OPENING REPORT

C.A. WORLD SERVICE CONFERENCE 2010

CONFERENCE COMMITTEE REPORT

INTRODUCTION AND OPENING COMMENTS:

Welcome to the 2010 World Service Conference. This year’s theme is “Our Common Welfare Comes First”.” As we proceed through these next 5 days let us be mindful of our theme as we remember that together, helping one another, we can help the addict who still suffers. This committee’s task throughout the past year has been to complete the planning necessary so that this Conference can be as organized and well planned so as to provide the best possible service to its attendees. We are also mindful of our Committee charge, as well to keep the delegates and the Fellowship informed of issues affecting C.A. as a whole. Our Committee began working soon after the 2009 Conference, meeting each month via conference call and at the CAWS Convention in Milwaukee, preparing for this year’s main event. Below is a summary of the items we addressed.

  • Review of evaluation of the 2009 Conference
  • Review/Copy Conference transcripts
  • Completed the final conference report for distribution to the delegates and Fellowship and posting to the website

Approved Page 19 of 30

  • Conference minutes have been distributed to the delegates
  • Summary of motions have been prepared and distributed
  • Approved all conference forms, including the new all-in-one registration form
  • Addressed the new delegate kick-off dinner off site from the hotel (Tuesday night)
  • Approved responses to post conference referrals
  • Completion of the 2010 Conference Agenda
  • Finalized of “A Guide to the Conference” for the delegates and other Conference attendees which was circulated at the end of last year’s Conference
  • Completed a standardized form for future Conference site-selection and for other potential hosting cities to be able to procure bids for hotel space for the Conference.
  • Review and update of orientation for the 2010 Conference
  • Continued to utilize the Yahoo Group for continued committee communication and posting of documents
  • Developed a new 2010 Conference-Approved T-Shirt to help off-set the Conference committee budget
  • Re-worked the registration process to make it more efficient
  • Continued on a site selection process for a hotel site for 2012 and perhaps 2013. This work should be ongoing for our Committee throughout this Conference.

We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to the fellowship and to all Conference attendees this year. We are at your service.

REFERRALS THAT WERE WORKED UPON DURING THE YEAR:

Referral # 6322

In your newly passed document titled “A guide to the conference” under the meeting section-please review the ballroom set for 200 class…Tuesday to Sunday… Please look at the possibility of changing the start date to begin on Wednesday as a cost saving opportunity to areas and world service.

Approved Page 21 of 30

RESPONSE: No action taken at this time (though we will keep this under consideration for future Conferences).

Referral #6324

I have noticed that this conference uses a lot of resources e.g. Paper, ink, pamphlets, lanyards and the name badge holders. Would it be possible to recycle or re-use some of these materials?? Recycle bins for paper?? Recycle bins for lanyards and nametag holders??

RESPONSE: The Conference Committee is already involved in the green/recycling effort. We will have recycling bins and boxes to collect whatever materials we can for re-use or future use. Read more about our Green efforts in the Conference newsletter.

Referral #6332

Please consider adding a second screen at the front of the conference so that the motion being debated is always displayed. This would make it much easier to keep track of amendments and keep arguments focused on motions which are not distributed in hard copy.

RESPONSE: No action at this time. – the expense is deemed to be too high, as there would have to be a separate screen to rent, a separate projector to rent, and the patch to interconnect computer screens to multiple feeds is quite cumbersome and costly as well.

Referral #6351

Can we please in interest to the new and out of state/and or area delegates put together a map with their packets of registration that might show places to eat,

Approved Page 22 of 30

office supplies and places to get hygiene supplies? Thank you for your time and patience.

RESPONSE: This has been part of the Committee’s registration process in the past. It is being reinstituted this year. Thanks for the suggestion.

Referral #6372

To add SR 23 to page 39 of the WSM.

In the spirit of leadership a seventh tradition will be collected of the 1st and the last day of the conference. The collection to take place at the discretion of the chair.

RESPONSE: This item has been tabled until our Committee meets in person this week. Our Committee will examine this further this week as part of our ongoing agenda.

Referral #6374

That all closing committee reports be checked for logo violations, grammar and spelling prior to being copied and distributed on the conference floor, so that no “housekeeping” is required! Standing rule?

RESPONSE: No action will be taken at this time. There are some existing checks and balances in place by and among the respective committees. (Otherwise, housekeeping exists to take care of human error).

CLOSING COMMENTS:

In Closing, we the Conference Officers and the Conference Committee, look forward to serving you this week, and to having a successful 2010 World Service Conference! If you have any questions the remainder of this week, please see

Approved Page 23 of 30

Lori Penrose, the Conference Coordinator, Jay Finesilver, the Conference Co-Coordinator or anyone on our Conference Committee. In case you haven’t noticed the Conference Committee has available to you these limited edition, wonderful, gorgeous, beautiful, and artistic Conference approved T-Shirts! If you foolishly did not pre-order one and you still want one there is a VERY limited quantity available outside the business office at the C.A. store.

As a reminder we are seeking and encouraging all delegates and attendees to join and serve on this great Committee! Being a member of this Committee is exciting and rewarding and we have a lot of fun!

In Love and Service,

Siobhan Ayer

WSC Conference Committee Chair and the entire Conference Committee.

Kevin Murphy: Any questions for the Conference Committee?

Russell Sedman: Over the last few years, with Delegate Mailings. I have received ones without last names not redacted, etc. My first response was to blame the office. Then while on a roll, I blamed you. As Incoming Chair, the thing that I believe is lacking at this Conference, no one has shown me how to submit documents. Will the new Chairs and Secretaries, that there is a responsibility for submitting documents.

Siobhan Ayer: We will be showing the Secretaries how to submit information out the fellowship. Hopefully through this process, we will find something that will work for all.

Russell Sedman: Are you going to put something down as a guide?

Siobhan Ayer: Yes

Susan Bredau: Will the Secretary standardize the vernacular?

Approved Page 24 of 30

Siobhan Ayer: I don’t think that we will be dealing with grammatical issue, but rather standardized reporting so that we are all on the same page.

Kevin Murphy: Do you remember the video about herding cats? That’s kind of what we are working with here. I understand your concern though. Any other questions for Conference Committee? I would like to thank us for our hard work!!! Next up is the Archive Committee.
