Ira – Advised by attorneys that there is a second set EU Trademarks that need to be updated. We look at all the correspondence to determine if there has been an error.
Questions for attorney:
1 – Regarding 59628-0010 classes, it looks like we need 16 and 35. What do you recommend regarding the other three classes listed 41, 44, 45? Do we need to add class 25?
2 – Does this total cover the entire expense of the EU logo?
3 – Why did we renew class 42 in EU for Cocaine Anonymous and in the US for We’re Here and We’re Free?

MARKER 2009.05.09 Status of WSO – (Ira) – Ira discusses status of WSO. We go into executive session. Questions are asked and answered. Lights are on, rent is paid. Appear to be in good financial situation. Discussed some personnel issues.
MARKER NADCP – (Rob) – It went well. Following our motion to stop going, the WSO and PI committee took the event over as their event, then we rescinded the motion. Long-term we should plan on renewing our participation at the event. We did not give out HFC books, we gave out packages of literature. Felt that was enough. Gave out approximately 550 packages. It adds value to the Fellowship.
MARKER TEC – (Rob & Jeannette) – Going good. Interviews will start on July 1st at 11:00 AM.

-2011.03.01 European fulfillment facility (Suzanne/Rob) Suzanne – Came up at the assembly, but may have lost momentum.
Rob – Perhaps look into printing and chips made in EU to help ease shipping costs would resolve problems. We will look into alternative solutions. We will be removing this item from the agenda and renaming this item to be included on the agenda. New item will be named as follows: 2016.06.01 International Product Support.

Not much to add. PI has put up new survey results. Discussion regarding survey results and being on the CA website. Would like to have live results removed from public view.
-Discuss the Holland translation of the First Step (Suzanne) – Still in progress. Discussion regarding going forward. Will look at letter sent to Montreal regarding changing the translation on 1st Step.
-Selling chips and literature at Hazelden and other venue (Ira) – Ira will follow up with Linda.

Dear WSBT
Thank you for your response, i appreciate the amount of time and effort put into drafting such a response.
I would like to clarify that your conclusion on what it is I’m looking for [We understand from the questions you have posed that you seek a strict interpretation and enforcement of Tradition 5] is wrong, unfair and in my opinion another demonstration of an unwillingness to act as guardians of the traditions [as per WSBT role/duty/responsibility].
The intent and spirit of my enquiry is grounded in love and gratitude for Cocaine Anonymous and its purpose. I want nothing more than to look after this fellowship to allow the baby being born tonight, destined for drug addiction, to be able to find, at their time of need, the same solution as we found.
If the WSBT are unclear of the purpose of Cocaine Anonymous, our principle spiritual aim, and the scope and/or parameters of the fellowships collective understanding of such, may I be suggest you make some time at your next quarterly to consider a workshop and study group to look at our 5th tradition as I’m unsure how you feel qualified to guide when there is a reluctance to answer and the answer given is so uninformed around our purpose.! The WSBT lead by example and do not drive by mandate…show me your are sufficiently informed and grounded with the guidance being sort to be such an example.
So, in hoping that your conscience will steer you toward accepting your responsibility can I again ask you answer the question that you’re putting so much effort into avoiding….that being, does the WSBT believe that our fellowships purpose is as stated below.
C.A. is concerned solely with the personal recovery and continued sobriety of individual drug addicts who turn to our Fellowship for help.
I look forward to your response and trust I won’t get a ‘we feel we have answered the questions in the previous email’ response as after a month of seeking guidance and council of other CA members I can confidently tell you you have not answered my enquiry and in fact put much work into avoiding answering a clear and specific request regarding our 5th tradition and the integrity & future of our fellowship.

When I send a referral about the TEC election process, why does it get kicked to the Trustees? I understand that the conference charter and bylaws are legal documents and not changed by S&B, but the rest of world service manual has is worked on by S&B. The problem is the conference body never gets a chance to change this process. It could look poorly that the Trustees are manipulating the process for their own purpose.

Start considering non-addict trustees. I believe it would be invaluable to have a non-addict brain to give a different perspective.

I am concerned with the fact that the WSBT Chair is given his/her own room at the Conference and CAWS Convention. This is now given even when there is not an odd man out situation. I’d like us to go back to honouring the inverse pyramid please and do away with this practice which makes no sense to me at any level. Please re-examine. Thank you.

Please change the name of Cocaine Anonymous incorporated to CAWSO incorporated to protect the fellowship from potential controversy that may follow if the company was to default on filing tax returns, etc. or possible lawsuits. In the UK, our company was names “Cocaine Anonymous England & Wales.” The company defaulted on its tax returns, as a result, the Company name was then published in the national press (as per English Company law) as a company that had defaulted on its tax returns. This brought the good name of Cocaine Anonymous into disrepute in the public eye. We resolved to protect the name Cocaine Anonymous by renaming our company

is a Fellowship of addicts and alcoholics who meet together to share our hope, faith, and courage for the purpose of staying sober and helping others achieve the same freedom. Everything heard at our meetings is to be treated as confidential. There are no dues or fees of any kind. To be a member, you only have to want to quit. We also exchange phone numbers, and give and seek support from one another between meetings. We are all on equal footing here. We are men and women of all ages, races and social backgrounds, with the common bond of addiction. Many years of experience have demonstrated the value of one addict helping another. We use the Twelve Step Recovery Program because it has already been proven that the Twelve Step Recovery Program works.

