C.A. WORLD SERVICE CONFERENCE 2013

WORLD SERVICE BOARD OF TRUSTEES REPORT

INTRODUCTION AND OPENING COMMENTS

The WSBT would like to extend sincere thanks to all participants at this year’s World Service Conference, and to the entire fellowship for allowing us to be of service, and for your ongoing support. It is truly a pleasure to serve in this capacity.

The process of WSBT ratification was carried out this quarterly with all Trustees being ratified.

We also concluded the ratification process for the WSOB.

The WSBT would like to send a loving and special thanks to Teresa Neighbors and Barry Jacobs for their service and commitment to the fellowship of C.A.

We continue to be prudent with Trustee expenditure and came in approx. 40% under budget.

The TEC submitted a slate during the first day of this conference although no interviews were scheduled due to no rotation of board members this year.

We are extremely excited by the upcoming CAWS2014 Convention in Long Beach.

We have been unable to address any referrals due to workload at this conference but will work on this throughout the year.

Referral #7246 – not included, but will be addressed.

REFERRALS THAT RESULTED IN MOTIONS

REFERRALS OR ITEMS TABLED UNTIL NEXT YEAR; AND ITEMS THE COMMITTEE WILL CONTINUE WORKING ON THROUGH THE YEAR

#7130

Please provide brief minutes of WSBT meetings. These to be distributed to the fellowship whilst they are still relevant.

#7131

Please desist from producing full transcript minutes of the WSBT meetings. It is understood that there is no legal requirement to produce these and it is a huge drain on time and financial resources. The time taken to produce full transcriptions makes the information contained obsolete.

#7255

With regard to the proposed European literature fulfillment facility/centre. Please to be able to make a “one stop shop” for all our literature requirements.

This would entail being able to purchase not only C.A. literature but also the AA publications as listed under the Advisory Opinions section of the WSC Approved Literature. A facility that does not do this will not meet our needs.

#7322

To change all “CA” owned entities to private foundations and change 501c3 to 509c2.

See attachment for reasons.

  • The would limit legal expenses
  • This would eliminate the 150 mile rule

CAWSC 2013 – Day Four – Approved, Page 109 of 124

  • This would change (increase) member’s ability to donate
  • This would eliminate State mandates imposed on public benefit not-for-profits
  • This would change four tax status and save us money

#7326

Social media is a big part of our lives today. I see our C.A. logo quite a lot! I feel it be necessary to have social media added in to our 11th Tradition. It is trademarked. Anyone can use it without C.A.’s authorization. I do not state C.A. in any of my posts etc. because there are those such as my son who do not need to have my anonymity broken for his sake. I feel that newcomers can misconstrue this and be okay adding the C.A. logo or using it not knowing it is a tradition violation.

#7282

It is my understanding that any votes tallied by the TEC are counted by the trustees alone. If this is true, I would recommend that this process be changed so that there is equal representation by both trustees and delegates doing the counting process.

In Love, Service and Gratitude

Cocaine Anonymous World Service Board of Trustees

Questions;

Duane M; Announce – Six new Trustees came to this Board last year – thank you to Terry, and the others for their leadership!!!!

Suzanne V; re: European fulfillment question.

Russell S; Your question?

KathyJo R; Quesiton is regarding the center – we have 4 locations that we are looking at –

Now that we have approval to go forward, we will negotiate with the centers, and will be able to answer your questions soon.

Russell S; working plan is shows a 23percent savings for the fellowship

Jason L; What have the new Trustees done here? Regarding minutes – this is the end of my 5th year here – and I have asked if the minutes be sent out in a reasonable time period. The ones that we have received and late, and lengthy – we current minutes. I have put in a few more referrals regarding this. Please produce minutes that are readable, and relevant.

CAWSC 2013 – Day Four – Approved, Page 111 of 124

Terry M; Our minutes are current, and sent out before the conference. March and May minutes are being edited – summary minutes have been sent out. They were sent out as an addendum.

Jason L; Feels that minutes are delayed and cumbersome.

Russell S; We would like it to be quicker. The challenge with the transcribed minutes – we can’t afford the best vendor to produce the minutes.

Jason L; It’s nearly impossible to transcribe the quarterly meetings – could be get better, normal minutes.

Rob W; I will make an effort to get them out in a timely manner.
