The CAWSPI Committee is made up of a group of dedicated, and enthusiastic individuals. We are fortunate to have members with a wide variety of skills and expertise. The committee was infused with new members whom jumped in with great enthusiasm and passion. We are very grateful for their participation.
The Census/Survey sub-committee has been working diligently to complete the On-line survey and thanks our Web servant for his availability. The Media sub-committee has put the finishing touches on our PSA and wants to thank our DOO Linda and the WSO Director at Large Elizabeth for their input, as does the entire committee.

- MOTION: To adopt as procedure that when the World Service Board of Trustees (WSBT) or the World Services Office Board (WSOB) interacts with the National Association of Drug Court Professionals (NADCP) – or any other similar organization that implicates cooperation with the professional community as described in Section 3C of the World Service Public Information Handbook – they are requested to take the following actions:
- Inform the WSC PI Committee Chair – or the Chair’s designee – about the location, time and nature of the communication or meeting;
- Invite PI Committee participation in the communication or meeting;
- Provide a brief report to the Committee afterwards; and
- Cooperate with the PI Committee, Regional Trustees and Area Delegates to provide timely and accurate dissemination of relevant information to local areas.

Yolande O’N.: Yes.
Craig A.: I just want to clarify that this motion arose out of the information we rec’d … the PI committee wanted to be able to seize the opportunity to get that information to the local areas and utilized.
Trevor S.: Any debate?
Tom P.: I speak against the motion because of the wording.
Siobhan A.: I speak in favor of the motion and the spirit of the motion. We are trying to get involved with the Ontario Drug court system and this process would greatly help us.
Elizabeth S.: I would like to make a motion to refer this to the WSBT and WSOB. Second.

Trevor S.: The motion to refer to committee supersedes the original motion.
Richard S.: I speak in favor of the motion because I look forward to working with all parties on this motion.
George M.: I speak in favor of the motion for education and unification.

Helpline Scripts: To develop different scripts to be used when the caller connects with your districts/areas hot/helpline.
Committee response: The way we answer the C.A. Help/Hotline affects how we reach out to the still suffering addict and C.A. as a whole. We have done some research with fellowships around the country and found there were inconsistencies with what a caller might hear about our program. Because of this we have developed some options that any District/Area may use.
Motion: To insert new language on page 16 of the Public Information Handbook, Line four, Under Subheading IF YOUR AREA USES AN ANSWERING MACHINE:

If Your Area Uses an Answering Machine:
- Regularly check messages by using a roster to call in for messages.
- If you have a recorded message with meeting times and locations, offer the caller away to request to speak to a recovering addict.

Cocaine Anonymous (or CA) is a program of people helping people recover from addiction, however we do not provide treatment, legal advice, counseling, or therapy at our meetings.

Ian Y.: I see quite a few holes in the verbiage. I do not think it is helpful to say: call 911 or to speak with someone call…
Donovan B.: I am confused as to what is being inserted.
George M.: There was a typo on our part…we apologize.
Melissa L.: I speak against the motion. While I like the idea of answering the call from a suffering addict, this message is too vague.
Sara B.: We would like to withdraw the motion.
Trevor S.: Seeing no opposition, motion withdrawn.
Bill H.: Online Survey and PSA presentations
George M.: MOTION: We are asking for an additional $4500.00 for next year’s budget for the development of the PSA.

Kenny W.: What did you say the budget was?
George M.: $11,000.00.
Peter O.: The $4500.00 is for the PSA; what channels and distribution venues?
George M.: The PSA is free and will be available for fairs, courts and other venues that assist with addiction.
Jason L.: How much are we going to be spending to get the finished product?
George M.: We do not have a definite number at this time. We are getting bids.
Brian T.: I speak in favor of the motion. This is a good cause.
Dathan M.: I speak in favor of the motion. This PSA is free to all.

Alan S.: I speak in favor of the motion. The money has been budgeted and is going to good use.
Eric T.: Is the $4500 to be split over the next 2 years?
Trevor S.: No. It will bring the current budget to $5500.
Earnest M.: I speak for the motion with a heavy heart because of the screens I saw; they do not reflect the diversity of our group.
George M.: These were only a story boards. These will be produced in Spanish, English, and French.
Ian Y.: I am a big supporter of spending in PI. I speak in favor of the motion.

George M.: No it was not received or spent.
Tim M.: This PSA shows a lot of love and care went into it. I speak to the motion.

The 2012 Survey/Census (with instructions) are complete, and will be available in the first Delegate mailing. Let’s get as many of the surveys completed as possible.
Media Committee – the PSA is going to be produced as soon as possible. At this time we have a power point presentation, we know that this has been in the pipeline for a while and we would like everyone the opportunity to view what we have worked on.

CLOSING COMMENTS
Our committee like I imagine many others has been beset by issues that at times seem to be trivial and sometimes insurmountable. But in the “Spirit of Love and Service”
We have accomplished all that we were tasked to do, and are set to continue with our conference calls throughout the coming year. I feel we have a great committee, and it has been an honor to serve them as a member and Chair.
