INTRODUCTION AND OPENING COMMENTS
Opening Comments
This year, working under our new name, IT, information technology, we addressed the broad scope of referrals coming from the fellowship.
Much thought and discussion was done over topics like disclaimers, logo usage, electronic formats, and the interest of many, audio on-line. We also cut our budget by 50%.
This committee had three new members:

Motion to add the following disclaimer to our IT Committee Workbook and Guidelines under Appendix II. World Service Office Policies for posting World Service Convention Information on the WSO web site.

#4950 – Real-time on-line chat meetings
Motion to add bullet point for chat rooms in our IT Committee Workbook and Guidelines under things to be avoided.
Second –
Karen Rupp-After many years of discussing the feasibility of chat rooms, this committee has decided that they would not serve the best interest of Cocaine Anonymous. We have not found any way of creating a chat room while being in compliance of the 12 Traditions.

#4951 – Disclaimer for area and local websites
Motion to add a bullet point in our IT Committee Workbook and Guidelines under things to be avoided, the proper names of locations, and it is recommended that the generic name of a location be used such as restaurant, church, hospital, etc…

Susan Bureda – I speak against this motion. Some times the proper name of a location is the only way to find location.
Tad Smith – POI , Do I have to edit the hotel names in the future?
Leon Mason, we have the disclaimers , this is just a suggestion under things to be avoided. This is about other events. If you can avoid the proper name if you can avoid it. It is still just a suggestion.
Bryan Bell- POI ,is this suggestion also apply to our local meeting directory.

Greg Baron – speaks against the motion. Getting a lot of disclaimers here. On serious note, this particular one seems may have unintended consequence. We need to adhere to guidelines to remain linked to World. Any other site not following guidelines that doesn’t use disclaimer, up and out there, just not linked to World. If IT looks at our website and we are following the guidelines, then we are OK.
Susan Bredau – speaks against the motion. Web sites are to serve the addict that still suffers. If they read it at all, and they read that an area wasn’t affiliated with CA, then they would really have to think twice about attending.
Jay Finesilver – speaking for the motion. Came about as a referral that came to Colorado area. Wasn’t necessarily about excluding but including. About some principles, affiliation, trademark protection and non-endorsement of local areas content. More about protecting the Mother Ship. Protecting CA World Services from what a local area would do. Websites not linked that have our trademark, we ask them to cease and desist.

Jesse Little – speaks against the motion. Already have disclaimers on front page of every website. Cannot agree.
Rick Delgado – speaks against the motion. To have an area website to have link is already being scrutinized by Trustee, IT committee, etc. It’s confusing to newcomer that goes to area website seeming to separate from World.
Cynthia Cronkhite – speaks in favor. Came from WBOT. Has seen local meeting directories that have a similar disclaimer. There is no 24/7 monitoring. While best intentions might be in mind by those handling website, this is a catch all because we can’t monitor 100% of time.

Greg Baron – Understands concerns of those speaking against, a little bit of trust is warranted. The websites are looked at before linking and periodically by many. Seems that the websites that we are worried about are the ones that wouldn’t put the disclaimer up anyway. Don’t want newcomer to go away thinking the website is not affiliated with World. Not worth it for confusion.

Nick Alexander – POINT OF INFORMATION – would this be the same as the last 2 disclaimers in the previous motion. If this isn’t on area’s website, would it be taken off?
Tony Drake – That’s correct.
Tad Smith – Are we going to have some claimers that state these websites approved?

#4965 – adding streaming speaker tapes to ca.org

Second.
Greg Baron – speaking against this motion. I wrote this referral. I spoke of website adding streaming CA speaker audio so people could listen at any time, can’t get to a meeting, etc., they could listen. San Diego put some up before there were no guidelines and I thought about it and wrote the initial referral asking the committee to develop some guidelines. They came back with a set of suggestions and procedure set up for audio to go up, it needs to have speaker sign release, voted on at the area level, and then it must go to WBOT for approval. Pretty good checks and balances. Was looking for some for these tapes to be made available on the World website. No problems when we had it up. Got a lot of positive feedback and got a lot of new people in the meetings after hearing them. World website great place to do this. Came back with our body to approve something here before an Area can put something up. Hard to get things approved here and we are missing a good chance to reach newcomer.
Tony Drake – love Greg’s idea. Speak in favor of the motion. Love speaker tapes. If you have ever been on a speaker committee for a convention, it’s tough. Getting everyone in area to approve. It’s tough. Swearing in just one of the issues. Opinions vary much about the message and how it’s presented. Look at literature approval. Not a good logistical way to do this. Conference approved part because the conference has already approved some video that can be added now and we can use it.

Bryan Bell – speak in favor of motion. Like to listen to lots of speaker tapes. They are very valuable to recovery. I want CA Conference approved literature only to go on CA websites. Don’t want different messages coming out that hasn’t been checked out by our Trustees and conference. Don’t want people turned away.
Nick Alexander – Point of Information – is the HFC book on CD?
John Bodkin – yes, HFC is available in analog and digital formats. We sell at WSO and we like doing that. Thanks.

#4860 – Develop a basic web page template
Discussion resulted in this committee taking the following action. We will develop and evaluate a web page template that can be distributed to the fellowship upon request
#4914 – Create a PI email group
The IT committee has been working on this throughout the year. It will be in testing phase some time this year and will hopefully be available in 2007.
Gerard Collard Parliamentary Inquiry – thought we didn’t read the remainder of the report into the microphone.

REFERRALS THAT DID NOT RESULT IN MOTIONS
#4887 – Request for approval to add MP3/CD “shares” on ca-online.org for sale as fundraising.
It is the opinion of this committee that any CA website that offers tapes/cds/speakers for sale should not be linked to CA.org. We believe there are other opportunities for fundraising that can be explored and utilized. We also feel the process of evaluating for endorsement what constitutes a CA speaker is more than any one or two present committees can do.

CLOSING COMMENTS

Vinny Martin – has a question. There are 3 or 4 word referrals. Why don’t you write out the referrals as they were given to you.
Sandy Pascall – some of the referrals we received were 4 or 5 pages long. Took last year’s reports and used it as a guide. I have the referrals and can provide them to you if you want to read.
Vinny Martin – can we get them written out next year? I was kind of lost and seemed vague. I would like to see before I vote.
