Sharon reports on the Washington DC area as part of her report. The area has generally been doing very well with the 16 existing meetings. The HelpLine number is 202 726-1717 and the Area Chair is Dwayne Boston. There is a new public Information Chairperson, James T. PI has been trying to coordinate with WSO to obtain information about available PSA’s. Local TV and radio stations have been contacted to set up PSA airtime. This will hopefully be in place by February or March 1997. The HelpLine still provides a list of all meetings in Washington DC, Maryland, and Northern Virginia. H&I is trying to find members to take meetings into local facilities. There are enough members to cover the existing H&I meetings but not enough to go to new meetings being requested. There is a new Tuesday night H&I meeting in a homeless shelter in Rockville, Some of the other H&I meetings have been lost due to a drop in patients in treatment centers. The committee meets twice a month. They have also begun to pass the H&I can in open CA meetings. They will use this money to purchase books and other literature. 7th Tradition and book sales are both in a slump. There are two new meetings in Frederick, AID. They are exploring the possibility of distrcting.
