C.A. WORLD SERVICE CONFERENCE 2006
CONVENTION COMMITTEE REPORT
INTRODUCTION AND OPENING COMMENTS:
The WSC Convention Committee met once during the 2006 CAWS convention in Houston, TX and corresponded throughout the year in the WSCCC yahoo group.
Since the 2005 Conference we have:
Updated the CAWS Convention Committee Guidelines reflecting the changes of the 2005 WSC.
Selected the Steering Committee for the 2009 CAWS convention in Denver, CO.
Selected a replacement Secretary for the 2007 CAWS convention in Kansas City, MO.
Worked with the WSO to request and review bids for the CAWS 2010 convention.
Discussed the development of internal procedures for the WSCCC.
Reduced expenses through email communication.
CAWSO will provide a brief overview on CAWS 2006 in Houston, TX.
Tom Phalen and John Bodkin –Update on WS Convention 2006
Revenue 32,000.00 higher than budgeted. Total revenue 80,000.00( * check numbers)
Ellen Uhlig will provide a brief update on the CAWS 2007 in Kansas City, MO.The registration forms are here and hot off the press. The theme is “Recovery in the Heartland”. We will show you recovery and heart. We are very excited. Basic packages available for 99.00, total package 199.00. Hotel information – Westin Crown Center. It is the perfect location for the WSC Convention. We will do an H and I day. Online registration available with in the week.
We will have more information coming from convention and tourist bureau.

Tony Drake- This is a new process, it was an oversight. Sorry.
There was also a time issue with getting them to the conference and we will fix it online.
Howard Eley – Was it an oversight to leave off the t shirts and bottomless cup? Tony Drake- We just decided to do it as an ala carte item
Tad Smith- Are there smoking areas?
Tony Drake- The facility is non smoking and we have made no provisions at this time.
Terry Marsden will provide a brief update on the CAWS 2008 in Salt Lake, Utah.
We have a hotel in place and have much support in our area. We have a flyer for the theme and logo contest. The deadline is in October and we are still looking for speakers Ruby Lemoine- 2008 outreach chair. The spam queen. I am going to send form out if you would like to add your email address, you will receive information electronically on all world conventions.
We received bids for the CAWS 2010 convention from Milwaukee, WI and Phoenix, AZ. which will be presented on the conference floor. In order to use the Conference time wisely and to allow the members of the Conference sufficient time review and discuss the proposals for CAWS 2010 convention, the WSC Convention Committee will now ask the Areas placing bids to make their presentations to the floor. Copies of the bids are being distributed to the floor for review prior to voting. Please hang on to these copies because they will not be distributed again during the voting process.

REFERRALS THAT WERE WORKED UPON DURING THE YEAR:
The committee received three (3) post conference referrals that were discussed at the CAWS 2006 Convention. Those referrals will be worked on during this conference.
CLOSING COMMENTS:
The WSC Convention Committee is a continuous work to define and refine the process by which we fulfill our purpose as stated in the World Service Manual. We hope that many of the new delegates will join us for several reasons, but mainly because we need new perspectives, fresh ideals and open minds. The WSCCC is a committee that is committed to bringing the fellowship the best conventions that promote enthusiasm and unity, and financial support for the World Services’ effort to carry the message to the addict that still suffers.
We thank you for allowing us the opportunity to be of service to the fellowship of Cocaine Anonymous.

Cynthia Cronkite-The suggested bid form 600, 900 and 1200. Will you provide those details in your bid?
Evan Anderson – I am sorry the guidelines I had did not include those bidding numbers. I will work on it tomorrow and email it here.
Cynthia Cronkite- Some of the host cities are fairly close , for the benefit of the international areas, could you come up with graphics that would include geographic for our int.
Evan – We will try
Stacey Keyes Weston- What was the actuals and what was the actual profit.
Tom Phalen – Approximately 80,000.00 profit. More numbers will be available in our post convention report.

Tony Drake , Yes
Dan Santa Maria- The three bid process does not seem to be online in the guidelines.
David Crossland- I am wondering if you could explain why the low attendance in the US World Conventions. In the UK we have more members coming to our Events. Can you speak to that?
Kathy Jo Rango- We had 690 paid registrants. The numbers may appear low, but there was over 1000 in attendance.
Dan Santa Maria – The guidelines are not on the website. Can we get those up online and in print.?
Barry Haynes- Yes. If anyone has a flash drive I will give it to them now.
Bryan Seid- Does the Convention Committee have any statistical information regarding the last 10 years WSC Convention?
Tony Drake. Yes we have some numbers for you and our average is between 600- and 900
Evan Anderson- We are unable to find the 3 tier bid in any guidelines we have. There were 1267 paid registrations in 2000
Though we believe the numbers were higher including H and I
Tony Drake. The 3 Tier was adopted in 2004; this came out of the issue regarding the 2006 WSC Convention in Calgary.

Bryan Seid- Will we see the 3 tier bid system used for the 2011 WS Convention

Dan Santa Maria – please let us know which Guidelines we should be using to review the 2010 bids.

Chair – any changes made to the guidelines last year will be in effect now. It’s just a matter of making them available, but those are the guidelines that need to apply.

Nicolas Lynn – In the figures in the 3 bids, 600, 900, 1200, and you’ve never had a 1200, does it matter how many H&I attendees were there, aren’t we to be looking at proposed registrants? Is this about how many people walked through the door and paid?
Tony Drake – the budget should reflect the number of paying members. We plan on having more but the budget will reflect paid registrants.
Nicolas Lynn – have we ever had 1200?

Evan Anderson – I reviewed last year’s convention committee and the Motions passed, there is no 3-tiered bid mentioned. We are stuck as to which way to proceed. We are seeking direction. Not sure really where to go with this. Questioned the body, how many think it would be helpful to see the other numbers? OK, we will get the numbers to the body.
