INTRODUCTION AND OPENING COMMENTS

Opening Comments

The H&I Committee continues to educated and amaze me. The commitment, dedication and love for H&I is a bond within us all that could in no way be broken. The broad scope of ideas and initiatives that have come up has given us great hopes for years to come. Nothing like fuel for the fires of committee activity. One of the ways our group recharged during Conference is our H&I outing. Fifteen of our members tracked out to Salvation Army Long Beach to carry the message of C.A. to clients in the facility and came back ready to work. As mentioned in our reports we are excited for our upcoming Lifeline pamphlet, so much so that our Lifeline Sub-Committee has found a wealth of new members. Speaking of finding members, let’s talk about our H&I Survey that our Outreach committee has worked hard to bring to your Areas. Here is a current list of total responses received so far.

Correctional Referrals Sub-Committee

Statement of Purpose:

We are responsible for answering inmate letters and informational inquiries from correctional facilities and/or those who are currently incarcerated. This sub-committee has set up a system with the WSO to retrieve and answer letters. This helps us to ensure that all requests get a proper response.

Goals for the year:

Our goal is to continue responding to the correctional letters in a timely manner. We strive to answer many more letters and hope to be of maximum service to our incarcerated brothers and sisters. We want to serve our primary purpose through jails and institutions.

Creative Writing Sub-Committee:

Statement of Purpose

Creative Writing’s purpose is to provide the fellowship worldwide via our NewsGram with inspiring stories of recovery from C. A. members around the world. Our tasks are to encourage members to enthusiastically share their H&I experience, strength, and hope with the fellowship of Cocaine Anonymous. By sharing these experiences worldwide, we continue to carry this message to the still suffering addict, which in turn will inspire them that they too, can recover. We are committed to providing and collecting release forms and submissions of these inspirational testimonies.

Goal for the Year

We continue to strive in our efforts to increase the amount of NewsGram submissions, stories for the H&I Corner, while timely submitting stories to the editor on a regular basis. We also will follow up on all commitments from the fellowship to provide articles and are willing to assist in the preparation of their stories. We endeavor to keep the NewsGram in circulation worldwide as it has already been proven that these stories help save lives. We will solicit stories from each area of Cocaine Anonymous to share their experience, strength, and hope with us all around the world. To pass out to members and receive completed release forms for all submissions, which can also be found on the last page of our NewsGram. To encourage the New Comer that they can have a second chance at a first class life.

Lifeline Sub-Committee Guidelines

Statement of Purpose

C.A. Lifeline is a service sub-committee of the Hospitals & Institutions Committee. C.A. Lifeline’s primary purpose is to help the newcomer addicts’ transition from treatment to the rooms of Cocaine Anonymous. We do this by providing a temporary contact in the newcomer’s local area.

Goals for the Yea

Be of service in any capacity we can to assist/help the fellowship in introducing Lifeline to potential new members at treatment centers and hospitals

Guidelines Sub-Committee

Statement of Purpose

The guidelines sub-committee is committed to reviewing the guidelines for housekeeping purposes, to make them clear and concise as possible and look for ways to improve effectiveness, understanding and guidance.

Goals:

Continue housekeeping and review for correct and up to date materials in the CAWS Hospital and Institution Committee Suggested Guidelines Manual.

Statement of Purpose:

Our primary purpose is to carry the message of recovery to the still suffering addict and or alcoholic. We are committed to being accessible to all H&I committees in our fellowship to assist them in any way possible. It is our mission to outreach to the existing Cocaine Anonymous H&I Community as a whole to assist with any H&I related concerns.

2018-2019 Goals:

To continue to track H&I within our fellowship by maintaining regular contact with our Regional Trustees so we can compile quarterly H&I meeting totals.
Encourage growth by further developing contact with H&I chairs from our Area and Districts so that H&I meeting information can be readily available. To see where both our strengths and weaknesses are and to determine what solutions are being implemented to overcome obstacles being encountered.
To continue to develop a contact list of H&I Chairs within our Area and Districts to open a channel for information to be readily exchanged around the world. This goal will be achieved through contacting our Regional Trustees, our Area Chairs and Area Delegates to find out who their H&I Chairs are and by obtaining contact.

To assist concerns related to H&I within the CA fellowship by maintaining a relationship with our Regional Trustee our H&I, Area and District Chairs and respond to requests related to H&I issues.

Tradition Four- “Each group should be autonomous except in matters affecting other groups or C.A. as a whole.” It is important to remember that when making decisions on H&I’s behalf, such matters may affect C.A. as a whole.

CLOSING COMMENTS

Yall, there is nothing like finding your purpose in service! The addition of passionate international members has greatly added to our insight into the fellowship as a whole and will greatly assist in carrying the message around the world. I am over joyed to be elected to serve this committee in any capacity let alone chair. Little do they know what’s coming. As you can tell they have been busy at work doing what they are passionate about. I couldn’t ask for a better H&I crew this year. And yet could a new member be out there to rocket our committee further?

Patrice F – The Lifeline sounds like a wonderful program, where can we find out more?

Natalie L – The set up for the Lifeline program is in our guidelines, a pamphlet will be coming out soon, all the information with setting it up is within the guidelines which we are updating for access.

Susan B – I was wondering, in terms of facilities using the OSA for lifeline for meetings, bringing people into skype meetings, such as in treatment centers or for those under house arrest. I would like to see and urge H&I to encourage an online H&I presence.

Natalie L – We have talked to online committee to see what that entails, and individual Areas have to go back to their area to see if it aligns with local legalities and cater to each institution.

Natalie L – I do not have it in front of me, but we can get it up on the screen.

Kahirah M – In order to share it with our Area, it hasn’t crossed to us to see the H&I guidelines?

Natalie L – You and your area have access as it is in the Box, and also I can email it to you.

Dawn M – H&I survey, can you explain to us why it was necessary to develop a different survey to that of PI’s survey form, with the concern that having two surveys would dilute the response to both.

Natalie L – It was part of our initiative to get something together, we are using the same platform as that of PI survey. It is more targeted to the groups and their use of H&I and tools, such as Lifeline. It would be a great referral to merge that information gathered between the two committees.

Kevin M – Have you considered using the existing H&I page on ca.org website for Lifeline and other publications, I’ve heard nothing about the website being used for Lifeline information.

Natalie L – it would be a wonderful addition to have that access.
