C.A. WORLD SERVICE CONFERENCE 2010
Public Information Committee REPORT
INTRODUCTION AND OPENING COMMENTS
The CAWSPI Committee has been blessed with able and willing members who brought passion, enthusiasm and a wide spectrum of skills. It was a pleasure to see new Delegates attracted to our committee and we thank them for their participation.
Both the Census/ Survey committee and the handbook committee have concluded the housekeeping to include the new World Service Office Address on the forms and in the P.I. Handbook.

COMMITTEE WORK THAT RESULTED IN MOTIONS
PI committee looked at multiple submissions of art work resulting in the following motions.
MOTION: To approve the hourglass graphic arts material from Montreal. (see attached sheet) Second.
Kevin Murphy: Would you like to speak to the motion?
Tim Minchin: Not at this time.
Brian Tenenbaum: All I see is a dark page.
Bryan Seid: We don’t get a good vision. Is there anything you can explain to me about what it is?
Gerald Collard: If we had the electronic picture, it’s an hour-glass, you’re running out of time and running out of power and it’s time to call us.
Kellie Federici: At first I didn’t like it but now I like it. Anything that makes me have a feeling or makes me look twice is effective. If it makes you look twice. Kevin Murphy: Looks like about a quarter gram.
Susan Bredau: As we have been down this road before from Montreal, it is my recollection that all images that were going to be considered at the conference needed to be supplied to the committee prior to the conference. I was wondering if the images were submitted in accordance with that? Kevin Murphy: Are you making a point of order?
Susan Bredau: Yes.
Kevin Murphy: There is no standing rule to that effect.
Susan Doch: I would love to love it, but I’m speaking against it because the first thing I thought of was I need more.
Susan Bredau: The last time there was an image owned by the Quebec area it cost the WSO over $1,000. Do we own the image? Gerald Collard: Yes, we have a waiver.

Valerie Cote: I’m in favor of the motion. It’s always the story of the empty back.
There is not a bottom because it disappears.
Kevin Murphy: I appreciate the enthusiasm, let’s limit the outbursts.
Rose Jones: I speak in favor of the motion. It gave me the feeling of many years ago when I asked for help.
Earnest Martin: I speak in favor of the motion. It’s very transferable for languages. Time is running out. Great job.

MOTION: For the approved artwork to first be used as a tool in section 5 of the PI handbook and forward the JPEG image to WSO to be used as they see fit. (i.e. for posters or T-Shirts). Second.
Kevin Murphy: Would you like to speak to your motion?
Sara Baurer: Not at this time.
Wayne Staples: What form would you be using this in the handbook?
Sara Baurer: However they see fit.

REFERRALS THAT RESULTED IN MOTIONS
Referral # 6714
To combine both the census and survey form and simplify or limit the questions to include “Has your life gotten better as a result of C.A.?” This new form to be made available on line in addition to its paper form.
- MOTION: To approve the simplified and updated version of the 2011 membership survey form, to be distributed to the fellowship through delegates and downloadable through the PI section of the CA.ORG website. (see attached sheet).

Julie Hampson: Not at this time.
Kellie Federici: Friendly amendment: Under item 7 you have things listed, can you add an “other” box?
Julie Hampson: Noted and accepted.
Kevin Murphy: “Other” will be added to boxes.
Marc Harvey: Friendly Amendment: Can you add an example of what “other” is?
Russell Sedman: It got so long. We tried to compress the results so it’s usable. We were going to other. Please write your suggestion on the bottom of the form.
Kevin Murphy: Is that a no?
Russell Sedman: No.
Julie Schwindeman: Friendly Amendment: Question 6, I’m disabled, I would like to see that category instead of unemployed or other. Debbie Lerlan: Yes, noted.
Kevin Murphy: Number 6 we have agreed to add disabled under employment.
Ian Young: Friendly Amendment: Section 2, what is your primary language, can you add Swedish as it’s a large emerging area? Debbie Lerlan: Yes, noted and accepted.
Kevin Murphy: The chair is not going to entertain too many more of these.

The Fact File Sub-Committee will be working throughout the year on the design and development of new online format of the membership survey. (See

PowerPoint/attached sheet) This format will provide easier access to the fellowship and a more efficient way to populate the data.
In discussion of referral #6714 we concluded it may prove more efficient to combine the survey and Fact File Sub-Committee of CAWS PI into a new sub-committee to be called Fact File Sub Committee.
The Media Sub Committee over the past year has researched production companies to create the international public service announcement. During that time period, we received 4 bids from potential companies and through conference calls and work here at this conference, we determined which production house would be best suited to fit our needs.
The CAWSPI Committee has agreed unanimously on a production company. We have made our recommendation to the WSBT as part of the 5th step in the 8 point process of getting a PSA made and out to the fellowship.

