OPENING REPORT C.A. WORLD SERVICE CONFERENCE 2018 LITERATURE, CHIPS & FORMATS REPORT
INTRODUCTION AND OPENING COMMENTS:
The World Service Conference Literature, Chips, and Formats (“LCF”) Committee reviews, edits, and submits literature to the WSC for approval. Our function is to manifest the expression of C.A.’s Hope, Faith and Courage through the writing of material for distribution. Each member of the LCF Committee is committed to facilitating this work. Literature allows us, via the written word, to carry the message to the addict who still suffers. In a growing fellowship such as C.A., where we cannot always be there to carry the message in person, our literature is a priceless tool to help support and inspire that growth. Finally, literature serves to preserve the integrity of the C.A. message. The LCF Committee consists of members of Cocaine Anonymous worldwide, who have a passion for and about the message we share in our pamphlets and books. Our chips and literature also serve as a significant source of revenue, which helps sustain our fellowship throughout the year.

REFERRALS THAT WERE WORKED ON DURING THE YEAR:
Referral #12788238: A remembrance/Serenity/At Peace key ring or coin for any fallen fellows who died trying or died clean and sober.
Response:
The committee felt that the Eternally Grateful Coin can provide the representation requested from this referral. Thank you
Referral #2375913: C.A. needs a clean time calculator on the world website, if not a clean time app. When I google clean time calculator I get a ton of NA options, but I want a C.A. option. Something that tallies days as well as years/months/days. Some calculators go down to hours as well and I think that’s an unnecessary feature. I’d love to see my days counted up with a C.A. twist.
Response:
The committee referred back to WSO and IT and IT graciously accepted this referral. Thank you

Referral #13241832: I think C.A. should have an independent reading that can be read out at the start of a meeting expressing that it is a spiritual program and not a religious program and that this should be respected and if everyone could kindly and respectively keep their God anonymous. I believe this will help keep C.A. available to all.
Response:
The committee respects Tradition 4. Each group should be autonomous except in matters affecting other groups or C.A. as a whole. Also our reading of “We Can Recover” states “Cocaine Anonymous is a spiritual program, not a religious one. In C.A. we believe each individual can choose a Higher Power of his or her own. In short, a God of his or her own understanding.” There was no need to go any further with this referral. Thank you
Referral # 2699238: Can you please look at both the H&I Meeting Format and General meeting format. For example the “Who is a C.A. Member”, one shows the Copyright 1992 and the other Copyright 1992-2007 (still 10 years old) why isn’t “Who is a C.A. Member” in the H&I format? I believe it is important to them to know that C.A. is not a drug specific Fellowship. The reading “Alcohol” is conference approved literature to read in meeting? Can you please look at both formats and have them align with each and current Copyright dates also. Thank you for your time.
Response:
In regards to this referral, the format committee leader reviewed the readings accompanying the general meeting formats posted on ca.org, and all are up to date. The initial year in the publication legend indicates when a piece was first copyrighted; a second year reflects the last time the piece was updated per the World Service Conference. If there is no revision, then the copyright date will not change. “Alcohol” is an approved reading added to the format in 2007. Any questions regarding the H&I format needs to be directed to H&I. Thank you.
Referral #3055522: A pamphlet about the 12 Traditions.
Response:
The 12 Traditions Illustrated that is in process should be sufficient at this time. Thank you.
OVERVIEW OF PENDING PROJECTS AND PROGRESS MADE SINCE THE 2017 WSC:
Projects currently in process:
Approved Conference 2018 Day 2 Daily Minutes REDACTED Page 22 of 36
- 12-Step Companion Guide: Devin R-F was the lead on this project but unfortunately had to resign. The Companion Guide sub-committee is looking for a leader and will continues to move forward with the project to advance towards the
goals we set out earlier this year. We collectively came up with a format we feel will satisfy the fellowship, being that the questions in the companion guide will be geared towards discussion with a sponsor, facilitate the instructions laid out in the “Big Book”, as opposed to a pure ‘workbook’ style, with questions that may not require as much of a sponsee/sponsor work style, we hope this will continue to foster the principle of one addict working with another and allay fears that it can be just given to a newcomer to complete on their own. We have also voted to include a brief C.A. history section at the beginning as a kind of forward, and currently have committee members working on that. Steps are in process.
- 12 Steps & 12 Traditions Book: With over 30 years of experience of our own to draw on, we have been asked to create a book for World Services Publication containing a series of essays that share our Fellowships experience of the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions. Jason L started the project in 2016 and was then passed on to Erin. Unfortunately there continues to be a vacancy for the lead of this sub-committee. The sub-committee had been collecting material from past copies of the NewsGram, our published literature and World Convention shares/workshop recordings as a start towards writing these essays. The Trustees have been asked to provided archived material of their responses to questions posed to them over the years. We look forward to compiling the experience of the fellowship.
- 12 Traditions and Concepts Illustrated: Ricky W is the lead on this sub-committee to progress the project. This committee will be working with both the 12 Step Companion sub-committee and the 12 Steps and 12 Traditions sub-committee in order to maintain consistency to be able to pull a type.
- Chip Approval Process: Cynthia C is the lead on this subcommittee. The term “chip” applies to plastic and metal chips, medallions and coins. It is the spiritual intent of this Process that it be followed in principle and as timely and as expeditiously as possible. A draft of this new process, which evolved from recent experience with new chips and coins, was included I the SR-14.
- Formats: Vacant
- Honesty, Open-mindedness, and Willingness pamphlet: Justin C is lead on this The committee has been busy working hard on this pamphlet. The H.O.W. Pamphlet draft writing stage is complete. The draft has been approved by the WSBT pursuant to Point 10 of the C.A. Pamphlet Approval Process and is in the SR-14.

- One Week Chip: Seven days is a milestone for the newcomer. Marshal S has taken on the lead of this project. Languages, color theme have been worked on throughout the year. The project is completed with a proto type to review and for conference to vote. LCF will bring a motion to approve chip design, and make it available to the fellowship.
- Revision to the Guidelines: Cynthia C is the lead. The proposed revision is to better reflect actual practices regarding professional editing. It is in the SR-14.
- What is a GSR? Pamphlet that describes the role and responsibilities of a Group Support Representative (GSR) and includes a proposed agenda for a Group Conscience / Business Meeting. Justin C stepped up and has taken the lead on this committee. The pamphlet is at point 5 of the approval process.
- The C.A. Group: Ricky W has also taken the lead of this subcommittee. It is to explain group level in detail and how the area functions with broad strokes from a service perspective, but not the whole WSM.
- Thus We Grow Daily Principles: Justine K has accepted to take the lead on this wonderful project. It is felt that this could be of great help to the newcomer. This subcommittee is gracefully working on providing the correct words to spiritually enhance the person who reads these sentences to provide an instrument of peace within themselves.
CLOSING COMMENTS:
We encourage and look forward to new members joining our committee. Please come and join LCF and help us help the addict who still suffers, as well as support the growth of this amazing Fellowship. No special skills are needed! You don’t have to be a journalist or an editor or even a writer to be a member of LCF. There is such gratitude with our members when projects are making progress and especially when completed. Your service work will be shared throughout the world…what an honor. Many projects are in need of a leader. This is a great way to reach out to the newcomer.
Thank you for allowing us to be of service.
