Motion by Willie B.: Emergency Motion: To approve a $15,000 (USD dollars) transfer of funds from savings account to operations account. Second by Randy G. Discussion>

We have 10,507.00 in unpaid invoices that are more than 30 days behind; it looks as though we are 30 days behind with our bills. In order for us to prevent from paying huge amounts in finance charges and late fees, the office is attempting to clean up the books to get on track. The 15,000.00 would put us on track and having on hand for any unexpected unpaid, it looks like we would only need 11,000.00, but there were some checks deleted that were cashed, so the accounting is off. There is a deposit pending of 7,000.00 between 7th tradition and contribution program, which comes in next week. Payroll and Quarterly meeting will eat up what is in the bank now and will leave us in the negative.

>Randy G.: I speak against the motion – IF the IRS has truly set the reimbursement for volunteers of a non-profit organization at .14/mile – then I don’t see how we can use something different. The integrity of our organization and trustees should never be in question regarding expenses. If we drive vehicles that don’t get the miles/gallon necessary for .14 to cover the gas expense – we already have the option to be reimbursed 100% for gas used by submitting actual gas receipts as explained to us at the last quarterly.

In response to your most recent email:
The provision in the World Service budget for reimbursement to the Trustees for the registration and the banquet is provided to them via the group conscience at the Conference. The World Service Finance Committee over sees the presentation, and is approved by them. All budgets regarding the Trustees are presented to the Conference for approval, so there is nothing dishonest about the use of funds for this. The Convention is the largest fundraiser that CA has, and with much success, it raises enough money to ensure that the business of CA is able to continue. The attendance and participation of the Trustees at the Convention and at the banquet is considered part of their job, and the business of CA. At the Convention the Trustees participate in several meeting including the Regional Caucus, the WS Conference Committee meetings, the Unity Meet and Greet, and the Trustee Forum. They are also available to assist with other functions of the Convention.
The line item is in the budget as to ensure, regardless of their financial ability, that the Trustees are present and visible to the fellowship of CA at the Convention. No one should be excluded from interviewing for Trustee based on their financial restrictions. It is not considered a “perk”, nor is it something that is “asked” for, or thoughtlessly “accepted.” It is part of the budgets for the Trustees, and is “broken out” in the World Service budget and is approved by the fellowship.

>Hayward H.: Regarding CAWS 2010 artwork, original artwork submitted to Denver to be used in their program guide, and altered artwork of the logo by the Denver Committee. I believe CAWS 2010 will be printing their registration forms with their submitted theme/logo. The other is modified by a Denver committee member. If you have problems viewing, Richard uploaded the program guide, it on page 36. The following is the caption from the WSM about the logo.
The Cocaine Anonymous logo must be used in its entirety as shown below. The official logo includes the inner circle of the logo that contains the artistic text “CA”, the outer circle which contains the text “HOPE FAITH COURAGE” and the registered trademark symbol. No other text or design element may touch, overlap or show through behind the logo other than a solid color. The block letters “C .A.” may only be used alone when they bear no resemblance to the inner circle of the official logo.
Since there has been conversation that will go on and on regarding which artwork Denver should use, I now need a motion/second so that we can settle this. Randy since this is your region and convention event I’d like for you to lead the discussion. Thanks.

I actually don’t feel any changes should be made, but with respect to healthy compromise, I suggest that we only change the color of the “registered trademark” symbol to coincide with the color of the CA logo portion, thus allowing the over all logo to remain as is. >Nick L.: Yellow seems to be a solid color? I don’t see a problem with the original. >Hayward H.: Questions – Will Wisconsin print their submitted or the modified theme/logo in their registration form? Does Wisconsin have any say so about what goes in the program guide? Should the registration form and program guide theme/logo match?
>Kim S.: From the information that I have gathered…their registration will only be in black and white ($$$)…so it should not be a problem…it will affect anything that they do from this point forward (in color) if the motion passes.
I believe that Wisconsin forwarded the “logo” to Denver when Denver requested it to add to their program…I trust that there was communication. At this point, I don’t know whether or not Denver, Randy, or the Richard has had any contact with Wisconsin… I have discussed it with Registration Chair.
My motion is to only alter the “r” trademark sign…nothing else. Considering the “yahoo” discussion yesterday, this action would be in line with the manual, and also respectful to Wisconsin. I would think that from this point forward they need to modify the logo for future publications.

