CONCEPT ELEVEN was read by Susan

  • Joe Stephens, Pacific South Regional Trustee

QUORUM was met

VISITORS: Gretchen Delaney, Chair of CAWS ’98 Spending Committee

Discussion of minutes of November 13,1997: both Secretary and tape are unavailable. Consensus of Board is that minutes are accurate as proposed. Motion (Jeff) to approve minutes as submitted. Motion carried.

Motion to approve proposed minutes of January 8,1998 as corrected (Joe). Motion carried.

OFFICER’S REPORTS

Chairperson: Scott reported that the office operations continue on track. He has received and reviewed resumes submitted to date, and forwarded copies to Joe and Meredith (subcommittee members). Report on CAWS ’98 receipts and disbursements through January 31,1997 is completed and forwarded to the committee. Scott is also working with committee members on the program for CAWS ’98 registration. Scott has also received numerous recommendations and questions from the CAWS ’98 committee, and has answered them in a loving and tolerant manner. He also attended the Trustee meeting, and answered their questions regarding the operations of the WSO in a loving and tolerant manner.

Vice Chair: Jeff continues to stop by the office frequently and notes that everything seems to be running smoothly. He also accompanied Scott to the Trustee meeting.

Treasurer: Ed was not present Scott reported that the bills are being paid, and that CAWSO is financially solvent. The report to the accountant should go out next week. He hopes to have a completed financial statement by March.

Secretary: Chuck was not present

Director at Large: Steve reported on the status of the Newsgram, in his capacity as acting editor. Should have a completed draft next week, though no submissions relating to the Seventh Tradition are available. Steve also advised the board that he will be out of town on the dates of the next two board meetings.

TRUSTEE REPORTS

P.S. Regional Trustee: Joe reported that the Unity Breakfast held on January 31,1998 was a resounding success. More than 200 people attended, speakers were great, and more than $1800.00 was raised. There was a Convention planning meeting afterward. Tickets for the CAWS ’98 opportunity drawing have been distributed.

WSO Trustee: Susan submitted a written report regarding referrals from the Trustees to the WSO; she elaborated on certain items and answered questions. The contract with the Milwaukee hotel is still not signed, as a final draft has not yet been received from the hotel.

WS Trustee: Meredith was not present.

OFFICE REPORT

Scott reported that chip and literature orders are going out within three business days of receipt.

No complaints received regarding office operations. Need to renew the long distance contract with AT&T. Our Directors and Officers insurance is up for renewal. One office employee was on medical leave for two weeks; she has now returned and is feeling better.

OLD BUSINESS

No old business.

NEW BUSINESS

Newsoram Theme: The consensus of the Board was to ratify Steve’s recommendation that the theme of the second quarter Newsgram should be CAWS ’98, deferring the Seventh Tradition as the theme for the third quarter. Noted that Andy should be given the opportunity to review a draft of the Newsgram before it goes to print Steve asked that Trustees (or anyone else) submit articles regarding the Seventh Tradition for the third quarter issue.

Search for New Office Manager: Scott reported that the subcommittee will meet either in person or via conference call next week.

Missing Board Member: Scott reported that he has spoken with Chuck, who for personal reasons has been unable to attend any board meetings since November. It seems likely that the same personal reasons may continue to prevent Chuck’s attendance. Steve indicated that, though he was willing to continue to be of service as long as he was needed, he has done his time as recording secretary for other service committees of CA and has no desire to assume the remaining 18 months of Chuck’s term. Scott will call Chuck within the next week to further discuss his intentions.

Convention Liaison: Scott introduced Gretchen to the Board; she indicated that she may be available to fill the position of Convention Liaison recently vacated by Lenny.

Scott advised the Board that the next scheduled meeting will be on February 26,1998 at 7:30 p.m.

Motion: To adjourn at 8:55 p.m. {Steve). Motion CARRIED.

MEETING ADJOURNED at 8:55 p.m. with the Lord’s Prayer.

Respectfully submitted,

Stephen D. Edwards

Reluctantly Acting Secretary
