COMMITTEE REPORT

INTRODUCTION AND OPENING COMMENTS

Hey yall,

We have been blessed with one powerhouse of a group. Passionate individuals interested in growing our fellowship one newcomer at a time.

New blood and new ideas have come into play to help us better improve the efforts of H&I around the world. The discussions made in session and instated for the next year are as follows.

• Crating logistics and references for development of what an Online H&I meeting would be like and how they would serve our fellowship.
• Addressing 2019 referrals as well as past referrals needing to be closed out.
• Distribution of H&I literature and formats.
• Collaborations with other WS Committees to develop new materials for distribution.
• Continued house cleaning of our H&I Guidelines and other platforms that use our formats – like ca.org meeting page tab.

• Excitement to see if the body passes the LIFELINE pamphlet for our committees use.
• We had our first discussion about creating a budget for WS H&I. This includes continuing communications for the committee, distribution of approved H&I literature, letters and outreach efforts to inform those in institutions and prisons.

Statement of Purpose:

We are responsible for answering inmate letters and informational inquiries from correctional facilities and/or those who are currently incarcerated. This sub-committee has set up a system with the WSO to retrieve and answer letters. This helps us to ensure that all requests get a proper response.

Goals for the year:

Our goal is to continue responding to the correctional letters in a timely manner.

We strive to answer many more letters and hope to be of maximum service to our incarcerated brothers and sisters. We want to serve our primary purpose through jails and institutions

Statement of Purpose:

Our primary purpose is to carry the message of recovery to the still suffering addict and or alcoholic. We are committed to being accessible to all H&I committees in our fellowship to assist them in any way possible. It is our mission to outreach to the existing Cocaine Anonymous H&I Community as a whole to assist with any H&I related concerns.

2019-2020 Goals:

1. To continue to track H&I within our fellowship by maintaining regular contact

2. Encouraging growth by assessing both our strengths and weaknesses to determine solutions.
3. Compile quarterly H&I meeting totals.
4. To address H&I concerns within the fellowship.
5. To investigate in collaboration with PI, IT and the online service area the logistics, policies and procedures for developing an online H&I meeting platform. (Please note this will be a long term, multi-year goal.)

Guidelines Sub-Committee

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE : The guidelines sub-committee is committed to reviewing the guidelines for housekeeping purposes, to make them clear and understandable as possible and look for ways to improve effectiveness, understanding and guidance.

GOALS :

• Continue housekeeping and review for correct and up to date materials in the CAWS Hospital and Institution Committee Suggested Guidelines Manual. This includes spelling, grammar and formatting.

Creative Writing Sub-Committee:

Statement of Purpose

Creative Writing’s purpose is to provide the fellowship worldwide via our NewsGram with inspiring stories of recovery from C. A. members around the world.

Goal for the Year

We continue to strive in our efforts to increase the amount of NewsGram submissions, stories for the H&I Corner, while timely submitting stories to

the editor on a regular basis. We also will follow up on all commitments from the fellowship to provide articles and are willing to assist in the preparation of their stories. We endeavor to keep the NewsGram in circulation worldwide as it has already been proven that these stories help save lives.

Statement of Purpose

C.A. Lifeline is a service sub-committee of the Hospitals & Institutions Committee. The primary focus of our service is to assist new members’ transition from treatment centers, detox facilities and other institutions into the C.A. fellowship. We do this by providing a Lifeline contact in their local area.

• Inform H&I panels and the institutions they serve to emphasize the necessity of support upon release.
• Distribute the Lifeline pamphlet (once approval) to H&I panel leaders.
• Create a database of C.A. members willing to serve as Lifeline contacts in their area.

Can you please look at both the H&I Meeting Format and General meeting format. for example the Who is a C.A. Member, one shows the Copyright 1992 and the other Copyright

1992-2007 (still 10 years old) Why isn’t Who is a C.A. member in the H&I format? I believe it is important to them to know that C.A. is not a drug specific Fellowship. The reading “Alcohol” is conference approved literature to read in meeting? Can you please look at both formats and have them align with each and current Copyright dates also. tab. These formats have been pulled from the approved house cleaning H&I Guidelines done from 2018-2019. The copyright on these pages were addressed in referral H&I 2018-2 in our closing report 2018. They have since that been updated, sent to our trustee and passed to the appropriate committee to place on the webpage. Our Committee does not handle the General Meeting Format.