That the P.I. Committee obtain from the WSO an excel spreadsheet of all C.A. meetings for posting on Intheroom.com. (It is understood that our corporate C.A. logo may not appear, but only the text Cocaine Anonymous.)
Referral # 6681- Referred to WSBT
Our Regional office is located on a very busy street, we have been using the street windows to advertise for C.A. (logo, helpline numbers, etc.) But we have encountered resistance amongst members about anonymity, promotion and so forth… Do we have a guideline on that matter?

Referral # 6390
That the P.I. Committee adopt this flier as a P.I. tool to be included in the P.I. Handbook and accessible on the P.I. page @ ca.org, in order to raise awareness of the online meetings.
We the handbook committee have chosen to take no action on referral #6390.. The online service area is an area unto itself and has been working on a flyer for the online meetings. While we recognize the good intentions behind the submitted flyer, we feel at this time that we should allow the O.S.A. the opportunity to submit their flyer with due process as they have stated their intention is to do so.

Whilst we as a committee understand and agree that inventory is of course an essential process beneficial to us as individuals and as a collective, we feel that

at this conference our time resources can best be used working on new referrals and our ongoing PI projects. CAWSPI trusts that our individual members are active in their own personal recovery program, and continue to take their own personal inventory, we strive to work lovingly together and rely upon a loving god to guide us through business, and reach healthy conclusions through the process of group conscience. We will however continue to consider the group inventory suggestion and may in the near future carry out such an inventory. We would like to thank the maker of this referral and recognize the spirit in which it was written.

CLOSING COMMENTS
We have grown as individuals as a result of this conference experience…
As a fellowship our primary purpose is to carry the message to the addict that still suffers, the simple message that C.A. exists and that recovery is possible must be carried, without the newcomers we have no longevity as a fellowship….let’s try and help our local groups/districts/areas with their PI endeavors, buy a copy of HFC2 and donate it to your local library, ask your doctor if you could leave some local meeting schedules at his reception, business cards in pharmacies, booths at health fairs….
To believe that all drug addicts in need of Cocaine Anonymous will find themselves in a H&I meeting is delusional and narrow minded, we therefore have a responsibility to get active with grass roots activities that raise awareness on C.A. and how to access us. To wait for a suffering addict to find themselves in a detox centre, treatment facility or prison before we make our approach is to pass

a death sentence on the many that may not be so fortunate as to find themselves in such a facility.
CAWSPI have worked hard to allow conference approved PI tools to be made available to our fellowship. We ask every member on this floor to consider contacting their local PI committee and offer to puts up 1 poster in their local community.

Kevin Murphy: Any questions for PI committee? Line up behind the microphone. Susan Bredau: I noted designation of the area was missing on the mock-up and paper version. Also space out the paper version so it’s easier to write on. It will be easier for you.
Russell Sedman: Thank you for your suggestions. We are continuing to look at this and appreciate your feedback.
Nicholas Lynn: I would like to ask about the online survey. When will it be available? Can members still fill out on paper.
Bill Hood: We will not phase out the paper version. We will coordinate with the office to get this in place. We would like to use this as a tool.
Wesley Blount: Referral 6685 to IT, this is a reminder to everyone IT does not administer the website, the office does.
Kevin Murphy: Was that a question?
Russell Sedman: We believe the intent was good and would be wonderful, we hit the challenge of how to keep it alive. We hope the IT committee can look at it and keep it alive.

Carl Warlick: Every year we send some to drug court and when they get back they have a lot of material, would it be feasible for PI to take those referrals and do the follow-ups?
Russell Sedman: I think it would be feasible and if we could assist the office to put together packets and I think it’s a wonderful suggestion.
Elizabeth Wise: Yea! Online survey is awesome. Is there a system in place beyond the honor system so people won’t fill them out? Bill Hood: We would rely on our spiritual principles.
Wesley Blount: Can you put info about CA websites?
Bill Hood: That’s a very good question we will consider it.
Peter Olsen: Do we pick the box world?
Kevin Murphy: I would consider anyone in this room serving as a delegate working on the world service level.
