C.A. WORLD SERVICE CONFERENCE 2012
LITERATURE, CHIPS AND FORMAT COMMITTEE
INTRODUCTION AND OPENING COMMENTS
The Literature, Chips & Format Committee continues to have a consistent international presence with members from the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, who have afforded our committee a broad and International perspective. We welcome three new members to our committee this year and we are engaged and ready to work throughout 2012-2013 to fulfill our committee’s mission. We enjoyed rich, passionate discussion on two 2011 post-Conference referrals, and 12 referrals submitted at this year’s Conference. The LCF Committee has worked hard this year at reducing our Projects Chart to a manageable list through the completion of projects.
We are excited and prepared to continue our mission to facilitate the expression of our Fellowship’s Hope, Faith and Courage through the writing of material for distribution. We are eager to continue work on the following projects in committee this coming year

- 12 Principles: Caroline B. has the lead on this project. The subcommittee presented a draft to the main committee in April 2012. A considerable amount of feedback was received and the subcommittee is reworking the draft.
- 12-Step Workbook: The WSC approved the concept for a 12-Step The subcommittee has been collaborating via a Yahoo group since December 2, 2007. We have received draft versions of some of the Steps this year and met as a committee at the 2012 WSC. Kellie F.has been the lead on this subcommittee since July 11, 2010 and the committee is busy working on each Step. We look forward to working on this project throughout the coming year and anticipate a draft version in 2013. The workbook outline/format per group conscience includes the Step, personal experience, questions, some worksheets, quotes from various literature and a gratitude exercise or prayer for each Step. Help is S. needed on this project from motivated individuals who would like to see this project come to fruition. Anyone interested should contact the LCF Committee or the subcommittee. We will be creating a new flyer for our book projects, look for it in your delegate mailing soon. All we need is few good people. The Workbook subcommittee does not believe this will be the ‘official C.A. way’ to work the Steps but rather another tool to help new people and sponsors work the 12 Steps which are vital to our personal recovery.
- 12 Steps & 12 Traditions Book: Slowly but surely, a subcommittee is taking shape. Very little work has been completed on this project to date. Jason L. is the lead on this sub-committee. Unfortunately this committee was unable to meet at the Conference due to the lead being

on TEC. Bless the TEC.The committee is taking shape to create an outline of what the finished project might look like. A flyer will be created to solicit input from the Fellowship for LCF’s book projects.
- 12 Traditions & 12 Concepts Illustrated: Elizabeth S.took the lead on this subcommittee in. A Yahoo group has been formed to facilitate subcommittee work. Currently the committee is looking for individuals who can help with the Illustrations.
- Meditation Book: The Meditation Book Subcommittee has been working very hard this year to complete its first draft. Jeannette J. has the lead on this subcommittee. A motion was approved in main LCF Committee to move the meditation book to Point 10 of the C.A Book Approval process. The main committee will review the entire book by October 30th. Once those reviews and or edits are done, we will vote to move the Meditation Book to Point 11 which is to present a draft to the WSBT. We are very excited and humbly proud of the work completed this year on the Meditation Book, “A QUIET PEACE.” Thanks again to all of you who made submissions and who worked so hard to bring this draft to Conference.
- The 7th Tradition (revision to existing pamphlet): Tom P.is the lead on this project. Pamphlet draft has been completed. Subcommittee is reviewing changes and we are very pleased with the progress. LCF Committee hopes to have a draft available in the next SR14 Mailing.
- To The Newcomer (revision to existing pamphlet): The sub-committee met at the Conference this year and has new members enthusiastically looking forward to doing the work. Julie P. has the lead and will work on the project in subcommittee this year with new excitement.
- We Can Recover: Cynthia C. has the lead on this committee. This reading was put into the subcommittee process for possible revisions based on referrals received in 2003. At the 2005 WSC, someone pointed out from the floor that there were several inconsistencies

between We Can Recover and The First 30 Days. Revisions to We Can Recover were presented at the 2010 WSC but the reading was referred back to subcommittee. Based on feedback received in 2010, and 2012 Conference the committee will revisit and review suggestions for consideration.
- Young People in Recovery: Elizabeth S. has the lead on this project. A draft was presented to the main committee at Conference and we are pleased that this piece is now at Point 7 of the C.A. Pamphlet Approval Process. We hope to have a draft for the fellowship in the next SR14 mailing.
We have scheduled our first bi-monthly conference call and will continue to welcome new members. Our Projects Chart is included in this report for further information in Attachment C.

