Sep 1, 2019 – Day 5 – Daily Minutes – New Business

Posted on September 1, 2019November 27, 2022 by caws.archivist

Conference resumes session at 11:46am. QUORUM CALL. Push any button. Total 108 votes, meet required quorum.

Sarah T. provided written motion on break, we will address now.

Motion- Motion to reconsider the motion made last night to approve PI rocks video.

Phil H. – Point of Information , this must be to rescind given that it is not the same day.

Sarah T – Motion withdrawn and restated.

MOTION- Motion to amend the previously passed motion of approved PI rocks video with the extraction of soundtrack until clarification of legal status.

Stuart J. – I’d like to speak for, this motion is just the extraction of the actual soundtrack, not the visual contact of the video, for active use. Phil Hudson – Speak in favor, I checked the database, it is a licensed track.

Natalie L. – Speak in favor, upon review, investigation was pertinent.

Wade S. – Speak in favor, for purposes of approval to use. We must be doing due diligence. The licensing is pretty clear. Let us ensure we are doing things right and within the Law. There are options when we make these, and can use original score.

Seeing No further debate.

Motion -to amend as stated above

Vote #15 for 112 / 2 against, Motion amended and passed.

Misty C. –

Motion -Motion to have financial numbers for New York Convention presented to this body to be aware of current figures. Discussion on DAIS to the possibility to this request.

Trevor S. – we have no new information that was not part of the original bid, they asked for an extension on that presentation. The motion right now is out of order. the WSOB said the new budget will be available in delegate mailing when procured.

Susan B. – Motion -to approve these 2 business cards, which were provided in the SR14 mailing.

Seconded

Trevor S. – this motion is out of order. This body cannot approve something for an area and these belong to the OSA

Jason L. – point of order I would like to challenge that ruling.

Trevor S. – if I rule this out of order, you can challenge the chair.

Jason L. – Can I do this in an easier way? So you don’t have to leave your chair?

— No

Russell S. – just to clarify – did you challenge the chair’s ruling on the last item?

Jason L. – Yes. I believe the items that are presented cannot be put up on the PI website for use by the fellowship unless it is approved by this floor.

Rose J. – I oppose this… do…

Russell S. – you support the chair?

Rose J. – Yes I do

Henry A. – we do not “challenge” anyone on this floor.

Susan B. – I support the appeal of the chair’s decision on this issue.

Paul S. – I support the appeal to the chair’s decision

Michael C. – I support the appeal of the Chair’s decision

Tye S. – call the question

Russell S. – Vote on the call the question

Vote #16

91 for / against 15.Vote passes with ⅔ majority

Vote to uphold or overturn the decision of chair

Vote #17

support 76 / 35 overturn

— Did we meet quorum on this vote? Russell S. – Yes, it was over quorum at 111.

Stuart J. – What is the process to enable the OSA to have their items up to bring to PI.ca.org if not at this moment to get the conference approval? We would like to have access to these cards.

Trevor S. – This is an area, their approval is their purview. The PI committee can bring forward via referral,

Stuart J. –

Motion to approve the OSA business cards and logo for use by World Service Conference Committees.

Seconded. Debate?

Kevin M. – I speak against. There is a long standing fight on C.A. website, they are to be linked from the area, and not represented directly by the WSO website. All things on the C.A. website should come from the WSO, at the very least if they want to highlight some area business, they should link out.

Michael C. – I speak in favor, this is our revamping of new stuff, this is our PI stuff. We are moving forward with our area, having this stuff out there will allow for a growth spurt, I would hate to see that stalled because the website that it is linked to has a tradition violation on it. It will be address.

Tye S. – I would like to offer a Friendly Amendmentto exclude business card #2 until the Logo no longer touches the continent outline. No objection, Amendment Accepted.

Christine N. – I speak in favor of amendment , this is the virtual area, this should have approval for use.

Kimberly C. – I speak in favor of motion, PI works closely with the OSA to dispense information, and everything that PI can distribute must be conference approved.

Rose J. – I speak in favor, it needs to go on to the pi.ca.org. At the NADCP the professionals were excited about it, it needs to be on a platform that would be available for the entire fellowship.

Megan B. – Question, would a solution be that the OSA move from an area to a conference committee.

Trevor S. – yeah probably.

Henry A. – restate motion

Motion to approve the OSA business card 1 and logo for use by World Service Conference Committees.

Ruby C. – is the website directly linked then to ca.org and to pi with the address being pi.ca.org?

Susan B. – Call the question.

Vote #18

for 107 / 2 against

Vote #19to Amended Motion

for 104 / 12 against, Motion Passes.

