a searchable database of WSC minutes. I appreciate that this referral may also need to be considered by the WSC Conference Committee.
RESPONSE: This referral is complete (https:docs.ca.org) where we now have a complete record of all Conference minutes from inception to present day. However, our Committee continues to build on this platform with the addition of an almost complete record of all WSOB minutes and WSBT minutes from inception to present day.
Referral Number: ARCH 2016-2. Please create an online archive of World Service Convention shares and workshops accessible through the world website for listening and download.
RESPONSE: We are continuing to build an archive of all C.A. World Convention Speakers and Workshop Facilitators since 1985 to present day. Much of this work requires digitalizing old cassette recording to mp3 formats.
SUMMARY OF SR14 MATERIALS:
RESPONSE: NONE.
REFERRALS THAT WERE FORWARDED TO OTHER COMMITTEES:
RESPONSE: NONE.
CLOSED REFERRALS:
Referral Number: Unity/Arch 2016-1. That the Unity committee compile a file of “Celebrate Around the World” logos (from the first CATW event to the present) and CAWS Conference themes for use by the Archive Committee.
RESPONSE: We now have a complete set of DATW and CATW logos digitalized for use by the fellowship.
