CLOSING REPORT

C.A. WORLD SERVICE CONFERENCE 2017 WSCITC REPORT

Opening Comments:

The purpose of the committee is to serve as a resource for the C.A. service structure in areas of emerging technologies. In addition, we facilitate and assist Areas and Districts in approving their local websites, so that they may have a link directly from the C.A. web properties. The IT Committee, on an ongoing basis, works on adapting available technologies to better carry the message of C.A., while always keeping in mind the Twelve Traditions and Twelve Concepts of C.A., C.A. policies, privacy, and security

The WSCITC Committee has faced some challenges, but now we have a small core of dedicated people committed to do that service. We have been working during the breakout sessions on the referrals we got and we are happy with the possibilities that this day and age offers in this digital arena. These are some of the points we have discussed and worked on. Printing on demand and researching the possibilities to make shipping things globally easier. Research the possibility of having a joint database framework for meetings. We have also discussed making our workbook a little easier to understand.

We are committed to, in any way possible to assist the fellowship in use of digital tools for communication and information. Our aim is to support and assist in the growth of Cocaine Anonymous.

REFERRALS OR ITEMS TABLED UNTIL NEXT YEAR; AND ITEMS THE COMMITTEE WILL CONTINUE WORKING ON THROUGH THE YEAR

None.

REFERRALS OR ITEMS REFERRED TO OTHER COMMITTEES; WORLD SERVICE OFFICE, OR BOARD OF TRUSTEES

IT 2017-1 (referred to WSOB)

From Justin C. Florida Area (Pre-Conference)

Establish a (suggested) file name and format standard for digital audio recording of C.A. Speakers. Example: A speaker named Horace is recorded at an Area convention in Birmingham U.K. on 1/10/17 and uploaded may have been given a file format of the following:

-Speaker.1.wav This would be a large file (>600 mb) which tells us nothing about the speaker or the origin of the share. A suggested naming format would be:

-2017_UK_AreaConv_Horace.mp3 By establishing a naming and format standard we can prevent duplicate files and erroneous names. Others could ascertain the who-what- where simply by viewing the name of the file. Using Mp3 compressed audio files (versus .wav or .aiff) would limit size while preserving sound quality.

IT-2017-2 (referred to PI)

From Kerry-Jane G. CAUK (In-Conference)

RE: Cocaine Anonymous Website Template – approved at 2016 Conference

Many thanks for creating and providing the template – I believe our District (West Country and South Wales) of CAUK were one of the first to use it. It’s been a brilliant tool and starting point for the construction of our new website www.casw.co.uk.

The web template currently uses PDF files for the C.A. pamphlets which form part of the literature page. On the literature page, when you click on a C.A. pamphlet you are taken to the PDF of the pamphlet contents. These PDF files can become quickly outdated – in fact, some of the them already are outdated due to changes implemented during the 2016 conference which happened concurrent to the approval of the web template (namely the ‘To the Newcomer’ Pamphlet which means the ‘To the Newcomer’ pages in the template ALSO need to be updated!) 10

I would propose that the IT committee look to amend the web template to remove the PDF pamphlets and instead use a hyperlink/embedded link redirecting the website user

APPROVED – Redacted Conference 2017 Day 4 Daily Minutes Page 41 of 109

to the literature pamphlet content found on www.ca.org. This way the most up to date pamphlet content will always be displayed. It also reduces the admin/house keeping burden on web servants who build District/Area websites using this template ongoing. This was the conscience of our District PI Committee and as such we have already implemented the changes I am suggesting within our new website.

REFERRALS THAT DID NOT RESULT IN MOTIONS

None.