I would have preferred that only the ® was in white, as to produce the least amount of altering of the overall logo…but apparently this is a better, cleaner, and simpler way of doing it. Is everyone ok with the changes…the white boarder around the whole logo, inclusive of the ®?

As the WSBT continues to address the concerns of the use of our copy written logo, motto, and trademarks on a webpage, and websites, as well as anonymity issues for those connected to the webpage/website, we felt that an article regarding the position of the WSBT was warranted. Most questions/concerns are what our protected trademarks are, and what is acceptable and appropriate use of them, and by whom.
Cocaine Anonymous has the following trademarks protected in the USA, Canada and
European Union:
“We’re Here and We’re Free”
Cocaine Anonymous name
CA logo Hope, Faith and Courage
C.A. (USA and Canada only)
If a C.A. group wishes to use any of the above C.A. trademarks on the C.A. group’s website, The Service Committee for the Area (or District) must have approved the site, and the Cocaine Anonymous World Service Office (CAWSO) must be contacted by an elected officer of the Area (or District) where the group resides with a statement to this effect.
If a C.A. group chooses to be a “stand alone”, mean ing not attached to the Area (or District) where the group resides then the Cocaine Anonymous World Service Office (CAWSO) must be contacted by an elected officer of the group with a statement to this effect.
In either of the cases above the request is forward to the CAWSO Web servant, Regional Trustee, Area/District Service Committee and World Service Conference Information Technology (IT) Committee to verify that the site is in compliance with the Information Technology (IT) Committee Workbook and Guidelines, these guidelines are available for review on the service section of www.ca.org.
In accordance with the above, the use of the CA logo and our protected trademarks on “Facebook” , and “My Space” (and other similar) sites is not appropriate, or acceptable. Additionally we need always be mindful regarding the anonymity of our members, even when they “innocently” are not. Also, we need to b e cautious as to how the public may perceive this “page” and how the website represents Cocaine Anonymous as a whole. And lastly, as guardians of the Twelve Traditions, and concerned members that stand behind the effective voice of the fellowship as directed through the CA World Service Manual, we need to further educate our fellowship as to the potential harms this “page” might have. To elaborate, we refer to the following traditions:

>Tradition 6: A C.A. group ought never endorse, finance or lend the C.A. name to any related facility or outside enterprise, lest problems of money, property or prestige divert us from our primary purpose
>Tradition 10: Cocaine Anonymous has no opinion on outside issues; hence the C.A. name ought never be drawn into public controversy.
>Tradition 11: Our public relations policy is based on attraction rather than promotion; we need always maintain personal anonymity at the level of press, radio, television and films.
>Tradition 12: Anonymity is the spiritual foundation of all our Traditions, ever reminding us to place principles before personalities..
The WSBT’s position is that the use of the CA logo and our protected trademarks on “unauthorized” webpages/websites is not within the traditions, and we are concerned as to the interpretation of possible affiliation, endorsement, controversy, and over all anonymity.
Additionally, we are guided by the long form of the Fourth Tradition which provides in part: “And no group, regional committee, or individ ual should ever take any action that might greatly affect [C.A.] as a whole without conferring with the trustees…. On such
issues our common welfare is paramount.” Also in th e narrative text of the Fourth Tradition (page 147), the inquiry seems to turn to whether the action taken would/might “greatly” injure C.A. as a whole. In that same para graph is the notion that the group’s sole objective has to be “Sobriety;” and “in all ot her respects there was perfect freedom of will and action. Every group had the right to be wrong.”
We trust that an individual and or group who may “l aunch” a “page” on the internet have done so without intent to harm or desire to injure CA, or the membership/fellowship.
As we attempt to educate the fellowship, we refer to our “Statement of Policy”, stated below, from the CA World Service Manual, 2009 edition, page 13, that sets forth specifically who can and who can’t use our registered trademarks, etc.
STATEMENT OF POLICY
Who may use the name “COCAINE ANONYMOUS,” the block letters “C.A.”, the official COCAINE ANONYMOUS LOGO* (hereinafter “logo”), futur e variations of the logo, the book title “HOPE, FAITH & COURAGE: STORIES FROM THE FELLOWSHIP OF COCAINE ANONYMOUS,” and the motto “WE’RE HERE AND W E’RE FREE”:
A. A Cocaine Anonymous “Group” as defined herein, f or its function of organizing and operating a regularly scheduled C.A. meeting. A C.A. Group may not use the name, letters or logo for any other purpose (including without limitation, dances, conventions, memorabilia, or fund raising events) without the prior written consent of its Area/District Chairperson after a vote taken by the Area/District Service Committee.
B. A Cocaine Anonymous “District,” “Area,” or “Region.”

