C.A. WORLD SERVICE CONFERENCE 2022
LCF REPORT
INTRODUCTION AND COMMENTS:
The Literature, Chips and Formats Committee, also lovingly referred to as “LCF” is tasked each year with creating, updating and reviewing our Fellowship’s literature and meeting formats as well as considering any recommendations/referrals concerning our chips.
Throughout the year we are blessed to be able to meet and work together on these projects that are challenging, yet so very rewarding. As you will see, LCF’s work reaches across all parts of our Fellowship and as it grows, our responsibility to meet the demands of C.A. members from across the globe to be able to have the tools to “carry the message to the addict who still suffers” will continue to grow.
Below you will see the projects LCF have been working on throughout the past year and what we will continue to work on moving forward.
ACTIVE PROJECTS
12 Step Companion Guide Update
Elizabeth S. is the lead on this subcommittee. The Twelve-Step Companion Guide has been available to the fellowship for close to a year now, in hard copy from the WSO as well as in a Kindle version. The 2021 WSC passed a motion to update the Table of Contents by inserting a new Section C containing several additional chapters:

The subcommittee has been working hard to finalize the new content. The draft is currently at Point 9 of the C.A. Book Approval Process, with the subcommittee making revisions in response to WSBT feedback. We are hopeful the next printing of the Companion Guide will be a second edition containing Parts A through D.
Recalling the Early Days of C.A.
This short story book that includes interviews with 24 of the first members of C.A. is in the hands of the WSBT for review and possibly could be in print and ready for the Fellowship’s 40th Anniversary in November.

Concepts Inventory Pamphlet
This pamphlet is currently being reviewed by the WSBT and will be included in the 2023 SR14 mailing. Project Lead for this pamphlet is Rob W.
12&12
The 12×12 book project has assembled a vast amount of information from our fellowship over the years, from our archives, to shares, referrals and literature the current subcommittee is working diligently to complete Cocaine Anonymous ‘own 12step and 12 tradition book. Project Lead for the 12 & 12 is Matt L.
Anonymity Statement
This project is currently being worked on by a sub-committee led by Terry M. and this statement will be reviewed by the LCF as a whole during the WSC and the Fellowship soon after.
12 Traditions & Concepts Illustrated
This project is currently being written is will soon be looking for illustrations. It is currently on pace for inclusion in the 2023 SR14 mailing. Jay F. is the project lead.
Service Sponsorship Pamphlet
The 2021 WSC approved the concept of a new pamphlet about service sponsorship in response to a referral from the WSBT’s Long Term Planning subcommittee (now known as the Long-Term Planning Advisory Committee). The draft is currently at Point 5 of the C.A. Pamphlet Approval Process. Cynthia C. has the lead on this subcommittee, which hopes to have a draft ready for approval by the 2023 WSC.
Traditions Group Inventory
This project will be worked on throughout the year to review and update this piece of literature to “modernize” the document as requested in a referral received last year.

I’d like to submit this new PI leaflet ‘The Power of PI’ in the hope the LCF committee will agree to take it up and take it through the new pamphlet process. It’s a collaborative effort from the EuroPI PI and the North American PI Summits 2020 It’s designed as PI equivalent to the New High from H&I leaflet -it’s purpose is to explain some different aspects of PI Service and encourage fellowship members into PI service. It is laid out in a leaflet format, I can send it as a plain text doc if necessary

(Cynthia C., Washington Area, In-conference) Please consider the idea of a Service Companion Guide offering original C.A. narrative content regarding the Traditions and Concepts along with exercises to help our members become more effective trusted servants. It would be intended for studying along with A.A.’s Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions and Service Manual, as well as C.A.’s own service-related literature and guidelines, all of which would be referenced and/or quoted with appropriate citations.
With the Steps having been so thoroughly covered in the Twelve-Step Companion Guide, please also consider modifying the existing Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions book concept rather than presenting this as a separate new book concept. The Service Companion Guide could also incorporated other pending pamphlet/booklet projects such as the Twelve Concepts Inventory, Twelve Traditions and Concepts Illustrated, and potential new projects such as Service Sponsorship, either as chapters within the book or as appendices.
A proposed Table of Contents is included below. There has been some informal discussion of doing a separate book or workbook on the Concepts, but I think combining them with the Traditions is the best way to bring them to the attention of members who might not otherwise realize how much they can benefit from studying the Concepts. The steering of the Monday night 12×12 meeting, south central district feels that the wording “just don’t use or drink – no matter what” should be removed from the Tools of Recovery pamphlet. It is felt that this phrase could be a misrepresentation of the message of recovery as outlined in the Big Book. As such, it could be misinterpreted by the newcomer

(S&B to LCF)
In 2021, S&B received a referral regarding gender neutral language in the WSM. A subcommittee was formed, and has been working on the referral. The subcommittee wrote motions to Cocaine Anonymous more gender neutral in all areas of print. The motions we wrote would impact LCF. So, we are referring the motions that we made, and including a copy of the original referral. The S&B committee asks that you consider the following motions as relates to the original attached referral.
Motion that any existing books published by Cocaine Anonymous takes great consideration in being gender neutral, when the time comes for reprinting. Motion to make meeting formats and pamphlets gender neutral, excluding readings that Cocaine Anonymous doesn’t hold the rights to/not published by Cocaine Anonymous. (reach out to LCF, office board, trustees, H&I, and potentially finance, to follow SR13) all subcommittees Motion to make all future and reprinted literature published by Cocaine Anonymous gender neutral, excluding literature that Cocaine Anonymous doesn’t hold the rights to/not published by Cocaine Anonymous, and/or personal stories as submitted by members.

