QUORUM was met.
Motion: To approve minutes of 5/15/97 as amended. Seconded. PASSED.
OFFICERS’ REPORTS
Chairperson: Attended CAWS ’97. Met with Chair of WSBT, who indicated that a joint meeting of both boards (i.e., WSBT and WSOB) would not take place at CAWS, but might be called later if needed. Scott had numerous discussions with members of the Convention Committees. Received and forwarded ’96 Convention Guidelines for copying and forwarding further. Also worked with K.D. on various office matters. Pending: Policies & Procedures Manual for WSO. New: Calculate tenns of all volunteer directors.
Vice Chair: Jeff met with the Conference Committee Chair while at CAWS; discussed orientation of new delegates.
Treasurer: Not present; no report. K.D. submitted a written report re: checkbook activity. Secretary: Not present: no report. Steve acting secretary in Chuck’s absence.

TRUSTEE REPORTS
WSO Trustee: Written report submitted. Okay for K.D. to respond to the African Youth Council correspondence.
WS Trustee: Meredith is almost finished with the form letter for hotel bids. The Negotiating Committee has reached a decision on which firm will provide audiotape services. Regarding telephone budgets for trustees, it was confirmed that individual trustees’ budgets do not include conference calls. Some discussion re: proposed telephone system; IS DM suggested. Attended Conference Committee meeting at CAWS ’97. Discussed orientation of new delegates and trustees, and considered a possible lottery system for new delegates’ committee assignments. There was also much discussion regarding the respective duties of the WSO versus the Conference Committee.
P.S. Regional Trustee: Joe gave a convention update. He met with the ’98 Convention Committee Chair while in Denver. At a planning meeting, Bill Z. resigned as Convention Chair. Three previously submitted resumes will be considered to fill the vacancy, and there will also be resumes solicited from the fellowship pursuant to the Guidelines. In the meantime, the Vice Chair has assumed the Chair’s duties, with help from Bill Z. during the transition.

K.D. submitted a written report which was reviewed by the Board, and fielded a couple of questions regarding specific items in her report

Office Job Description Proposal: K.D. submitted a three-page proposed updated job description for all non-exempt WSO employees, which was reviewed by the board.
Motion: To accept proposed updated job descriptions (Steve/K.D.)
Friendly Amendment: To take up job descriptions individually (Meredith). Accepted.
Friendly Amendment: To separate job descriptions from proposed wage ranges and hours (Joe). Not Accepted.
Motion: To accept proposed updated job description for administrative assistant (Steve/K.D.) Motion failed.
Motion: To table the business of proposed updated job descriptions. (JeffSusan). Passed. Trademark in Canada: Tabled.

Taping Contract:
Motion: To ratify the recommendation of the Negotiating Committee to keep the current tape company for two years (Meredith/Jeff). Passed.
Book Inventory/Purchases: Deleted from agenda. K.D. will research and handle as office project.
Literature Racks:
Motion: To purchase racks from the best qualified vendor (K.D./Joe). Tabled.
Trustee Expense Reimbursement: Tabled.
Motion: To suspend the rules in order to extend time to consider remaining items of old business. Passed.

Treasurer’s Report: Written report submitted.
Monthly Versus Biweekly Meetings:
Motion: That following the ‘97 World Service Conference, the WSOB meet only once per month (K.D./Susan).

Motion: To distribute the “Being of Service ” pamphlet to the fellowship at no cost (K.D./Jeff% Passed.

Projects Completed
-The June 1 Delegate mailing has been mailed out to all registered Delegates. (Atta Girl, Daniella).
-The “Being of Service’1 Pamphlet is complete, and a draft was included in the Delegate mailing. FY1: I inadvertently distributed the piece in Denver without the *Draft* stamp on it.
-The NewsGram is complete and being distributed to the Fellowship.
-The Hotel bill from the Hyatt Denver has been received, audited, and bills have been sent out to the WSOB and WSBT members, and a check has been cut. The Board’s bills are over $3,900, so prompt payment is appreciated. ©
Projects Pending and Status/To Do List
-’97 CAWSC:
• Working with the Conference Committee for a smooth transition this year.
• Investigating less expensive chips (per referral),
• Working on guidelines for groups/districts/areas when dealing with outside accountants, as well as a checklist for filing federal and common state nonprofit forms and documents.
-CAWS ’97
• City Sales Event License – This return is due 6/20. I await numbers for gross sales from the treasurer. I may need a check signed at the first of next week.
• Returned Checks. There were $511.00 in returned checks, $240.00 of which I have already collected. Dan and I continue to work on these.
-CAWS ’98 Bank Accounts – In the process of opening with City National Bank.
-CAWS ’99 Bank Accounts – Need Susan’s signature. I was going to bring it home with me to have her sign, and I completely forgot.
-Phone system for the office – I have contacted several vendors, and am gathering information.
-CAWSO Corporate Status/Missing return – 1988 is still pending.
-Literature Release forms from authors of old literature: Choosing Your Sponsor, Relapse, What is CA?, Crack, 1st 30 Days, Deaf-still to get.
-Tools of Recovery pamphlet – being printed. Updated copyright information will be submitted to the US Copyright Office,
-Correcting the Spanish Literature. Still pending.
-Montreal/French World Service Manual – Pending.
For Your Information
-We received a request from Channel 13, WNET in New York to spread the word about a show they are doing next spring with Bill Moyer on addiction and recovery. I redirected her request in order that the show use CA as a resource on the topic, hopefully list our phone number as a tag at the end. I have sent her a press pack, and will be following up with her later in the year. Nothing was definite, she needed the approval of the producers.
-I am working with a small group in Nigeria in order that a representative attend the 1997 WSC. The woman that started the meeting planned to take a vacation to the states, to attend meetings, and learn more from CA in the US. I suggested she come in August and
