C.A. WORLD SERVICE CONFERENCE 2010
H & I COMMITTEE REPORT
INTRODUCTION AND OPENING COMMENTS
Dathan Martin
The committee welcomed a wonderful new group of members this year. Bobby Coyer, Megan Kenney, Vonya Quarles, Pearl Braboy and Erica Decker did a wonderful job of making them feel at home as we commenced to pass it on. I hope you all get to take a look at the map in the hall that Vonya Quarles and Megan Kenney, and with the help of the Trustees worked tirelessly to put it together for us. The map shows the growth of H&I throughout the globe. Again we had the opportunity of carrying the message to three H&I panel meetings. We also have Jennifer Searl presenting the banner. Erica Decker will be doing an overview of the C.A. Lifeline Draft.
Jennifer Searl – Will now present the banner. Thank you for all who participated. We would like to present this banner to our new Area, Ireland. Since they are not represented here today, we would like to present to Nicholas Lynn to give to the members in Ireland. Hopefully this will help light some fires for H&I in Ireland and all over Europe.
Nicholas Lynn: I will probably give this to the new Trustee, Russell Sedman, but if he would like me to go with him to Ireland to present it, I would gladly do that. Erica – Will now present the C.A. Lifeline Draft. The CA Lifeline is service committee currently in place in Phoenix district to help folks transition from

treatment to the meeting rooms. We present to treatment center an opportunity to introduce the program to the patients. We have an organized list of the patients and members who help the patient’s transition. It has been immensely successful. We will be working on the guidelines on a World level and hopefully get there in there soon.
Kelli Williams – Outreach – First we are here to support our primary purpose to carry the message to the suffering addict. We will let the H&I Areas of C.A. as a whole become aware of the proposed C.A. Lifeline. We want to open communication throughout the H&I Areas. Getting in contact with all H&I Committees and letting them know we are here to assist them in any way we can.
Nicci Daley – H&I Guidelines – Over the next year the H&I Guidelines Sub-Committee will be reviewing the H&I Guidelines, the C.A. Lifeline Guidelines draft and all incoming referrals.
Bobby Coyer – Correctional Referrals
The purpose of Correctional Referrals Sub-committee will be to contact CAWSO on a monthly basis to have all inmate or facility referrals sent to our sub-committee. We will contact the proper Area H&I Chair to contact that inmate or facility. We will follow-up to make sure contact has been made with the inmate.
Sean Dziegelewski – Creative Writing
Creative Writing is bringing in the message of recovery and sharing it with the world. We want your stories, cartoons, and jokes for the H&I corner of the NewsGram. Please send all submissions to World Service Center in care of H&I.

- #6686 – That the H & I Committee add to it’s Guidelines, where appropriate, “At all times the wishes of the facilities we serve should be given priority consideration and compliance.” (Refer to Tradition 6 in the guidelines)
a. In Working within the Traditions, page 2, of the H&I Guidelines, please refer to Tradition Six, which states, – “A C.A. group ought never endorse, finance, or lend the C.A. name to any related facility or outside enterprise lest problems of money, property and

prestige divert us from our primary purpose.” As this Tradition clearly states, we do not endorse any facilities with the C.A. name. However, as guests we cooperate with the facility and follow their policies and guidelines.
b. Please refer to page 12 of the H&I Guidelines, under General Information of the H&I Guidelines, which states, “Because we go into so many different types of facilities, there is a lot of red tape, and many rules and regulations involved. Remember that you represent Cocaine Anonymous and dress appropriately. Because we are invited guests in these facilities, it is important that as representatives of Cocaine Anonymous, we follow all the rules, regulations and policies of the institution we have been invited into:”
c. Also refer to item #4 on page 12, under General Information of the H&I Guidelines, which states, “The meeting chairperson will be responsible for advising speakers in advance regarding policies of the institution and the H&I Committee.”
- #6416 – This referral is a request that the H&I Committee take a group inventory of itself in the spirit of assessing how well the committee helps the Conference to fulfill its purpose and to identify what action(s) the committee could take to improve the Committee’s ability to better help the Conference fulfill its purpose.
Should the H&I Committee opt to take no action on this referral either at the 2010 Conference or as a post-Conference activity throughout the 2010 / 2011 year, please be kind enough to cite the H&I Committee’s reason(s) for not undertaking such action in the H&I Committee’s Closing Report.

a. The H&I committee has reviewed and discussed referral #6416. After discussion it was decided that such a practice will help to enhance our efforts, effectiveness and benefits to CAWS and to the membership as a whole. Thank you for this referral – we have done a group inventory and plan to continue this practice. For further details please refer to our closing report for work done by the Committee at the conference and throughout the year.
- #6431 – Can you add to the Guidelines that people doing C.A. H&I should attend at least one C.A. meeting a week or month. How can a person carry the C.A. message when they don’t go to C.A. meetings.
a. After much discussion, we are unable to revise our Guidelines as suggested in your referral. After reviewing Working Within the Traditions, page 2., of the H&I Guidelines, “Tradition Two, which reminds us that ‘For our group purpose, there is but one ultimate authority – a loving God as He may express Himself in our group conscience. Our leaders are but trusted servants; they do not govern.’ It is our experience that when a meeting is ‘higher powered’ as opposed to ‘self-willed’ it is much more effective.”
b. Also refer to General Information, page 12 of the H&I Guidelines, item #1 which states: “A C.A. H&I meeting conducted under this committee should at all times be under the direct supervision of a member of the H&I Committee.”

CLOSING COMMENTS
I received a lot of help and support throughout the year. I learned a lot of lessons via mistakes. But through the help of the best committee members in the fellowship we have learned and grown. The Trustees we cannot thank you enough, for their support. The H&I committee is a sharp place to kick it. I thank all members past and present and the fellowship as a whole. We have a few things we will be working on though out the year and looking forward to presentation them next year. I am grateful for this honor and privilege to be of service.