Please move the publications process from the LCF guidelines to the WSO/WSBT. Publications are owned solely by the WSO and in order to protect our publications, it must remain that way. It is inappropriate for a publications process to be in the guidelines of a committee that does not have responsibility or authority over them.
The WSO desires to continue to work with the committee, but the process is more appropriate under the WSO/WSBT.

The pamphlet “Tips for Staying Clean and Sober” is a dangerous and possibly deadly piece of literature which should not be endorsed by Cocaine Anonymous. The only “tips” CA should endorse are the suggestions called the 12 steps of Cocaine Anonymous. Tips such as “HALT” and “Keep coming back” are not anywhere found in the Alcoholics Anonymous book and most of the tips found in this pamphlet are arguably at odds with the message of the 12 Steps of Cocaine Anonymous. I am requesting that CAWS stop endorsing, producing or providing this piece of misleading literature. Thank you.

We appreciate your referral. “Tips” was written to support newcomers as they gain the tools to begin the 12 Steps. The Fourth Tradition states, in part: “…each group should be autonomous.”Groups are free to choose whichever C.A. approved pamphlets they wish to use.

Thank you for your referral. We think this is a beautiful idea. If you would like to submit a rough draft we would be happy to review it. However, at this time we do not have the resources to take on a new book project. We shared this idea with the Newsgram Editor. The Editor welcomes the idea and will begin a regular feature called “God Shots.” Submissions can be sent to newsgram@ca.org.

Please change/update some of the readings that are read in the meetings to be more identifiable to the Newcomer: “scraping the corners of the little brown bottles” is something that we did back in the 70s and 80s. The new and potentially new members that are sitting in our meetings need to be able to relate to what’s being read. The question has been asked “what do they mean?” I believe that because C.A. is for those that want to be free from “all other mind altering substances” that we would emphasize on that, as in the part where we read “the straw, the pipe, the needle.”

The original concept for the eternity coin was expanded to say “eternally grateful” so it would appeal to C.A. members S. living as well as to the families of those who have passed on. The symbol on the coin is actually an ancient Celtic symbol for eternity. We will suggest to the Newsgram editor that she include an article on the eternity coin in a future edition.

That CA formats have the “Serenity Prayer” or the “We” version of the “Serenity Prayer” as the closing prayer. Because —- now that CA is truly international and multi-deity, the Lord’s Prayer can be too Christian for other belief systems.

Please consider adding “Having Fun in Recovery” to Hope, Faith & Courage Volume II. This piece was approved in 2004, the same year as the table of contents for HFC II, and thus was not available for inclusion at the time. In 2010 when three other pieces were added to the book, I believe we overlooked this piece because it was no longer “new”. We go through a lot of these in my Area and I believe it would be a good addition to the book. My worst fear when I got sober was that I would never have fun again. Thank you for your consideration.

We look forward to working together via e-mail and conference calls throughout the coming year. The LCF Committee members continue to inspire and amaze me with their talent, dedication and phenomenal enthusiasm for carrying the message to the still suffering addict.
If you see a piece on our projects list that you’d like to work on, we could use your help. If you feel you know someone in your area who could assist the LCF committee on its projects please have them get in touch with the LCF Chair. We would be happy to have any new members on our committee. LCF Committee works throughout the year on our projects and we have the assistance of several non-delegate members for which we are truly grateful.
Just a reminder, in the future, when submitting referrals for projects, the Committee would be much assisted by the fellowship if draft proposals or content suggestions are submitted with the referral. The more of your ideas we receive, the more the finished product will help reflect the diversity of our fellowship. Randy G.: re: referral #6479, this was sent to WSBT last year…the intent behind the referral is that there is a missing piece in the approval process and it needs to be corrected.. The declined to take action implies to me that this is not important enough to the committee to work on.

Tom P.: Two parts to Point 11, one reviews for tradition violation, and the other is for WSBT review. We feel that is enough.
