Tony D.: We will be starting in 2 minutes. Alright let’s get started. Today is Friday, September 2, 2011 at 2:30 pm and I would like to open this session with a moment of silence followed by the Serenity Prayer. This afternoon I have asked Teresa N. to read “Reaching Out.” A couple of quick of announcements. Once we get started with reports, and many of you have not turned in your sticks. Please get to those to the Secretaries as soon as possible along with 4 copies.
Roll Call: 146 votes and the quorum is 98.
Couple of announcements: There has been notification of intent to rescind motion previously passed regarding resumes for Trustees. First up is Unity.

INTRODUCTION AND OPENING COMMENTS
Opening Comments;
I want to thank Cocaine Anonymous the fellowship I crave for the honor of allowing me to be of service at this level. I never would have dreamed it possible. I want to thank the few groups who actually took the time out to fill in and send of the Unity Survey “Retaining the Newcomer”. The results of this survey will follow a little later. We had no response for artwork for CATW this year and we as a committee will be pushing you guys and girls hard in the coming months for submissions for 2013 CATW artwork with the theme “Splash of Sobriety” We had three first year delegates join us this year and two of them jumped right in and took on sub-committee chair positions, how cool is that? I want to thank our speakers at the luncheon today not just for speaking but for the years of continuous service to our fellowship. Did you all enjoy the lunch? Well let’s thanks Darwin and his team for cookin’ it up! I want to thank all the people who

took time out to participate in the 12 step meetings. Thank you. Our committee has worked hard this conference we have completed lots of housekeeping in the guidelines as well as adding some subcommittee chairs duties and qualifications, we feel we have achieved a lot so let me introduce the team:

COMMITTEE WORK THAT RESULTED IN MOTIONS Motion to increase the Unity budget from $330 to $1330. Second. Tony D.: Would you like to speak to your motion?
Paul M.: Speak in favor to the motion. FYI. Up to 2008 the Unity budget was $900. The Unity committee never used a dime of that budget, so it was reduced in 2009 to $330. We never used a single cent of that budget either!
NOW we are asking that you consider increasing our budget, for one year only, for the 2011-2012 to $1330. We have 3 new members first year delegate this year who cannot commit to the chair position. We have older members that don’t have any computer access. I have put out on the conference floor and on our Unity Link that we need a new chair and no one has come forward. If I am allowed to continue as Unity Chair for the coming year, I will be able to assist the 2012 convention in showcasing the Speed Service workshop. I am sure this will help make 2012 unity event one not to be missed. New Unity budget for Non-Delegate Chair Unity

Suggested Basic Format for Speed Service Workshop
- Pick from the list of topics the Workshop will be on.
The Steps
The Traditions.
The Concepts
Group level Service: Secretary. GSR. Tea Person. Treasurer. Literature. Unity.
District level Service Chair. Secretary. GSR. DSR Plus standing-committees.
Area Level Service: DSR. Chair. Secretary. Plus standing-committees.
World Level Service: Delegate Conference Charter Plus standing-committees.
- Decide on two questions relative to each category in the topic chosen.

- Set up six tables…number optional here! At each table sits a person with experience in the topic and category. They are going to share their experience on the topic making sure they include the answers to the two questions as part of their talk. So table one can be Traditions 1 and 2. Table two traditions 3 and 4…and so on.
- Divide the attendees into 6 groups….each group must decide on a name for itself. These groups shall stay together until after the quiz at the end. NOTE: You must have the same number of groups as there are tables.
- So each group sits and listens at a table for 10 minutes, taking notes if they wish. After 10 minutes the groups rotate to the next table.
- After 3 tables take a 30-minute break for refreshments. Then continue through the remaining 3 tables.
- After all 6 tables have been visited by the groups, Take a break for fellowship and refreshments then: The quiz begins. 24 questions , 2 points per question.
- Most points at the end wins. Always have 2 Question for the end in case of a tie.
- Suggested prize a box of chocolate and a cup for the winning Team

Michael H.: Who is going to be doing this workshop at the World Service Convention?
Paul M.: At the 2012 convention, this is a suggested format. We were just trying to put some structure in place. The Unity Committee will help but if they don’t need our help if the Convention Committee’s would prefer not to handle the Unity Event, we would be willing to step up.
Cynthia C.: Point of Information – was this motion sent out in SR14?
Paul M.: It was not sent in the SR14.
Cynthia C.: Could I have a ruling from the Chair on that?