“Who is a C.A. member” was not in our H&I Meeting Format download. During committee session this has been gathered from our approved H&I Guidelines, sent to our trustee and being handled by the appropriate committee to get online. No further action needed- Closed

Committee has discussed whether to adopt the reading “Alcohol” into our format. This discussion will be handled throughout the year.

That the WSC H&I Committee work with the Online Service Area to create an Online H&I Starter Kit. The use of digital access to meetings is continuing to expand in the arena of treatment centers, jails, and other institutions.

H&I 2017-1 From Susan B. On-Line Service Area (In-Conference) That the WS H&I Committee consider conducting H&I meetings via the C.A. Online Service Area. Many facilities allow computer access to prisoners, who could join email meetings. Also, Voip meetings could be arranged for groups of inmates where face-2-face access is not possible.

H&I 2017-1 – Response- This referral was addressed on the Conference floor in 2017. We received an almost identical referral this year from the same referral maker. This response is outlined in work to be done and considered for the committee this year.

H&I 2019-1​From Lucas S. Southern Alberta Area (Post-Conference)

Can you please look into collaborating with PI to combine your surveys. From experience I have already found it hard enough to get a member to respond to one survey let alone two. If they can be combined I beleive we will garner a larger response from CA as a whole.

H&I 2019-1 ​Response: The H&I Committee has deliberated on this topic for some time. We believe that some of our questions we have listed would be well received for PI survey and be happy to share them in the efforts to grow in knowledge of the fellowship. Though we do not feel we would like

to combine our surveys, seeing that our goal is to continue compiling a contact list for our internally use only and not for the public

H&I 2019-2​From Dawn M. UK Area (Post-Conference)

Regarding the H&I Survey – in the interest of Tradition 1 and Concept 10 (as you are collecting information which could be determined as public and that is the role of PI committee) that the composition of this survey be included in the existing and/or future PI surveys.

H&I 2019-2 ​Response: The committee would like to clarify that the survey that we have been distributing is for our internal purposes. These are only to be sent out to H&I Area/District Chairs or in the event these positions have not been filled will go to the Area/District Chair. The data compiled is to enlarge our contact list and gain more information as to how we can better our efforts and address any struggles they may be having.

CLOSING COMMENTS

Thank you all who have made every effort to continue reaching out the hand of C.A. to the newcomer. I am reminded often how I am to work for their needs to the best of my ability. Just because I won’t be holding a chair position does not mean my work is done. I get to pass this onto these wonderful delegates that will be back next year. Many new ideas have been brought to us and these things will take time and much needed action. If you have the love for H&I like many over here, come join our

Ian Y. – My question is for Norma Jean – these stories help save lives from the newsgram – can you give me an example?

Norma Jean L. – I am the new chairperson for this position.

Nathalie L. – We have H&I mail and the Newsgram. We respond to many things regarding the Newsgram and it is not our job to distribute the Newsgram. Ian Y. – Whose job is it to distribute the Newsgram?

Trevor S. – It is up to the WSOB to distribute.

Dawn M. – I see in the report that you had discussions to create a budget for H&I in prisons. Have you made a budget and how do you plan to reach the prisons etc. Can you tell me how this budget is used?

Nathalie L. – It is used for stamps, lettering, which so far has been paid out of pocket and we have asked the Finance Committee to fund this. Dawn M. – How much did you ask for?

Nathalie L. – $800

Cynthia C. – Are you updating your internal guidelines or is it the H&I guidelines and would you like some assistance with this from LCF? Nathalie L. – Yes please, we were requested to update and we would appreciate any assistance.

Cynthia C. – Where are the guidelines that need to be updated?

Nathalie L. – They are the guidelines that are on the web that require updates and yes we would appreciate the help.

Linda F. – The world service office sends out starter kits etc. to the prisons, including the Quiet Peace, bookmarks, etc. as its requested from the prisons, and we scan and provide the letters to the appropriate areas etc. in order that they can reach out to that prison and we send whatever we can that cannot be made into a weapon.
