OPENING REPORT C.A. WORLD SERVICE CONFERENCE 2014
ARCHIVES REPORT
INTRODUCTION AND OPENING COMMENTS:
The Archive Committee has had a rockin’ year! Those of us that live in the Pacific South Region, met at the World Service Office roughly every six weeks since the last Conference to work on organizing and cataloging the C.A. Archive. If you look on pages 4 & 5 in the NewsGram included in you registration package, you’ll see for yourself some of what we’ve accomplished. We have worked throughout the year to continue to protect and preserve C.A. history. We’ve uncovered treasurers – a 10” reel-to-reel tape of the “Whatever Meeting” lead by Johnny Segal that is now on CD. A letter written by 2 members, claiming that the words “and all other mind-altering substances” were never conference-approved, original prototype chips from the Chicago Area, just to name a few.
We were delighted to curate and presented our first display of C.A. Archived Memorabilia with the support of the 2014 CAWS Convention Committee. Committee member, Henry A created the flip books, 2 of which are on display in the Conference Office. He also constructed the lattice boards for the display of T-shirts, Maps, posters, and other items. We acquired display materials that can travel – the traveling display case is in the office along with a small display of archived items.
Based on the feedback we got from the Convention, we have initiated a new archive sub-committee-the Digital Committee, responsible for photographing and scanning archive items for
CAWSC 2014 – Day Two Redacted Approved , Page 1 of 21
use in a digital traveling display of tutorials and items of interest, to make it easier for Regional and Area Conventions to display archive items.
A number of interviews were conducted by members, Frank P – our new World Service Office Liaison and Cameron F-our Outreach Committee Chair.
COMMITTEE INTRODUCTIONS:
None of this would have been accomplished without the constant support of our Trustee, Russell S; C. A. Director of Operations and avid supporter, Linda F, former committee vice-chair, Frank P, who was absconded with by the World Service Office Board. He is now our WSO Liaison; Norma Jean S, our energizer bunny of a secretary, Cameron F, Outreach Chair and anarch…, I mean Archive officianado from Ontario, Canada; Henry A, the smartest handyman ever: our ad hoc members: Dwight J, our Commemorative Chip dude and Steve A; returning members Dot T, an original member of the Archive Committee, Dianne F, Sharon H, our scanning queen; and finally new members who came on board during the year: Tim A, Jerry M and Jay H.
REFERRALS THAT WERE WORKED ON DURING THE YEAR:
I honestly can’t remember if we worked on any referrals during the year. If we did, chances are that I made the darn thing anyway!