Tony D.: Since this is a suggested format and does not substantially change anything, it is not considered a SR14 agenda item.
Michael H.: I speak against the motion and because if it passes, it should be incorporated into the World Service Convention Guidelines or it will just get lost. Russell S.: Speak in favor of motion and it is good to see it put in writing. I’ve seen it in action and it’s a great thing.
Terry M.: Speak in favor of motion. One concern over years is what the Unity event will be at the World Service Conventions. This a great suggestion of what to do. We did have an event in Phoenix, but this could have been used as direction to hold a Unity event.
Peter O.: Speak in favor of motion.
Kellie F.: Parliamentary Inquiry – if this motion passes, will we then have to make another motion in order to insert into the WSM?
Tony D.: No, because this is for inclusion into their guidelines.
Duane M.: Speak in favor of motion because you have taken a lot of time incorporating and it sounds like fun.

#6547 That the committee encourages all districts/areas to recycle and where possible use recycled materials. As good clean and sober citizens, we should do our best to keep C.A. green.
Response: Although the committee acknowledges the important of recycling, our 4th tradition states “each group should be autonomous”. In keeping with the spirit of this tradition, the suggestion in this referral falls in the category of an outside issue.

Here are the results of the Unity Survey. I feel it important to mention this definitely is not a true reflection of our whole fellowship. The responses were so small we the Unity committee considers this report an example of what we could possibly do with the results of the survey. We can see were our meetings are not taking certain steps concerning the newcomer and we could take action to encourage enthusiasm in those areas so the groups may consider all getting on the same page when it comes to retaining the newcomer:

Taken from the Unity Pamphlet, this theme is part of a reading, a copy of which is attached to this report. With all the earnestness at our command We the Unity Committee encourage you Our fellowship to use this reading in your home groups, in your district meetings at your Area meetings…Before your business meetings start! It will make a difference.
CLOSING COMMENTS
I want to try to keep this part brief. I didn’t know when I wrote this if I would have been able to contain my emotions so far, but I do know if I say too much and my emotional nature gets the better of me! I may not be able to finish this report this week. I am the type of guy that once I start I cannot stop. I started on Unity by chance 8 years ago as vice chair to the area in the UK I was told I was to be chair for a sub-committee as per the guidelines. The only position that was available was Unity chair. So I took it on. I discovered that this position had been available for some time prior to this and I was quite surprised by that. Didn’t you know our first tradition concerned Unity? Why is nobody interested in this “Our most cherished possession”? I set out on a mission to bring Unity to the UK. After a couple years trying

many different methods, working and striving to find out what can bring Unity I came to a stop. Nothing I was trying was working; I could not bring unity to the fellowship. What I realized I had learned, was what brought Dis-Unity to the fellowship. Every time there was disagreements and controversy, it was always down to lack of knowledge concerning our traditions and how to apply them to ourselves our groups and our business meetings. Today, I stand here 100% convinced educating our entire fellowship about the traditions and the concepts, showing them how to apply them will bring about Unity. I urge you to jump on board. Come on join us on the Unity Link. Find members who are Bi-lingual encourage them to register with the International outreach committee. Be pro-active in bringing unity to your areas. Don’t wait to the crap hits the fan to realize you are not in control of the fan. We have tools lets use them and with enthusiasm lets encourage others to use them too. Unity is a common bond that transcends all differences. We’ve discovered no matter how different our circumstances or the paths that brought us here, we all suffer from the same disease: addiction.
We admitted our lack of power and accepted that we could not recover alone.
The strength and direction of our recovery is found in our unity.
We are people who might never have mixed. Addiction and recovery are the threads that bind us. We relate to such feelings as grandiosity, insecurity,

jealousy, and false pride and are reminded we are all alike. By sharing our experience with other addicts and working the Twelve Steps of C.A., we come to know humility, security, acceptance, and self-worth.
Through applying the Twelve Steps and the Twelve Traditions, we grow in love, tolerance, and respect for each other. This spiritual growth allows us to rise above prejudice, regardless of religion, ethnicity, economic status, age, gender, or sexual orientation, to carry the C.A. message. Though we are different, we are the same. Regardless of the author, we share the same story.
Recovery is possible — together.
Unity preserves our C.A. fellowship.
Unity preserves our legacy of Hope, Faith, and Courage.
Unity preserves our personal recovery, our reunited families, and our rediscovered dreams.
