CLOSING REPORT

C.A. WORLD SERVICE CONFERENCE 2013

WSOB REPORT

INTRODUCTION AND OPENING COMMENTS

Opening Comments

Your World Service Office Board would like to assure this conference that we have heard your voice and, want to assure this body that the WSO is here to serve the WSC. This body will be working diligently to provide an ever higher Ll of service to our members. As requested during our Opening Report, we have provided the 2011-2012 Roger A. Brown compiled balance sheets our corporate balance sheets from 2011, 2012 and 2013 as well as a comparative Profit & Loss (P&L) Statement for your review.

The WSOB has solicited a number of bids for transcription services and will work to produce the WSC-mandated conference transcripts for both the 2012 and the 2013 World Service Conferences.

The WSOB has also distributed a Meditation Book Request Form. In an effort to make sure that we do not over-stock the CAWSO warehouse with our initial order, we would like your help in determining the amount of inventory to purchase by completing this form. We will be sure to contact you when we have the meditation books published – at this time the price is TBD.

We are really excited to have the 2014 World Service Convention literally in our backyard. With this convention so close to our corporate offices, we are hopeful some of you may come early and visit your World Service Office. During your visit you might want to ask if you can volunteer to assist in anyway – there truly is something spiritual in helping prepare starter kits for new meetings or welcome kits for jails. You may never know the life you helped save, but you will know you made a difference. The 2014 Convention will offer this, and many other, opportunities to be of service to our world-wide fellowship.

The WSOB has many referrals we look forward to working on throughout the year.

REFERRALS OR ITEMS TABLED UNTIL NEXT YEAR; AND ITEMS THE COMMITTEE WILL CONTINUE WORKING ON THROUGH THE YEAR

#6870

Please endeavor to facilitate the translation of the PI Handbook and the Archive Committee Guidelines as soon as possible.

#6928

H&I needs small version of HFCII for jail meetings like the Little Red Version of the AA Big Book. Currently, the regular version of HFC II is costly for H&I to take into and give away in the jails and other meetings.

We are getting the mini version of the AA Big Book from the Anonymous Press, (800) 800-4398, P.O. Box 1212, Malo, WA 99150 for around $1.15/each. Maybe there could reprint the HFC II in an affordable cot for all of CA to take advantage of.

#6929

Set up national account with Kinko’s to produce the CA bookmarks for H&I meetings. So that the local H&I committees can purchase them in their local areas around the world of CA. We are able to get them printed at our local Kinko’s and cut to size for a very affordable cost to our Area. As we have found the finished quality of the bookmarks to be of poor quality for after all we would like to be represented as a quality 12-step program.

#7254

Please advise as to the requirement to be a California State resident to be a WSOB Member. Is this a current requirement?

#7263

For transparency sake, I would like to see the minutes for WSOB distributed within 2 weeks after approval to the Fellowship/Delegates versus quarterly as it is now. Thanks

#7264

CAWSC 2013 – Day Four – Approved, Page 102 of 124

Please publish or make available the WSOB online business process. Please explain how often this process has been used in the pas three years. Thanks

#7268

That WSOB and LCF work together to create an editor selection process for all future book editing and publication editing.

#7269

That in the Opening Conference Report, each Director will submit a report to be included in the WSOB Opening Report for each year going forward.

#7298

Please consider creating a Word Document referral form that would be easy to complete digitally

– it is difficult to type into a PDF as such that we currently use. #7299

Please consider creating a Smartphone (cross platforms) app to further carry the message and provide information through digital medias.

#7301

Please consider the benefits of allowing local areas to include a preface in translated HFC books that shares local growth. In the forward(s) section of the Big Book, the message of hope that is clearly demonstrated in those sections allows the reader to understand that the growth is evidence of effectiveness. CA Sweden ask that we are permitted to insert a locally written preface/forward to all future publications of HFC II in Swedish.

#7305

Please create a webpage so members can make donations to CAWSO without using the cumbersome Contribution Program,

If the Office is concerned with the page being accessible by the general public there are multiple possibilities to make the page “hidden” but still accessible to the Fellowship. No link needs to be shown on the CAWSO website, but info about the link can be distributed by fliers, the NewsGram, etc.

#7308

CAWSC 2013 – Day Four – Approved, Page 103 of 124

Please provide the cost and projected revenue for inventory on hand, on an annual basis to be presented at the Conference.

