Public Information Committee Report
INTRODUCTION AND OPENING COMMENTS:
It is my pleasure to report that the WSC PI Committee has remained active and productive since the last conference thru an online e-mail loop. We have a busy year ahead of us. We have plans to re-vamp the radio PSA’s to fit the standards put forth by radio stations. We will continue to look at effective ways to contact the media and to put the name Cocaine Anonymous on the recovery map! We will be developing sub- committees that will be responsible for the Fact File, the Workbook and the survey/census. These sub-committees will continue to review those documents and suggest updates and/or changes. The survey will be a huge undertaking in trying to develop better ways to tabulate the results. We will also be updating the survey form to make it clearer to understand the questions being asked.

REFERRALS THAT WERE WORKED UPON DURING THE YEAR:
- After the conference last year we spent a good deal of time developing on-line voting procedures.
- We tabulated the 2003-2004 survey and census results. These results will be included in our closing report.
- Thanks to Miss Patty and our webmaster we have been able to add the 2003 conference approved PI Workbook, the Fact File, the blank census form, and best of all, the Public Service Announcement to the ca.org website.
- We have had continued discussions on how to effectively contact major media organizations such as HBO. Although letter writing is an option, we would like to make it more personalized by calling and or visiting these organizations. This is one of the main issues we hope to address this year. When we have a clearer plan we can begin to develop guidelines on how to go about this properly.
- We believe it is important to have open lines of communication with district/area PI committees all over. This has resulted in our being able to share our successes and failures. With these open lines of communications we feel it can make the WSC PI committee and the district PI committees far more effective in the future Here are some of the highlights we have received from some areas on how PI is doing locally.
- Denver, CO has had some success with the Escape Cocaine poster.
- Phoenix, AZ has been invited to attend a recovery celebration at the Phoenix Civic Center towards the end of September along with other 12 Step programs. We will have a booth with CA literature and a TV that plays our PSA over and over.
- Charlotte, NC has a HUGE success with the PSA. A local cable TV company is running the PSA 400 times per month! As a result of this extra exposure they are getting an average of 10 calls per day, which is phenomenal for a fellowship their size! Great job North Carolina!
CLOSING COMMENTS:
As you can see we have a lot of things to work on and we could really use your help. We are looking for a new secretary. We have been one of the smallest committees over the last few years and I would love to see it grow. We have a lot of hard work to do, work that can make a real difference for Cocaine Anonymous. If you have not yet chosen a committee to sit on, please join ours. We need fresh/new ideas! We hope you will come and join us! It will be very rewarding!
