INTRODUCTION AND OPENING COMMENTS
Opening Comments
I would like to thank the World Service Conference Convention Committee for allowing me to serve as your Chair. It has been, as always, a humbling and exhilarating experience as well as tiring. I cannot say enough about how valuable you all are to me, nor thank you enough for all your hard work in making this the best committee at this conference. I would also like to thank the Trustees, CAWSO DOO Linda F and various World Service Convention Steering committee members who took time out of their weekends to attend our conference calls during the year. The work we’ve done throughout the year and in committee breakout sessions will make planning World Service’s biggest fundraiser easier for the next and all future conventions. All our members spent hours going through referrals that were submitted to this committee. We also looked at ways to enhance the current guidelines to better serve our members. Additionally, our members were able to substantiate the 2018 Convention bids, after

receiving adjustments to the CA Scotland bid. We have attached their changes to our report as an addendum. LET THE PARTY BEGIN!!!!

C.A. is turning 30 years old this year I have been to a lot of CAWS conventions. I believe its time to use C.A. speakers who carry the message of the 12 steps and 12 traditions out of our basic text and of hope faith and courage. We are all inclusive thank you so much.

All C.A. speakers at CAWS conventions be a C.A. member who attend C.A. meetings on a regular basis.
MOTION: In the Cocaine Anonymous WSCCC Guidelines on page 17 change language as follows **NOTE** All speakers should meet our Third Tradition. It is suggested to draw speakers from within C.A. Please refer to the Unity Committee Guidelines, “Suggestions on Dealing with Diversity.”
Add new Bullet 14 under SPEAKER CHAIRPERSON on page 17
- 14) It is recommended that all Cocaine Anonymous World Service Convention Speakers should be drawn from within the fellowship of Cocaine Anonymous. Speakers should be encouraged to focus on sharing their Hope, Faith and Courage based on their regular attendance at C.A. meetings, a working knowledge of C.A.’s 12 Steps, and that they carry a message consistent with our Fifth Tradition (“Each group has but one primary purpose to carry its message to the addict who still suffers.”).

Each time a World Convention is hosted by an Area, that area is drained financially by the fundraising activities that are necessary to promote the event. I would like to see something given back to that Area. I am suggesting that if the world convention makes money, that the hosting area be given back $2500.00 for the profits within 2 months.

Referred by archive committee to add the following language to fundraising chairperson duties on page 22 of the current convention guidelines: #8 to provide 2 pieces of each memorabilia item word for convention fundraising for the WSO convention archives (work with memorabilia chairperson)

I worry how well the Conference floor is informed about the host city selection. In my years here at the Conference, I’ve seen this handled in many ways. So that the floor can be better informed and this is not a popularity contest, could we have a 15-minute presentation from each city on the floor just before the vote or how the Convention Committee “certified” the bids of the cities. We used to go over the budget and intangibles in great detail on the floor and now we do nothing.
No Action Taken: We would like to thank the creator of the referral for bringing this to our attention. The WSCCC is in the process of creating our own internal guidelines that will insure the certification of the convention bids prior to conference.

I am concerned having a WSC Convention Committee Chair also be a Committee Chair of a World Convention at the same time. I can only see possible conflicts coming here in instances I can’t even quite imagine. Please consider this problem in light of the current situation.

“It is suggested that any Host Area/Region Convention Steering Committee member not be considered for election to an officer on the WSC Convention Committee.”

Explain the use of just the Twelfth Tradition on page 15 #8 why do you recommend this?
No action taken: We read the Twelfth Tradition to remind everyone of the importance of anonymity as they exit the workshop.

Create H&I guidelines for the convention committee to follow. The flow chart requires an H&I chair, but there are no guidelines to follow.

The unity committee requires the world convention to put on a unity event. The convention committee is already overwhelmed with planning the convention and there are no guidelines in the convention manual to require a unity chair for the convention. We offer unity a line item in the world convention budget, but it is a hardship to the area hosting the convention. No action taken: Housekeeping.

SELECTION OF HOST AREA FOR 2018 CAWS CONVENTION
At this time I would like to call up each prospective host area to present a short summary of their proposal.

John W – Is there any legal matters that would prevent someone with a felony from entering the country?
Roger M –
Calle O – As long as you have a return ticket that is within 90 days…should be fine Kevin M – We are aware and will…(inaudible)
Barbara N – Room rates are higher in Scotland…why?
Roger M – The population is small…basically supply and demand.
John M – If Scotland leaves the UK and the currency changes will this affect the prices.
Roger M – My opinion is that Scotland is going to keep the pound.
Richard L – Quebec, last year, didn’t you lose by only a few votes?
Valerie C – Yes, we lost by 2 or 3 votes

On behalf of the WSCCC Committee, I would like to personally congratulate Quebec Area. I would also like to thank the other two Areas who submitted their bids for having the desire to host our convention. We hope that you will not be discouraged by this process and will bid again next year or in the future. It is a well-known fact that sometimes it may take a few tries to be selected to host our convention.
I would also like to encourage any Area that is considering hosting our convention to please submit your bid for next year’s conference.

Statement of Purpose
The purpose of the World Service Convention is to promote enthusiasm and unity within the fellowship of Cocaine Anonymous and financially support World Services’ effort to carry the message to the addict that still suffers.
At this time I’d like to invite the 2015 Convention Committee to come up and tell us how awesome this event is going to be.