#7314

CA Sweden is intending to translate our WSM to support members/groups/districts and Area in service.

In order to keep the Swedish WSM current with any updates we would require as redlined (or simple list) of all changes after each conference to allow us to make all necessary amendment/housekeeping to keep the Swedish WSM current.

Please be aware that the process of translating the WSM is NOT for S&B debate as this responsibility has been delegated to the local area(s) and WSO.

#7330

Please return the HFC II books back to $5 so our fellowship can afford our lit. Thanks. Love Ya.

#7331

No Office Board member can be the landlord of a paid Director and/or employee. It is a huge conflict and can cause employment issues.

#6478

To add the following language to Fundraising Chairperson duties on page 22 of the current

Convention guidelines:

#8. To provide 2 pieces of each memorabilia item used for convention fundraising for the WSO Convention Archive (work with memorabilia chairperson)

#7297

Please consider commissioning a banner which could be draped over the podium for conference to include our trademark logo and title “World Service Conference”

I notice the podium we currently use carries “The Four Points Hotel” logo which I am sure we all acknowledge this is nothing to do with our fellowship or conference I could ‘imply’ affiliation.

Further-more it would be aesthetically pleasing creating a better ambience and environment to conduct CA business.

CAWSC 2013 – Day Four – Approved, Page 104 of 124

#7283

Can we get guidebook for the conference to save money and earth

#7278

My referral is that the “Hope Faith Courage CA” logo that is on the conference chair table. Be presented in all languages that CA now serves. The French approved version is “Espoire, Foi Courage CA”

All the other languages where CA now serves should be added as CA continues to grow internationally.

#7325

To create an app that is proprietary to CA that offers anyone worldwide to find a meeting, event, Area, or District.

#7342

update LCF guidelines for creation of literature to avoid use of acronyms which cannot be translated (eg H.O.W. and H.A.L.T.)

REFERRALS OR ITEMS REFERRED TO OTHER COMMITTEES; WORLD SERVICE OFFICE, OR BOARD OF TRUSTEES

REFERRALS THAT DID NOT RESULT IN MOTIONS

Questions;

Dan J; Requesting information regarding the meditation book; how many will be in a case of boxes.

Richard L; We do not have that info yet.

Buster; What is the process of ratification of your members. Is it done yearly?

Richard L; It is required to be done once a year – and can be done anytime.

Maurice S; pre ordering – for the meditaition book – forms are on the back of the report.

Derek; budget reflected the increase in literature – our inventory is done – reflecting on budget?

Bob C; Those lines do not match up – spent – the balance sheet has how many items we have to date. We may have purchased a lot, but we have sold it – the value listed on the sheet – it is different, the explanation as to why it has gone done – we got rid of it.

Dan J; Meditation – form – what is the cost.

Tony D; Their report reflects that they do not k now.

Derek H; Back to the point regarding the lines items; our checking account reflects loss as well.

CAWSC 2013 – Day Four – Approved, Page 106 of 124

Bob C; There is a lot of inventory that does not sell – the value on the balance sheet – is the balance as of date. We have just had a higher value of what was sold – bank accounts have several sources of deposit.

Derek H; Trending downward – assets are down – question, could we not have seen this coming?

Alan S; The balance sheet includes the up of 7th tradition.

Derek H; My concern is that the decrease doesn’t continue.

Bob C; We need to watch this trending of loss. What has made the difference? We put aside 75,000 in prudent reserve… Literature inventory is something we don’t order anymore, we print on site at the WSO. We will track this for the fellowship. We are in strong shape.

Gary P; How much did HFC cost per book? Soft cover?

Linda F; HFC II and HFC – ordered a huge amount – cost was reasonable. The current cost is @2.50

Jackson H; We are producing the literature on demand at the WSO – have we track the cost and if we have saved money.

Bob C; We don’t think this has been the best idea – we need to further research.

Gary P; referral – to bring the book down to the $4.95 cost – will they be willing to look at this.

WSOB; Yes

Susan B; You have 22 referrals – made suggestion as how to address.

Susan D; Our course of action will be determined by the Board.

Bob C; Will address – our meetings currently take a long time.

John M; We have an increasing number of international members; would you consider setting up a standing committee to work on the translations.

Richard L; please send us a post-conference referral.
