We’ve done quite a bit of work. 3 subcommittees. We’re looking for submissions for the NewsGram. Our subcommittee chair has resigned so we’re looking for a replacement. We’re looking for the H&I contacts at your area/district so we can correspond with the inmates we hear from more efficiently. We have looked at three bids for the H&I piece. Florida had a situation where they wanted to form a committee, but they weren’t close enough to the Area committee. New York, we had an opportunity to send a letter to the correctional facilities to get them starter kits…The message I’d like to send is that we still need to send our book to inmates, however, we don’t see any financial return…we’d like to ask people to think of throwing more money in the H&I collections instead of just a dollar. - Paulette: Do you have numbers from Canada…how many came from Canada? And, if not, is there any way to get a direct link from your committee to our committees in our Canadian areas? Our justice systems are quite different, in pertaining to getting literature into institutions.
- Harrison: What we are trying to create is a database of all correctional inmates that make a request. Get your H&I contact names to me.
- Leon: I’m confused…I hear that WSO is sending books out to inmates, but that your committee is doing that as well. Is there any effort to coordinate getting H&I funds from Area H&I’s in order to support getting this information to inmates?
- Harrison: That would be a good referral to make to our committee, Leon.
- Roger: Copy of the guidelines…you mean there has been no revisions since 95?
- Harrison: Correct
- John: Stat’s on how many H&I’s there are worldwide?
- Harrison: No, not off the top of my head, but I could probably get that put together for you before we come back to the conference floor.