C. Cocaine Anonymous World Service Office, Inc. (a California corporation) and Cocaine Anonymous World Services, Inc. (a California corporation).
The service body granting the use of the CA logo shall be responsible for ensuring that the proper CA logo, with applicable trademarks as shown below, is used on printed materials and memorabilia.
No other individual or entity may use the name “COC AINE ANONYMOUS”, the block letters “C.A.,” the official COCAINE ANONYMOUS LOGO * (hereinafter “logo”), future variations of the logo, the book title “HOPE , FAITH & COURAGE: STORIES FROM THE FELLOWSHIP OF COCAINE ANONYMOUS, and/or the motto “WE’RE HERE AND WE’RE FREE” without the written permission of the Cocaine Anonymous World Service Board of Trustees.
Cocaine Anonymous groups, meetings and service committees should only use, display, distribute or sell the following literature and materials: the WSC Approved Literature set forth in the Appendix, the books “ALCOHOLICS ANONYM OUS,” “TWELVE STEPS AND TWELVE TRADITIONS,” and “The A.A. Service Manua l, combined with the 12 Concepts For World Service,” and Cocaine Anonymous World Service, Region, Area, District and group/ meeting approved flyers, meeting directories and other materials displaying the CA logo as described above.
The WSBT feels that the manual is clear on who can use the service marks, and for what they may be used. Anything outside of that is a violation. Our position in the future will remain as stated above, and in attempt to protect our traditions, will be working with the World Service Internet Technologies Committee to contact those in violation, encourage them to willingly remove the CA Logo, the Cocaine Anonymous name, CA motto, and any service marks on the “page”. If no satisfactor y outcome is reached, The WSBT will then set forth correspondence that will involve a “ cease and desist” letter. In all cases we are faithful that with the proper understanding of the traditions, and the World Service Manual there will be a positive outcome.

Thank you for your question regarding inter-groups.
Currently there is no statement of suggestion in the CA World Service Manual to answer your question. As such, the Trustees do not have an opinion on this subject.
The Regional Trustee for Pacific South and the World Service Trustee (The WSBT has collectively elaborated on your situation), and thus we do suggest in the wisdom of the Twelve Traditions, please refer to we refer to Tradition One, Two and Tradition Four, which state:

