Opening Comments:

Good afternoon: It is the purpose of this Unity Committee to enhance communication and outreach among our fellowship as concerned members of Cocaine Anonymous in the interest of carrying the message to the addict who still suffers.

As WSC Unity Chair I must say this has been a learning experience I have enjoyed more than I can express in words. My committee has been enthusiastic and so willing to step up the task at hand, if all committee members I work with were of this type I could say this is a perfect world. Each committee member will speak briefly on there project as we do the introductions.

I would like to take a minute to speak on the Unity Survey- Retaining the Newcomer which is located in the Unity Committee Guidelines. (See attached to report). This is a survey I would like to see every CA member take to heart and look at what are they bringing to the group, to not only promote unity, but to not promote disunity. If all delegates would take this survey back to their areas and districts that this survey gets to the meetings and the GSR have a chance to share this with the group, each member can take a look at himself and see where they can do their part to promote Unity in CA as a whole, that we continue to be here and welcome the Newcomer.

COMMITTEE INTRODUCTIONS:

Waheedah Muhammad, Chair
Willie Austin, Vice Chair / Unity Luncheon Liaison
Steve Goldberg, Unity Luncheon Committee
David Tighe
Margie Mineard, Secretary
David Booth
Rose Jones, Celebrate Around the World Chair
Kelly Collins, Co-Chair CATW
Paul Mears, Unity Archive Chair
Glenn Tucker
Willie Bailey, World Service Office Board Trustee
Yvette Holman, World Service Office Board of Directors

Kevin Murphy: Are you presenting the survey for approval?

Waheedah Muhammad: It has been a part of our guidelines forever.

Rose Jones: Motion to accept the submitted artwork for 2010 CATW? Second.

Kevin Murphy: Prepare to vote. Motion passes with some opposition.

Rose Jones: We updated the CATW Flyer that was asked for last year. It is a part of the report. Read at your leisure.

Paul Mears: Unity Guidelines are being distributed that have been updated and please put in your Delegate Notebooks. The page numbers have changed if you are referencing. I love Unity. We had a great meal today and see everyone out in the park. Lack of knowledge and understanding is a cause of disunity. We are preparing Powerpoint for approval so that groups can put on Unity workshops. If you are interested in helping, please contact me.

REFERRALS OR ITEMS TABLED UNTIL NEXT YEAR; AND ITEMS THE COMMITTEE WILL CONTINUE WORKING ON THROUGHOUT THE YEAR

#1.            The Unity Committee will write an Article addressing Unity

Problems along with the solution, in the News Grams, Unity corner each quarter.

Cynthia Cronkhite: Point of Order – isn’t this the part of the report that is not read into the microphone.

Kevin Murphy: that is correct.

#2            Archive Subcommittee will be collecting and storing old meeting minutes, reports and artwork to create “pass it on” documentation for future committees. This will enable us to avoid duplication of efforts of previous committees.

#3            To bring active the Unity Registration form located the Unity Committee Guidelines, that it may better serve the fellowship in promoting unity at meeting, district, area, and regional levels. (see attached to report)

REFERRALS OR ITEMS REFERRED TO OTHER COMMITTEES; WORLD SERVICE OFFICE, OR BOARD OF TRUSTEES

NONE

REFERRALS THAT DID NOT RESULT IN MOTIONS, BUT COMMITTEE ADDRESSED

Referral #6158 That the unity committee write an article addressing the problems and the solutions of the fellowship, for each quarter in the Unity corner of the news gram.

Response: We are writing as we speak, 2 articles have been completed during conference. Others will follow.

Referral #6091 To do A Tradition and a Concept Workshop Presentation (PowerPoint). As a means to educate our fellowship as to what these tools are and how they should be used.

Response: A Sub committee will get started on this ASAP. The committee fills it is a GREAT idea. We are looking forward to getting started.

Referral #6256 Look at PG 15, item #2. “It is fully self-supporting”

Please collect a 7th Tradition to follow our goal.

Response: If you mean we should pass the pot at our Unity CA meetings during conference. Please remember Unity is free and the group and decided there are no cost attached to these meetings. So we are self supporting.

CLOSING COMMENTS

As a diverse group of recovering people, we found that communication and outreach among ourselves on the Unity Committee was necessary in our efforts to be effective in our committee’s purpose. In doing so, we were able to address the work of the Unity Committee, as stated above, including discussion of holding meetings of the month, and taking newcomers to meetings in other districts and areas to enhance unity within CA. In sharing this meeting of the month idea from last year we have gotten GREAT feedback from the various areas and districts that have implemented this, in their effort to promote UNITY.

We strive to effectively meet the goals and mission of the WSC Unity Committee, which is to enhance communication and outreach among diverse elements within the fellowship of Cocaine Anonymous in the interest of carrying the message to the addict who still suffers and promoting CA Unity.

Respectfully Submitted:

Waheedah Muhammad, Chair

Kevin Murphy: Questions for Unity Committee:

Cynthia Cronkhite: Paul sort of spoke to this. I believe that the Unity Guidelines were modified in 2008?

Waheedah Muhammad: They were updated and the wrong ones were added to the Delegate Manual.

Cynthia Cronkhite: the ones I have in my hand reflect 2009 revisions.

Kevin Murphy: Thank you Unity Committee.

Kevn Murphy: We will hear a motion from Finance Committee.
