MINUTES COCAINE ANONYMOUS GENERAL SERVICES BOARD MEETING FEBRUARY 22, 1984

I. OLD BUSINESS
A. TREASURERS/FINANCIAL REPORT
Mitch reported that the current balance in the Central Services account was $857.68.
Mitch will have the pamphlet the “First 30 Days” printed for $210.00 per 1,000 copies. Robin could have It printed for $300.00 per 1,000 copies.
Gil mentioned that Mark N. of San Diego had a suggestion for a new phone system. He suggested having answering service with a direct patch to volunteers’ phones. The cost would he 25c per call. The phone system was discussed. Mitch volunteered Tom Morrell to check on answering services for prices.
A motion was made to create a new phone system and not use the answering machine at all. There was no second.
Mitch pointed out that Mark N. of San Diego had asked him for a copy of the Bylaws, Articles, and Tax Identification number. Mitch expressed concern about issuing the Tax Id number, and drafted a letter to Mark requesting an accounting of expenditures and donations. It was suggested that the General Services Central Office of each county could use the number if they provide us with a report, perhaps every 3 months. Mitch will draft n letter and bring it* to the next meeting. Mitch will send the articles and bylaws to Mark, but not the Tax Id number, and will tell him the G.S.0. will get back to him on the number.
B. PUBLIC INFORMATION REPORT
Gil said that the 800-COCAINE number in New Jersey will begin referring people who want to start meetings to Gil’s phone number.
Gil brought out that an article about Tom Kenny appeared In the Herald Examiner today, mentioning him as the founder of C.A. A motion was made, seconded, and passed for Gil and Johnny S. to talk to Tom.
Tom Kenny has sent dubs of the TV spot to San Francisco with their number on them.

Newsweek Magazine will attend a Thursday meeting.
The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation taped Interviews with Gil and Ray and taped a meeting.
Mitch mentioned that he talked to a person at the “Daily Journal” regarding a spot for C.A. and he said that the person will get back to him.
C. NATIONAL C.A. STATUS
Gil stated that he will be sending starter kits to St. Petersburg, Florida.
Gil said that Atlanta was starting a meeting this Friday, and that they will eventually have 3.
Tucson, Arizona will have a Thursday meeting.
Gil reported that he will have the National Directory at the next board meeting.
Ray mentioned that he had sent a starter kit to Santa Barbara. He also said that Hawaii and Scottsdale, Arizona would start meetings.
Johnny S. explained that he had received inquiries for organizing C.A. meetings in Chicago and that he would be checking into it.
D. LITERATURE COMMITTEE REPORT
Mitch explained that he had talked to Francie, and that the ‘Sponsorship’ pamphlet will he ready next week.
The ‘First 10 Pays’ pamphlet is ready for printing. Robin will have the cover next week. Mitch will contact him.
E. OFFICE MANAGER’S REPORT
Ray expressed a need for more people to man the phones. He said that the number of phone calls was increasing.
F. ATHLETICS COMMITTEE REPORT
John 0. reported that the April 11 Lakers Game trip was set up with the FORUM. The tickets will be printed at $9.50 and C.A. will purchase the tickets at $7.50 per ticket, $375 for 50 tickets. To charier a bus will cost $220 with a 5-hour minimum. It was suggested that the trip he a package deal: buy ticket and bus fare. The price could he $15.00 person. A motion to give John a check for the tickets was made, seconded, and passed.

F. ATHLETICS COMMITTEE REPORT (continued)
Flyers will be provided to publicize the game.
John O. reported little success with bowling alloys. A bowling alley in North Hollywood said that Sunday morning was a good time.
A softball game is being held this Saturday.
Gil will check on tickets for Dodger games, opening day or other events.
G. MEETING CHANGES/ADDITIONS
Mitch mentioned that his meeting needed support.
Gill said that the person at Unit “A” (Lou) will accept a flat fee of $5.00 per night, so it was agreed to go ahead with the Friday midnight meeting at Unit “A”, 12919 Van Owen in North Hollywood.
H. C.A. PARTY
Johnny S. explained that the dance will be held April 10 at Felicia Mahood Senior Citizen Center and will be billed as the second C.A. dance. It will have the same format as the first party.
I. C.A. RETREAT
Johnny S. will contact Bud, but soys that everything is progressing well.
II. NEW BUSINESS
A. WORLD SERVICE
Ray suggested that activity be started in this area. It was agreed that he would be in charge, lie should contact A.A. for information regarding their WorId Services.
B. CHIPS
There was discussion about sending chips to other parts of the country. It was agreed that It was a flood Idea, and that It was reasonable to charge 30 cents per chip.
C. LITERATURE FOR OTHER CITIES
It was mentioned that other cities are interested in receiving our literature.

D. OPEN G.S. MEETING
Mitch suggested that C.A. have an open General Services meeting so that all interested C.A. members could observe the proceedings. It will be mentioned at the next monthly meeting.
E. LONG BEACH MEETING
It was suggested that the problems with the Long Beach meeting be brought up at the next monthly meeting.
A motion was made, seconded, and passed to skip next week’s Board meeting.
The meeting adjourned at 9:40 p.m.
The next meeting is the monthly meeting scheduled for Tuesday, March 6, 1984, at 7:00 p.m. at Beverly Glen Hospital.