I would like to propose that a leaflet be created that is like the principles of the steps but the principles behind the traditions. I have attached an example although the principles would have to be agreed on as they differ from fellowship to fellowship

I would like to suggest breaking up each step in the new step working companion booklet by inserting sections, or headings for different ideas or thoughts within each chapter. I have used the step working companion guide with sponsees, and it’s been a great tool, but I find it hard to go through each step almost without pause. The addition of headings or sections would be a great queue for each sponsor and Sponsee to pause and discuss.

Make a Social Media pamphlet outlining how we can use social media and still follow our traditions on anonymity. The does and don’ts and how to use it. For example, don’t check in on a meeting and don’t tag people on Facebook. And the proper use of photos. Please see the attached conference approved presentation for your consideration.

I remain concerned that in the translation of our approved literature, in this instance, A Quiet Peace, into another language that there were changes made to that work without any involvement by LCF or sign off. The changes made on at least one meditation was a complete rewrite of one day’s meditation. As a member of LCF involved in the authoring and assembly of this book, where we struggled with every comma and quote, this practice seems not aligned with LCF’s or the Conference’s charge. Plus it sets a really bad precedent for future translations.
To me, literature translation and the sales of that product/publication needs to be about preserving the piece not making money.
I’d like to see the WSOB work with LCF to come up with an agreeable solution please.

Could LCF please reconsider my request for the attached “Anonymity Statement” to be made available to all of our membership by approving it as a suggested “Anonymity Statement” to be read at meetings and available to download from the CA.org website.
To clarify the response (*see below for copy of your response), that I feel is inadequate and unsatisfactory, and also ill considered, that there already exists literature that covers this topic, I believe this to be incorrect. Existing Anonymity Statements that I can see speak only to the 11th Tradition around anonymity at the level of press, radio, television and film.
The anonymity statement I’ve submitted speaks to the spiritual practices of conduct around anonymity in meetings and the spirituality of anonymity, as mentioned in Tradition 12. It is a beautiful reading full of sentiment and suggestion for appropriate spiritual behaviour at our meetings and outside.
By introducing this as a reading to be read in meetings around the world will only make our meetings a safer and kinder place to attend and share.
I respectfully request you reconsider the submission of this Anonymity Statement as a reading available to this meeting that wish to have a CA standard Anonymity Statement to be read during our meetings.

The Home group members of the Hackbridge Tuesday meeting in England would like to make an addition to the questions asked on the ‘Traditions Group Inventory’ re: Tradition 10.
This currently reads…
‘Tradition 10: Cocaine Anonymous has no opinion on outside issues; hence the CA name ought never be drawn into public controversy. Am I ever mindful that Cocaine Anonymous has no opinion on outside issues, especially when I share my personal experiences concerning treatment centers, churches, hospitals, jails, and my opinions about such topics as alcohol, legalizing marijuana, religion, etc.? Do I understand that if Cocaine Anonymous expressed any opinions on outside issues, it could create exclusion and controversy? Do I make every effort not to breach this tradition, even in the slightest way? Do I continually remind myself that I cannot control anyone’s thinking or beliefs, especially other addicts, sponsees, etc.?
At the group level, do I refrain from expressing my opinions on outside issues?’
We would like to see the first question read as….
‘Am I ever mindful that Cocaine Anonymous has no opinion on outside issues, especially when I share my personal experiences concerning treatment centers, churches, hospitals, jails, and my opinions about such topics as alcohol, legalizing marijuana, religion, prescription medication etc.?’
The addition being the words ‘prescription medication’.

CLOSING COMMENTS:
I am in awe of the ability of this Fellowship and of this committee to continue to adapt to meet the needs of this ever-changing and growing membership. We are still so young and
with the addition of all of our new Areas and their members, the hunger for the program and its literature is substantial.
The importance of translations and our ability to embrace digital content is, in my humble opinion, one of the key factors in C.A.’s ability to continue to effectively carry out our Primary Purpose.
LCF will continue to work to create and amend C.A.’s literature where needed as our Fellowship grows and changes and we have a large slate of work to do over the next year and the years that follow. I look forward to the challenges that lie ahead.
C.A. saved my life and the lives of everyone I have met and I am pretty sure everyone in these rooms that I have not met. For that reason, I am willing to do anything this Fellowship asks of me. It’s the least I can do.
