OPENING REPORT
C.A. WORLD SERVICE CONFERENCE 2009
H&I REPORT
INTRODUCTION AND OPENING COMMENTS:
Jason Smidt, H&I Chairperson:
Hey folks. The committee was pretty busy post conference. In the past, inmate letters sent to the central office were typically handed off to the regional trustee. Last year we consulted with the world office and agreed that it might be more efficient to direct that type of correspondence to the H&I Committee. We then did our best to get those requests for help to the local district or area. That process seems to be working well. So, during the course of the year; Outreach calls were returned from several regions and areas. There were no post-conference referrals this year. Conference calls were conducted and we mainly discussed ways in which to promote enthusiasm for H&I programs around the World. We also continued to develop the tool of the H&I Statistical Board / Map in which we

are excited to present to you this year numbers that show the meeting growth between 2008 and 2009. Our Hope is that you all will stop by our Statistical Board/Map that will be on display during the course of the conference which reflects what H&I is doing across the globe to carry the message! Last year we asked everyone to sign a Banner which was presented to the newest Area to take home as a welcoming gift showing a recognition of our support to the newest members of our fellowship. We are glad to have a Banner available again this year for signing in the lobby tomorrow. At the end of the Conference the committee will report the recipient of the new Banner.
This committee believes that H&I is a powerful and critical way for us to reach the newcomer and instrumental in growing new areas and keeping existing areas vital.

CLOSING COMMENTS:
The committee is looking forward to exploring the possibility of developing a new way to carry the message. The working title of this new work is “CA Lifeline”. The idea is that we visit treatment facilities, introduce our fellowship and assist them when they leave in those first critical days of early recovery. The committee is excited to work on this new project. We hope to be able to present further

details by the end of the conference. This project typifies the excitement and desire the commitment has towards H&I work. If your area needs help with H&I or better yet .. if you are as excited about this work as we are; then please join us and get involved. Thank you.
