NADCP was held in Houston Texas for the first time this year. We had the opportunity to visit with participants from Texas, Indiana, Florida, New Mexico, Washington, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Idaho, Michigan, Louisiana, Alabama, Arizona, Minnesota, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Georgia, Ohio, Indiana, Tennessee, Washington DC, Kansas, Oregon, South Carolina, and Arkansas.

Follow up to contacts made at the 2017 NADCP Conference continues during the off season Local PI Chairs are charged with the service commitment to contact the professional(s) in their area and maintain a open line of communication that CA is available to help those they serve. Literature request have been filled on the local level. A few mentions: Christi R, Oklahoma City Probation Officer, and Outpatient Program Director, reported how she and her team members are using the CA “Meeting in a Pocket” during sessions with their parolees to inform them CA exist and is an option in when fulfilling their 12 Step meeting requirements. Tim H, House Coordinator at a VA Transition House in Menlo Park, California requested CA literature to go on the house rack with the AA and NA literature they already have. Cumberland County Drug Court Judge, Jean C, from the Superior Court NJ requested CA literature in English and Spanish be sent

to the Drug Court Program Director. They have requested help getting a meeting started in their area. CANJ District Rep has been informed and is trying to coordinate.

The 3rd Annual PI Summit was held in Toronto, Ontario this year.

The North American PI Summit was a fantastic opportunity for the Local Area to meet some of their World counterparts and to learn, and participate in, PI work at the World level. It was also a great opportunity for Southern Ontario to share their strong PI experience with World members and Trustees.

The Summit lasted for 3 days. Thursday and Friday were dedicated to World PI Agenda and committee work. On Saturday the local PI team gave presentations to the visiting members and Trustees. Friday night we had a social event at our local Area Home Church where we had a spaghetti dinner and had a local speaker share, and then had our visiting Trustee, Jeanette J, share her Faith Hope and Courage with us. Saturday night we threw a big party to celebrate 31 years of CA in Southern Ontario. We had our own North Atlantic Trustee, George M, speak to a full house, followed by a super delicious barbequed rib dinner for 300 people, and a local speaker Brian D.

The 2nd annual European PI Summit was held in Birmingham.

Attendees: Caroline (CAUK PI Chair), Stuart (CA Scotland delegate and WSPI sub-committee Chair Euro PI), David (CAUK Delegate and WSPI sub-committee Vice-Chair Euro PI), Yves (CAWS Trustee PI support), Jasper (CA Denmark PI Chair), Greg (CA Holland PI Chair), Jeanette (CAWS Trustee PI), Nadia (CA Ireland PI Chair), Jo (Observing and stand-in minute taker), Neil (CA Scotland Alternate Delegate, observing), David (Observing), Suzanne (European Regional Trustee)

Reports given by each area represented.

Discussion and presentation of the website Bob (CA Scotland) presented the template which has been Conference approved. It has been used to develop the CA Scotland (cascotland.org) and WCSWD(casw.co.uk) website.

Discussion about the plug-ins which can be used including the meeting finder. How areas/districts can change some aspects to suit local needs, this can information can be sent back through so it can help others to create their own websites

Discussion about what should happen next so that the members can access it easily, and which committee should have on-going ownership.

Discussion on the potential of using a Facebook Information page in order to provide a platform for our PSA

Meet and Greet

Hosted by the local area- Throughout the day, there will be four separate presentations. This meet and greet is specifically dedicated to professionals in the judicial, health care and recovery communities, such as yourself. In addition to a question and answer period, literature will also be made available.

CLOSING COMMENTS:

I am grateful to have had the opportunity serve and excited to step aside and see what the next generation of Public Information brings! This is a committee that is extremely talented and motivated to help the addict that still suffers. However, there is always a need for new ideas to take Public Information to the next level.

ILAS,

John O

Trevor S – Questions for the committee?

Ty S – Noticed on the survey, could the Colorado Area name be corrected? Melissa W – There are brackets next to it to identify the geography location.

Paul S – We as the Colorado Area, we would like to not be referred to as Northern Colorado.

Trevor S – This does need to be changed to show the recognized name of the Area.

Tracey W – Where is the survey located?

John O – You didn’t see the survey on-line?

Tracey W – No.

John O – It is located on ca.org.

Tracey W – What is the survey?

Approved Conference 2018 Day 2 Daily Minutes REDACTED Page 28 of 36

Melissa W – It goes out to the fellowship to create the CA Info File that is then given to professionals, Drug Court, etc. Has about 15 questions on it.

John O – With the survey, we can break out any area and provide that info to the area, if wanted.

Johan T– About the survey, the ethnicity question, it is against the law to ask this info in Sweden. Has this been considered?

Melissa W – Yes. This is primarily used in the U.S., so it catering to that.

Johan T – Can Sweden be removed from the survey or could this be changed?

Melissa W – We can change it to not ask for ethnicity if Sweden is selected.

Kevin M – This is statistical, not individual info, right?

Melissa W – Yes, some of the comments could become individual, but those are removed before publication.

Trevor S – Seeing no more questions, please thank the committee. S&B is up next. – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – —
