CAWS H&I Committee REPORT
INTRODUCTION AND OPENING COMMENTS
Thanks to everyone that has worked to make this conference a place where we can come together and take care of the business of Cocaine Anonymous. I feel fortunate to see a new committee come together and watch as members work together to achieve the common goal of keeping our H&I tools current, and creating new solutions as needed. Many of our committee members were 1st time conference attendees. We came together and everyone quickly found the subcommittees they wanted to be part of; each of us bringing our love of H & I and our experiences. The H&I committee is a vibrant and mission focused committee that knows how to welcome anyone that happens to accidently come to our committee meeting….just ask Corrie C. She came in as a
visitor and left as a co-secretary. This committee is alive and fun. It is a privilege to bring forward to this conference the 2013 WSC H&I Committee. Please help me in welcoming our new committee members:

Statement of Purpose-Our primary purpose is to carry the message of recovery to the still suffering addict and newcomer. We are committed to being there for all H&I committees and areas to assist them in any way possible. We will reconnect by opening up a line of communication to promote unity from within. It is our mission to outreach to the existing H&I community in order to assist them with information as it pertains to the H&I Guidelines and the newly added Lifeline.

Reach out to all areas and track H&I growth. Help areas with any concerns and offer assistance whenever possible. The outreach members have divided the seven regions amongst them and will contact the H&I chairs in each region to devise a method to help track the growth of H&I more accurately.
Deborah G Chair – Creative Writing
The purpose of the Creative Writing Committee is to get as many people as possible involved in writing a story of their choice for our quarterly Newsgram. Our duties are to collect the submissions and forward them, along with the release form, to the Newsgram Editor and committee chair.
Our goal is to preserve the H&I Corner of the Newsgram and to share our experience, strength, and hope all around the globe. We encourage you all to take some time to submit your story, to give back what was so freely given to us; a second chance at a first class life.
During the year I reached out through email and by making announcements at meetings, asking members to share their experience, strength, and hope with the C.A. fellowships around the world. I was able to submit stories to Heidi, our Newsgram Editor, and see them printed in the Newsgram.
This year we are looking forward to reaching out to each and every one of you to submit your story as well. What better way to give back what was so freely given to each and every one here. We are all here for a reason, to carry the message to the addict who is still suffering.

Statement of Purpose:
The Correctional Referrals sub-committee is responsible for answering inmate letters and informational inquiries. This sub-committee has set up a system with the WSO to retrieve and answer letters; this will help us to ensure all people get a proper response mailed to them.
The system set up is as follows:
- Letters are sent to the WSO.
- The letters are reviewed by the WSO and literature is sent to the inmate right away.
- Once the Literature has been sent, the letter is then scanned and saved to the Correctional Referrals folder on the H&I Yahoo group.
- One member of the CR sub-committee volunteers to retrieve the letters from the H&I Yahoo group.
- Personal responses may include many different items, such as: Meeting lists, Websites, Hotlines numbers, Sponsorship, information of how to start a meeting, and any other information requested about the program of Cocaine Anonymous.
- Follow up with sub-committee members to make sure that responses were sent.
- Contact the Areas
The goal for this conference is to formulate a plan with the WSO to receive and respond to referrals in a timely manner. Our goal is to clear up as many of the backlog that we can; we answered 42 letters and created a response letter template. We also would like to get in touch with the H&I Chair from Illinois about referrals.
Our overall goal is to have the chair contact the WSO weekly about new referrals and to respond to the letters expediently. The Chair is to check the yahoo group files regularly for any newly submitted files.
Adrien H-Guidelines Committee
The Guidelines sub-committee is committed to revising Guidelines through re-formatting and adding Conference approved literature. Any changes to the existing guidelines must go through the approval process and maintain a proper copy of the guidelines available on the World Website.
The Guidelines are subject to ongoing housekeeping; this housekeeping will be directed at making the guidelines as clear and concise as possible. This sub-committee is responsible for incorporating all changes decided on at Conference in response to the referrals received.

Closing Statements
Fellow members, delegates, and trustees it has been a privilege and honor to serve the fellowship of C.A., and more specifically to serve on the H&I committee. The H&I committee is a low profile yet important committee. If you are in doubt about this, consider the life blood of our fellowship, and consider it without H&I. How many of us came into C.A. as a result of a C.A. panel, of someone from C.A. carrying a message of Hope Faith, and Courage through the open doors of a C.A. Panel, or while sitting in some other institution unsure of where you were going.
I am outgoing H&I Chair, and I would just like to encourage those of you that remain, to continue the work of the H&I committee, challenge yourselves and each other to do what is best for C.A. H&I as a whole, and to always remember that “that’s the way we’ve always done it” can never be reason enough to continue a practice. The reasons for continuing a practice must be based in something for stronger than that. Let us remain guided by the 12 Traditions, 12 Concepts of World Service, and our guidelines as we work to support the outstretched hands of C.A. all over the world. I leave this committee encouraged and energized because I know that there is a higher power that guides us, I believe that this same power will continue to guide this committee, this conference, and this fellowship.
I appreciate the trustee, Jay P that has assisted us. Thanks to Linda F and Sheila S who continue to assist us in getting letters to us from correctional facilities across the country.
This has been a wonderful commitment. I am truly grateful to this fellowship and this conference for allowing me the opportunities to make mistakes, to learn, and to grow. May C.A. continue to grow and spread its’ message of Hope, Faith, and Courage.
