CLOSING REPORT C.A. WORLD SERVICE CONFERENCE 2018

UNITY REPORT

INTRODUCTION AND OPENING COMMENTS

Welcome to the Unity committee 2018. We hope you enjoyed your hugs before our Unity breakfast! Thank you to Anne M for being our speaker after the Unity breakfast. The purpose of the Unity committee is to enhance communications and outreach among diverse elements within the fellowship of Cocaine Anonymous in the interest of carrying the message to the addict who still suffers and promoting CA Unity.

Approved – Redacted Conference 2018 Day 4 Daily Minutes Page 12 of 128

At the start of this conference, we had three committee members – one of which was volun-told by our chair that she had to serve on this committee because he wasn’t able to attend this year. Now we have 15 passionate and dedicated members that worked tirelessly during the breakout sessions to make this committee stronger and more effective. We are excited to present a new Celebrate Around the World logo and theme for 2019. In order to increase the number of submissions we receive for CATW artwork, we have decided to seek submissions through an ad in the Newsgram and through the Unity page of the CA.ORG website. We encourage you all to ask your respective area, district, and group members to submit their artwork for next year. We attended a productive meeting with the Conference Committee where we debriefed the Unity breakfast and speaker meeting and discussed options for other unity events to be held at future conferences.

  1. MOTION: To amend page 12 of the existing Unity guidelines to read as follows: CAWSC Theme It shall be the duty and privilege of the CAWSC Unity Committee to create a unifying theme for each year’s conference. Ryan A – presents the remaining portion of the report –

REFERRALS OR ITEMS TABLED UNTIL NEXT YEAR; AND ITEMS THE COMMITTEE WILL CONTINUE WORKING ON THROUGH THE YEAR

Referral Number Unity 2018-2: Please could the Unity committee consider adopting in the unity guidelines a liason for the European Region to support the growth of the European Region.

REFERRALS OR ITEMS REFERRED TO OTHER COMMITTEES; WORLD SERVICE OFFICE, OR BOARD OF TRUSTEES

None

REFERRALS THAT DID NOT RESULT IN MOTIONS

Referral Number Unity 2018-1: To somehow have the Unity speaker not just share his/her experience strength and hope but to have the speaker actually share about their experience at the Conferences they have attended and also touch on unity.

Response: Thank you for your referral. The committee will suggest to the Unity speaker that they share about their service experience at the Conferences they have attended and also touch on unity.

Referral Number Unity 2018-4: Could this unity committee consider making one standard unity celebrate around the world logo or one unity logo that could be used each year. Saving time to develop a logo each year, the logo is not always t-shirt ready designed. (need to be customized) and the cost to make a first print t-shirt are high.

Response: Thank you for your referral. The committee decided that creating a new Celebrate Around the World logo each year is critical for a couple of reasons. It ensures that the logo is unique so areas and districts who create t-shirts will be able to design/sell new shirts every year. Also, it elicits participation from members all over the world in creating and submitting artwork that may be used by the entire fellowship.

CLOSING COMMENTS

It has been an incredible honor to work with this fired up group of Unity enthusiasts from all over the world. Acting as chair of this committee has been such an amazing learning experience. I am inspired by the ideas, energy and enthusiasm generated by this committee during our breakout sessions. I am extremely proud of the work we’ve done and I’m excited for the work this committee will continue to do outside of this conference.

One of the most powerful expressions of unity is when a group of informed CA members – informed about the principles contained in our steps, traditions, and concepts – gets together and participates in something with love and enthusiasm, whether it be a meeting, a workshop, or a fellowship event, and God expresses himself through their participation. It is our hope that you all go forward from here and participate in your groups, districts, areas and regions with love and enthusiasm so that it encourages others to participate with the same love and enthusiasm.

Respectfully Submitted:

Ryan A

Trevor S – Any questions for the committee?

Rose J – I love the artwork. I would like to know, what the theme is for 2020 so we can take it back to the areas and ask for artwork?

Ryan A – That is an excellent question, we have not done that, we can however create the theme from the artwork.

Stu E – Now that your committee is no longer doing the Conference theme, who is? Ryan A – The Conference Committee will be responsible for the Conference theme.

Anne M – Would the Unity Committee be open for having artwork from other countries with other languages be considered for submission for the Celebrate Around the World event?

Ryan A – Absolutely.

Trevor S – Thank the Committee. We are going to have a break before PI. Before we do that, we will call TEC out of order to come up for their trustee announcement.