Tradition 1: Our common welfare should come first; personal recovery depends upon C.A. unity.
Tradition 2: “ For our group purpose there is but one ultimate authority — a loving God as He may express Himself in our group conscience. Our leaders are but trusted servants; they do not govern.”
Tradition 4:“Each group should be autonomous except in matters affecting other groups or C.A. as a whole.”
Let us always keep the primary purpose first and foremost in our minds. Additionally as we embrace Tradition Two, suggesting that with a well informed group conscience the group can decide what works best for it and what best encourages unity.
If a meeting in question has taken a well informed, well educated group conscience and they have made a decision regarding an “Intergroup” , (to send a small group of members/representatives to a District meeting), and they feel it is in the best interest of the group, then that is what the group desires.
Lastly, maintaining an honest open mind, along with love and tolerance as our code, each member of the group is insured with an opportunity for personal recovery, with no evidence on harmful intent, the process will remain true to Tradition Three.
Shawn, we encourage you to be proactive in this endeavor, you or a concerned member could submit referrals to the CAWS Conference, that might suggest a further look at incorporating guidelines for “intergroup” in the CA WS Manual.

Thanks for your support, but after careful consideration I am going to retain legal counsel. My attorney will review all of the correspondence from the SGPV convention committee and advise me as to my best course of action.
I feel that members of the convention committee have engaged in a process of

defamation against myself and my wife. There have been real threats to my family not the least of which was to deny myself access to the CA convention in Big Bear this weekend. I asked CAWSO about this and they told me that the committee could not do this and that the meetings were open to ANYONE who wanted to stay sober. Members of the committee made direct threats to myself and manipulated the truth in correspondence with the host hotel. Security personnel were to be called and I was to be turned in to the humane society for animal cruelty. This may sound insane to you, but it happened and was documented in the e-mails which were broadcast on the Internet. That alone is cause for legal action in the United States. I suggest you advise the convention committee as to their response.
Perhaps the SGPV legal counsel will be able to inform you of the laws which were broken. I did my best to tell the truth and the fact that the SGPV committee did not check the facts before defaming myself and my wife does not release them from the responsibility of their actions. In fact, it shows their disregard for myself and my wife.

Referred from LCF committee to WSBT – lead Trevor, Lawrence, Kim, “With AA approval add the first 164 pages of Big Book to HFC II.”
Thank you for your referral. Your request certainly raises many issues, and although the WSBT can see the simplicity of the referral in regards to the “logistics” of adding our basic tool to the CA “Storybook”, the WSBT is not i n favor of such action.
The primary reason first and foremost is that the “ Big Book” belongs to Alcoholics Anonymous. Requesting them to change their “copy w ritten” material would surely be an expense that neither fellowship wishes to pursue. Also, Tradition 6 states that “A C.A. group ought never endorse, finance or lend the C.A. name to any related facility or outside enterprise, lest problems of money, property, or prestige divert us form our primary purpose.” Such an endeavor would surely b e affiliation with AA. Next, it is highly unlikely that AA would grant such permission as their book is their primary means of raising money to help the “alcoholic” that still suffers. And lastly, we think every newcomer, and old-timer should lug around as many recovery books as they can…keep them thinking about the program !!!

>Richard S.: I have two concerns with sending out this response this first is that there are varying opinions on the WSBT so while the opinion that “the WSBT is not in favor of such action” may be the opinion of some or most, it is not the opinion of all.
I would like our board to present responses based on presentation of balance and understanding based on the Traditions and Concepts rather than in or out of ‘favor’. My suggestion would have been;

The second issue is the silliness in the last line, I have a grand sense of humor and no issues with humor but I believe the silliness in this response is disrespectful to our member making a referral. An immediate response came to my mind,,, Keep it simple! My suggestion would have been;

We are just i n the process of typesetting and don’t expect the purchase of “HFC II” without AA materials until the fiscal year, so there is no money spent of “HFC II” yet. With this motion we will not dip into the prudent reserve this year. We will run out of “HFC I” if we don’t move quickly. >Hayward H.: The WSO claims they are down to only 28 “HFC II” bo oks.
>Joy H.: Are we ordering hard bound or soft? Does this amount include shipping and handling? I understand that we have to order “HFC I” to send out until we get the new “HFC II” typeset and printed. I know this will not happen in this fiscal year, but in next. Just want to know if this is for hard bound books or soft, and does this include shipping and handling?
