CLOSING REPORT C.A. WORLD SERVICE CONFERENCE 2018

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY REPORT

INTRODUCTION AND OPENING COMMENTS

Opening Comments

This has been a humbling and exhilarating experience for us. We cannot say enough about how grateful we are for this opportunity to do necessary work for the fellowship as a whole. We especially would like to thank all members of our committee, the members from the fellowship giving us great support, referrals, comments and cheers.

CAWS ITC statement of purpose starts with:

The purpose of the committee is to serve as a resource for the C.A. service structure in areas of emerging technologies. In addition, we facilitate and assist Areas and Districts in approving their local websites.

This makes our work broad and inclusive, just like our fellowship. We have included work spanning from Printing on demand, online templates, apps and website templates. It is interesting work indeed.

Seconded

Trevor S – This was sent out in SR-14. Has this changed since then?

George M – No

Trevor S – Are there any objections to not reading into the mic? Yes

Approved – Redacted Conference 2018 Day 4 Daily Minutes Page 49 of 128

Trevor S — Started to read it into the mic

Henry A – Parliamentary Inquiry – Is it possible to motion to skip the reading?

Trevor S – Out of order as it is no possible to un-read something once it has been read. (continues to read into the mic) Does the maker wish to speak to your motion?

George M – Not at this time.

John B – I am confused. It seems that says the trustee needs to approve anything that goes on an local website?

George M – Yes

John B – Is that new?

George M – No.

Trevor S – No, this has been there for a long time.

John B – Opps.

Jason L – I noticed it says ‘we are grateful for all links.’ It is nice that we want as many people to see this as possible, but can we take out the word all?

George M – That part is not actually new language. That is not something we are addressing with this motion.

Kevin M – The language in 1 and 3 that remains has been there for a very long time. I like the ‘all links.’

Susan B – Should our trademark phrase, ‘We’re Here and We’re Free’ be included in this document as well?

Trevor S – That should be referred to the WSBT.

George M – All of this is basically housekeeping.

Randy M – What was stated before was that all these disclaimers had to be at the bottom of each page, this now shortens all that and puts all the disclaimers on a separate page with a link to said page at the bottom of each page. Hope that clarifies the intent.

Trevor S – Prepare to vote.

Clicker Vote 16 – 137 for, 4 against, motion passed

REFERRALS OR ITEMS TABLED UNTIL NEXT YEAR; AND ITEMS THE COMMITTEE WILL CONTINUE WORKING ON THROUGH THE YEAR

IT 2018-2 From Kerry-Jane G. CAUK Area (In-Conference)

I created this document as when constructing our Districts (West Country and South Wales District of CAUK) website www.casw.co.uk, I struggled with the approval guidelines as laid out in the ITC guidelines (and PI handbook as the information is currently duplicated there).

As a result, our CAUK delegates had not been aware of the WCSWD website launching due to me misinterpreting the guidance.

I believe this document (or something similar) might help and be a useful starting point/addition to the ITC Guidelines?

CApp

The WSCIT Committee is looking for your ideas and input on the creation of a Cocaine Anonymous Mobile Application. If anyone is interested in submitting ideas or helping with creating the application, please have them send an email to itcommittee@ca.org

We have a list of ideas from referrals and committee work on what content may be available within the application. This list includes:

● Sobriety Calculator (referral) ● 12 Traditions
● Find a meeting (referral) ● Vision for you
● Pre-amble ● Reaching Out
● Who is a Cocaine Addict? ● Meeting Formats
● We Can Recover ● Link to CA.org
● Serenity Prayer ● Find events: district,   area, or
● 12 Steps international

wordpress and database

The WSCIT Committee would like to include the following items on the wordpress temple and the database:

  • Readings and meeting formats
  • Read only pamphlets
  • Clean time calculator
  • Meeting in a pocket
  • A function where areas could input their local meetings (time/area/location/meeting type)

REFERRALS OR ITEMS REFERRED TO OTHER COMMITTEES; WORLD SERVICE OFFICE, OR BOARD OF TRUSTEES

IT 2018-1 From Carey T. CAUK Area (In-Conference) (referred to WSOB)

A member has come to me, as the IT Chair for CAUK. and asked for this proposal to be put forward as a referral:

Approved – Redacted Conference 2018 Day 4 Daily Minutes Page 51 of 128

That the Quiet Peace reading for the day be displayed on the ca.org website in a prominent location, so people can read it from the website.

The member felt that other members (and newcomers) would benefit from having this available. I explained to him that he would have to make this a referral, since it involves a change to the WSM and the IT workbook. The website was not working for him, so I am making it in his place.

COMMITTEE WORK – REFERRED TO THE WSOB

PRINTING ON DEMAND

The IT-Committee has during the last year has been working on a few issues under this topic and would now, with a warm hand refer this to the World Service Office Board. To clarify we would like to transfer the management of these issues to the WSOB. We do however make us available for any and all questions or help that the WSOB may require.

The issues we have discussed has been as follow.

Template for pamphlets – We have with a few people from the fellowship that has made printable templates for pamphlets that has been presented to the WSOB.

Literature for printing, We believe that a service of Printing On Demand for HFC, HFC II and AQP and distribution of the same would potentially be beneficial for the fellowship.

Chips and memorabilia storage and distribution, We believe that a service of this kind would potentially be beneficial for the fellowship.

CLOSING COMMENTS

We are committed to, in any way possible to, assist the fellowship in use of digital tools for communication and information. Our aim is to support and assist in the growth of Cocaine Anonymous.

The WSCIT Committee is looking for your ideas and input on the creation of a Cocaine Anonymous Mobile Application. If anyone is interested in submitting ideas or helping with creating the application, please have them send an email to itcommittee@ca.org

Respektfullt ingiven:

Johan T, Chair

Trevor S – Questions for the committee?

Jason L – Thanks for your work. Where is the committee at with the database? When might it might be available?

Johan T – Last conference that passed, we started to assist WSOB to create an app and allowed us to start. During the year, we have created the database. It needs to be tested still, but will assist with things like a ‘find a meeting’ app. The database could be used by Areas and they could load up info on their meetings to it, then that info goes into apps utilizing the database.

Jason L – Where are you at? Is there a timeline of when it will be available.

Johan T – We are testing it now and doing a website in Kenya as they only have 3-4 meeting. Also working with the ca.org webmaster. We have no timetable on that yet. 2-4 months probably.

Kevin M – I figure this has been discussed with Cameron, you are using industry standards for the database?

Johan T – Yes

Jason L – Good to know we have meetings in Kenya, that database will be good for that. Will it be the area’s responsibility to update their info, not the WSO?

Johan T – Yes, it will be the Area’s responsibility to keep their info updated.

Trevor S – Seeing no further questions, please thank the committee. LCF will be next.
