CLOSING REPORT

C.A. WORLD SERVICE CONFERENCE 2006

CONFERENCE REPORT

INTRODUCTION AND OPENING COMMENTS:

Opening Comments:

It is apparent that again we have accomplished what this Committee set out to do.

Our Committee worked year round to bring this Conference to you, meeting each month by conference call, and with a face to face in Houston. As always the outcome has been truly awesome, as well as spiritual. We will continue to put our best efforts forward for another successful Conference next year.

Like last year, we lengthened the Conference by one day. This allowed committees additional time to complete their business. We believe this also reduced stress, and encouraged more enthusiasm about the business at hand. Our “Kick off Dinner” was a success due to the support of all of you. Did you all have a good time? This event evolved out of a “Cookie & Coffee/Meet & Greet,” and is evidence that our fellowship is growing up. We hope that those who attended had positive experience, and will support the event in the future.

The registration process continues to refine itself. We feel this was the best year yet, and appreciate the hard work of the Administrative Coordinator, and the World Service Office. We continue to develop our Conference Committee Guidelines in order to serve the needs of the Conference attendees.

We are working in cooperation with the WSO, and the Information Technology Committee to develop an electronic referral form. We are anticipating this to rollout sometime in the next twelve months. We are happy to announce that we are within our budget, and will continue to work diligently to reduce the cost of the Conference. We truly appreciate the opportunity to be of service to this fellowship.

Chair – prepare to vote.

Also, please amend page 3 of the Conference Committee guidelines to reflect that it is the committee trustee and not the WS Trustee.

Motion to strike on page 3 of the Conference Committee Guidelines under “Additional Functions of the Committee” to strike the WS Trustee, the Vice Chair of the WSOB and insert in its place “…a member of the WSBT, a WSOB Director…”

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS OF THE COMMITTEE

A subcommittee of the Conference Committee also serves throughout the year as the WSC Mailings Review subcommittee. The subcommittee will consist of WS Trustee, the Vice-Chair of the WSOB a member of the WSBT, a WSOB Director and one other member of the Conference Committee that is not a Trustee or a member of the WSOB. The other member should meet the same minimum requirements as a delegate even if that person is not a delegate. It is suggested that a Conference Officer serve in the capacity as the other member whenever geographically feasible. Second.

Chair – any debate?

Motion passes unanimously.

Referral #5389 – Revise guidelines to remove requirements for Conference chair to attend WS Forum at CAWS Convention unless the committee can budget to send the chair to the convention.

Motion to strike the last bullet (#3) on page 7 of the conference officers’ responsibilities.

CONFERENCE OFFICERS:

Responsibilities to Conference Committee:

The World Service Conference officers serve on the Conference committee to assist in the proper function of the conference. Some of their duties are as follows:

  • WSC Chair and Vice-Chair/Parliamentarian chair the conference proceedings and the New Delegate Orientation prior to the conference opening.
  • WSC Chair formulates the conference agenda and submits it to the WSO for inclusion in Delegate mailings.

Page 34 of 67 – Unapproved Summary of Motion

  • WSC Chair also attends and participates in the World Service forum at the World Service Convention.

The committee consists of delegates and members of the Cocaine Anonymous fellowship with a willingness to serve. They work closely with other committee members throughout the year.

Second.

Chair – any debate?

Motion passes unanimously.

REFERRALS OR ITEMS TABLED UNTIL NEXT YEAR; AND ITEMS THE COMMITTEE WILL CONTINUE WORKING ON THROUGH THE YEAR:

Referral #4907 – Please create and use an electric referral form.

Response: Development of an electronic referral form is in progress with the cooperation of the WSO and Internet Technology Committee.

REFERRALS OR ITEMS REFERRED TO OTHER COMMITTEES; WORLD SERVICE OFFICE, OR BOARD OF TRUSTEES:

Referral #4868 – Please consider adding a WSBT tab to the delegate notebook and include the current trustee guidelines.

Response: Referred to WSOB.

REFERRALS THAT DID NOT RESULT IN MOTIONS:

Referral #4900 – That the committee considers offering a “bottomless cup of coffee” with conference mug/cup included for a fee with registration to offset the cost of coffee.

Response: Currently our room block and meeting space ensures that our coffee is free to the fellowship.

Referral #4966 – The CA 12-step meetings listed in the conference agenda don’t list a location – they are usually held at a table by the pool. I think they should be held in a meeting room which should be well attended. Having them in a meeting room and announcing the times and location might help increase attendance. I believe a lot of to other delegates could use a meeting from time to time during the conference and the meetings might be better attended if they were held in a meeting room and announced.

Response: We will state a location for the CA meeting on the agenda.

CLOSING COMMENTS:

In closing, please take the time to complete evaluation form regarding this Conference. Forms will be available at the back of the room. We truly appreciate your attendance, and participation at this Conference. We are grateful to see the work of CA advance further at each Conference, and to those that serve. At this time I would like to have Leslie Groter announce the location for next year’s Conference.

We will be returning to the Four Points Sheraton, August 27, 2007 through September 3, 2007. A very special thanks to those who have completed their service commitment at this Conference and are rotating out. Thank you for your dedication. Finally, this committee extends its well wishes to Patty Flanagan, and will continue to keep her in our thoughts and prayers.

We look forward to seeing you next year

Respectfully Submitted:
