Session started at 8:15am

Trevor S: Morning, please take your seats. Welcome to the Thursday morning session of CAWS. Please open with we version of Serenity Prayer. I have asked Bart to read a special version of ‘We Can Recover.’

Bart Van Der P – Reads Dutch version of ‘We Can Recover.’

Trevor S: Thank you, Bart and entourage.

–ROLL CALL

Please remember – Full name, where you are from, conference position and number of votes.

Vote: 158, quorum of 105.

Trevor S – Committee Reports, we will be going in alphabetical order. After each committee you will be able to ask questions.

Patrice F — Wasn’t yesterday’s vote count yesterday 158 and the quorum was 104?

Trevor S — It was brought to my attention that I didn’t use the appropriate equation to figure the quorum, and I have adjusted for that.

Justin C — Parliamentary inquiry. Which part of the opening report will be read?

Trevor S — Traditionally they read their opening comments, committee introductions and closing comments. We will probably indulge them if more information is needed to be shared.

Cameron F – presents Report

OPENING REPORT C.A. WORLD SERVICE CONFERENCE 2018 ARCHIVE REPORT

INTRODUCTION AND OPENING COMMENTS:

The Archive Committee has been busy during the Post-Conference period “protecting C.A.’s future by preserving C.A.’s legacy.” To date our archival efforts include:

1. Launched a CA Virtual Museum website – https://cawsarchives.org – to showcase images of CA objects and their stories from CA Areas around the world.

2. We have interviewed 22 C.A. early inception members and transcribed to text those stories for the future possibility of C.A. booklet “Remember When:” stories from the early members of C.A.

3. Continued work on assembling and cataloging a searchable database of all Conference, WSBT and WSOB minutes (1982 to present)

4. Continued cataloging the archive collection into a database.

Approved Conference 2018 Day 2 Daily Minutes REDACTED Page 1 of 36

5. Continued the process of building a historical record of the growth of C.A. Areas around the world. To accomplish this we’ve created an online form for collecting Area Histories. Please submit your Area’s history at: https://ca.org/service/world-service-conference/archives/area-history-form/

6. Started the process of creating an authortivative account of C.A.’s history, as verified by the records in the C.A. World Service Archives, a chronological history of Cocaine Anonymous from its inception in 1982 to present day.

7. Submitted articles for the 2017 & 2018 issues of NewsGram.

a. 2017 – 3rd Quarter: Article published on submitting your C.A. Area’s history via an online form with an example of a submitted history by Southern Ontario Cocaine Anonymous.

b. 4th Quarter: Submitted an article “Every Object Has A Story:” Toronto Area 10th Anniversary Commemorative Medallion (circa 1997)

REFERRALS THAT WERE WORKED ON DURING THE YEAR:

ARCH 2016-4. That the Committee work with the WSO and Convention Committee to determine the best way to reproduce or duplicate the “flip books” for use at CAWS Conventions. Options to be considered are to duplicate “hard copies” of the flip books for purchase as needed or create inter-active electronic version for members peruse at computers.

We have completed this process and have a system in place to create “C.A. history “flip books” which are available for purchase from the World Service office for use at your next Area, Regional and World Convention.

Unity/Arch 2016-1. That the Unity committee compile a file of “Celebrate Around the World” logos (from the first CATW event to the present) and CAWS Conference themes for use by the Archive Committee.

We are continuing to work on this throughout the Conference and Post-Conference period.

ARCH 2016-2. Please create an online archive of World Service Convention shares and workshops accessible through the world website for listening and download.

We are continuing to work on this throughout the Conference and Post-Conference period.

ARCH 2016-2. Please create an online archive of World Service Convention shares and workshops accessible through the world website for listening and download.

We will be working on this throughout the Conference and Post-Conference period.

Archives 2017-1 From Susan B. On Line Service Area (In-Conference)

That the Archive Committee create a catalog of items available to travel to Regional and World Conventions, along with an order form. This would require the creation of a Duplicate Archive, with items numbered literally, perhaps with a bar code, for easy tracking and identification. I believe that these items could be viewed and ordered in an online catalog format which would automatically create a printable manifest for ease of to and from fulfillment.
If you wanted to get really automated, there might be a way to calculate shipping and handling!
Only the best possible examples of original items should appear in the Master Archive.

We are continuing to work on this throughout the Conference and Post-Conference period.

CLOSING COMMENTS:

The C.A. World Service Archive Committee preserves the historical record of C.A.’s World activities. This record can tell us more about our membership, our committees, our procedures and most importantly, how we got from way back when to where we are now, which can have a tremendous bearing on where C.A. going. The Archive tells us stories and increases our sense of C.A. identity and understanding of our global fellowship—all of which helps to ensure C.A. Unity.

We still have much to collect and thousands of C.A. items to preserve, catalog and present to our fellowship. C.A. is not getting any smaller, its growing around the world every day and with it our responsibility to protect and preserve C.A.’s legacy. Please join the C.A. World Service Archive Committee and play an integral part in protecting C.A.’s future, by preserving C.A.’s past.

Your Trusted Servant,

Cameron F (Southern Ontario C.A. Area)

2018 C.A. World Service Archive Chair

—————–

Trevor S: Thank you, any questions?

Tom P: Cameron, is it possible for the membership to listen to those transcribes?

Cameron F: No, not yet. We will be in session this conference and there will be a certain amount of redacting. We are working on redacted version, and making a booklet of how the early members saw and remembered it?

Tom P: Isn’t that more like editorializing than archiving?

Cameron F: Yes. Come by archives, and we can pull some out for you. I don’t want to cause any discord.

Trevor S: Join me now in officially thanking the archives committee. Please, reminder, please speak directly into the mic. Conference committee is next.