Trevor S. – we will move forward with 37 minutes of our agenda left. We will take care of the Conference dates next, out of order of our Agenda.

Jay F. – Next year’s conference, Labor Day weekend, Wed Sept 2nd – Sept 6th 2020.

Motionto amend the previously passed motion (vote #55) to approve the use of the YouTube channel to be administered by the WSCPI Committee for posting of previously conference approved PSA videos and other public information developed for public consumption. MOTION TO ADD “subject to YTC and administrative guidelines being reviewed and approved by both WSBT and WSOB for propriety.”

seconded.

Dawn M. – I had concerns about using another’s music. I was really concerned as to who would be administering guidance.

Stuart J. – I am not sure that this motion captures the purpose of Dawn intention

Jonathan H. – Is this not already examined by the conference floor and all committee that have access to the SR14, I speak against.

Kevin M. – I speak against. I believe the WSOT and PI committee are already in discussion and are capable of figuring this out on their own.

Henry A. – The WSOB should speak to this, I am not in favor.

Randy M. – I speak against, only because I don’t believe this is worded properly to start, but I want to and have already been working with the PI committee as to the process coordination that all the traditions are followed and PI committee is only responsibility for the content is approved, the only thing was that in the motion that the WSOB in conjunction with the WSBT which should achieve the outcome wanted.

Jacqueline R. – Call the question.

Trevor S. – That motion is out of order as no one was behind you

Vote #20

for 65 / 55 against,Motion passes with noted opposition.

Trevor S. – we are trying our best to get to business, we cannot extend.

Please submit as an SR14.

Jay F. –

Motion To include in the Chair and Steering Selection Committee referenced on pg 37 of the 2018 Convention Guidelines (appointment and removal of CAWS convention chairperson) a person designated by the WSOB with an equal vote and voice in the selection and of the removal of the Chair.

As a result, the selection Committee would include the WSCCC Chair, the WSCCC Vice Chair, WSCCC Secretary and the applicable Regional Trustee and the WSOB designated person.

So the actual Motion would be in insert on the 4th line of Page 37 after Secretary(s) the words “WSOB designated representative”; also to insert after the word Secretary(s) in the Removal section 3rd line “WSOB designated representative”.

Also, this would affect item 1 under Chairperson duties referencing the Selection Board page 6 of the 2018 WSCCC Guidelines to also insert the words on the 5th line of item 1 after Secretary(s) the following phrase:

“WSOB designated representative”.

Motion has been seconded.

Kevin M. – recently we approved a position on the WSOB, would this be the same person, do you expect, or a different person.

Jay F. – When I sent this in, it had not passed, so now, yes.

Nathan H. – So this was, I speak against, we didn’t ignore this. We talked to the WSOB member and it was stated that there was already day to day involvement. So non action was chosen.

Henry A. – for, if the WSO members support this, I would understand.

Tammy L. – Point of Information – why are we referencing the 2018 convention guidelines?

Trevor S. – they are the most recent guidelines.

Jason L. – I feel that we discussed this, that there would be no vote to the individual as to a vote on a steering committee. this should not have been pulled from the sr14. I speak against.

Ernest M. – What is the purpose of this?

Jay F. – The incoming convention has a person that helps in that selection only, the trusted servant for that commitment.

Terry L. – Speak in favor, ensuring a voice and a vote in this business. It aligns in the spirit of the decision made earlier. To have both the voice and the vote.

Jason L. – Should we have to reconsider the other motion that regarded this position if we were to make changes to their capacity?

Trevor S. – Discussion.

Cynthia C. – I am opposed to a member of the office board to be a voting member of a committee. The officers of the committee and a trustee vote to elect those individuals, the WSOB having another input seems excessive.

Ryan R. – That’s too much control, we ask for Trustee advice as it stands.

Nathan B. – I speak against, I believe we do not encourage the convention committee to elect the steering committee. There is a specific skill set, the convention committee hasn’t spoken the collective consciousness in this decision.

Robert H. – I speak in opposition, the reasons pre-stated.

Kevin M. – The convention is not owned by a committee the WSO owns this. they should have some input as to what is happening locally.

Tammy L. – Oppose motion, as an officer of the convention committee, we get the resumes and have a process and place. this is micro-managing.

Nathan H. – I speak against, it feels like this is the WSOB convention then take the whole process from us. It’s our biggest project for the year, I feel like that’s the way this is going.

No further debate,

VOTE # 23 for 36 / 73 against, Motion Fails.

Trevor S. – we have five minutes left, we have no more time to discuss. Any more announcements?

Jay F. – Mad dash to turn in clickers, you must sign out.

Motion to Adjourn. No objections.

Adjourn at 12:57.