I am concerned with the fact the direction of the Trustee Negotiating Committee’s current practices. There seems to be a significant disconnect between the negotiation needed and the needs of the applicable Conference Committee. The trustees have to communicate with the Committee along the way to make sure that what they are negotiating makes any sense and is not done in a vacuum. I could give very specific examples related to the Meditation Book editor process and the contract negotiation for the Conference Contract. In the case of the Conference contract, the TNC took the contracts for the three years negotiated with the hotel and the committee heard nothing again until the contracts were signed. This left the committee in an untenable position at several levels. There has to be better communication back and forth and some concrete time frames on when the responses will be forthcoming all well before the respective contracts are finalized and signed. The TNC has to be and remain keenly aware of what the committee needs and why at every step of the way.

Good communication between the Trustee Negotiating Committee and the Conference Committees regarding contracts is extremely important, this is why there is a Trustee assigned

to each Conference Committee to act a conduit of information during any negotiation period whether that Trustee is on the TNC or not. Communication is a two-way street, and is very necessary before, during and after contract negotiations.
As per the WSM, The Trustee Negotiating Committee assists the World Service Office Board and with all World Service Conference Committees in the review of all contracts needing to be negotiated on behalf of Cocaine Anonymous, involving amounts of $500 USD or greater prior to our engagement on the part of Cocaine Anonymous. A contract is defined as any signed document between Cocaine Anonymous and any other person(s) or business(es), that indicates a commitment of services or goods between the two defined entities.
When presented with the contract for the editor of the Meditation Book by the WSOB, the TNC was enlisted to sign the contract.
The new Conference Contract for 2015-2017 was signed more than one and a half years before taking effect, on Nov. 22, 2013, and was sent to the committee in January 2014. The Trustees on the Committee made their connection to the Committee during that month’s Conference call, advising them of the signing of the new contract. The timetable of events would seem to suggest that there was ample time for additional communication, discussion, debate, and/or amendments, if necessary.
It is always our desire to facilitate this process with the committees to the best of our ability. We will continue to make every effort to immediately advise every committee of TNC approved contracts so that any necessary amendments may be discussed and processed.

Thank you for your service and commitment to the fellowship.
With regards a recent ‘correspondence & response’ within the minutes from the Dec 2015 WSBT Quarterly I would like some further clarification of the WSBT’s understanding of Tradition 5, there seems to be a desire to answer questions about tradition 5 with an answer about Tradition 3.
There seems to be some misunderstanding amongst some with regards ‘an individual deciding they are a member [the spirit and intent of tradition 3] and the purpose of the fellowship [tradition 5]. Whilst this misunderstanding amongst younger/newer members is understandable I believe it to be extremely disturbing when members of our WSBT, and other WS entities/committees, tip-toe around a simple clarification* of our purpose. I ask you don’t confuse your response around the 3rd Tradition when the question is around a request for clarification* of Tradition 5.

As part of the WSBT’s responsibilities it is clear that
The responsibility of this Board is to help deal with anything that affects C.A. as a whole, either internally or externally. All things that may endanger the existence of our Fellowship or limit our growth are of concern to WSBT. [ref;WSM]
By not clarifying our purpose and by continually ‘seemingly’ avoiding standing firm by it the WSBT are, or are seen by some as, denying the fellowship the opportunity the preserve its sole purpose and reason for existing.

So, I request you consider your response based on the responsibility of the WSBT to help clarify an already clear tradition that seemingly gets lost due to an unhealthy desire to put forward a fluffy response that would seem to be grounded in a fear of upsetting some members….surely the welfare on the fellowship comes before the wellbeing of individual members, although understandingly the welfare of the individual member [anyone who says they are a member of course] comes close after.
So, in order to assist I have prepared some questions that I would like some yes/no answers.
- Does the WSBT have sufficient abilities and confidence to give simple ‘Yes or No’ responses to clear and concise questions about the 12 Traditions of Cocaine Anonymous when questions are written in a manner that allows the WSBT to answer as such.

Dear Russell,
Thank you for your correspondence. We respect and appreciate your passion and concern for the Fellowship of Cocaine Anonymous and its continued growth. As the former Chair of the Board of Trustees, we are sure that you are keenly aware, as are we, that the WSBT’s function, as you pointed out, is that of custodian only, providing guidance.
We thank you for your feedback in response to our correspondence regarding Tradition 3. While we appreciate the time and effort you spent formulating yes/no questions, we feel to answer them as such does not lend itself to the spirit of providing the clarification you have requested. The WSBT would never want to be a producer of confusion rather than harmony, and responding yes or no to certain queries could have that result.
We understand from the questions you have posed that you seek a strict interpretation and enforcement of Tradition 5. The WSBT feels that the Traditions contain a spiritual aspect that does not allow for that kind of rigidity. We believe there is no need to respond with a set of defensive restrictions which may have the effect of preventing an addict from finding recovery in the rooms of CA.
The WSBT stands behind all the conference-approved literature. The WSBT supports all the Traditions as written. The WSBT believes that as the guardians of the Traditions it is for us to

help guide the Fellowship, and to nurture the spiritual entity of each Group, District and Area as it reveals itself within the group conscience.
We believe the Traditions, when taken as a whole, can help us in our relationships with each other, with other groups, and with CA as a whole. They are designed to help promote Unity among us, and, moreover, to help us in carrying out our primary purpose.
The future of Cocaine Anonymous is always driven by the Second Tradition which states “For our group purpose there is but one ultimate authority – a loving God as He may express Himself in our group conscience. Our leaders are but trusted servants; they do not govern.
