BOARD MEETING – JULY 9, 1987 MINUTES

The meeting was called to order by Coco at 7:30 PM with the Serenity Prayer,
Helene read the minutes of the Board Meeting of June 25, 1987.
Motion to accept minutes as read with corrections. Motion seconded and carried.

TREASURER’S REPORT – LINDA H.
Linda was approached by LA-CA for assistance in their accounting problems. She asked the board if there would be a conflict in interest and was told there would be no problem with her assisting them.
Starting balance – June 1, 1987 – $5307.78
income June, 1987 – 4834.99
expenses June 1987 – 4078.07
Balance June, 1987 – 6064.70
Linda was asked to split the expenses more thoroughly for the conferences in July of 1986 and March of 1987 to differentiate old board expenses and the trustee expenses.
RAY G. – TRUSTEE’S REPORT
- Articles of Incorporation signed for the CAWS , Inc.
- Reggie is Chairperson of the Connection and the Newsgram Committees. The Trustees would like a review board set up to review each Connection and Newsgram prior to printing. It was also suggested that the Connection need a large “push” amongst the fellowship for stories to cover the positive aspects of recovery in the fellowship of Cocaine Anonymous.
- Newsgram – Hotlines are not hotlines. They are to be listed as information numbers. Correct that Newsgram to show that each Corporation is listed separately (i.e. CAWS, CAWSO). Correct that Ray is a Trustee of C.A.W.S.Inc.
- Letter from A.A. to accept the 12 concepts is missing.
- Would like the Directors involved with a conference committee of their choice.
- San Francisco, Chicago, Los Angeles fact files to be combined and sent out with starter kits.
- Condensed version of the minutes will be placed in the Newsgram. Minutes should no longer be sent out unles requested.
- Check what the charges were for the Public Service Announcements.

COMMITTEE REPORTS
Conference Committee – Greg T.
- The conference will be held November 13, 14, 15. It will begin Friday afternoon
- A hotel liason will search for a hotel near LAX with no charge to the CAWSO.
- Forms will be sent out to all states to find out who will be attending, number of votes,
- Reggie suggested that Greg assume Temporary Chairperson position of this committee
Connection – Bruce McC.
Bruce did not attend this meeting. A review board has been set up for the Connection through the Trustees. This review board will include Reggie L., H. Lee, Bruce McC., Jim G.
Newsgram – Report by Steve P.
- Letterhead – velox for CA Logo would cost $150 per 10 velox’s (a Velox is the logo in different sizes) to be available to us for printing of anything. Motion: to accept cost for Velox’s. Seconded and carried.
- Separate meeting of editors to make corrections on Newsgram to take place prior to each printing.
- Subscription of the Connection to include a copy of the Newsgram. Editors of both the Newsgram and the Connection are in favor of this.
- Review board set up for Newsgram to include Reggie, CAWSO, Jim G.
- Member of the Committee or Jim to bring Newsgram for review on the 1st Thursday of the month and then attend on the 4th Thursday for approval.
World Directory – Neil B.
Neil stated that the directory is completely entered into the computer and needs to be reviewed for errors. Helene and Linda will work on this as well as discussing a possible new format.
Chips and Literature – Cory
- At this time Cory will chair this committee. She will enter all orders into the computer, make up receipts for monies received, order the chips and literature, make deposits ready.
- Discussion: What is needed to get this job done smoothly? Ken B. was asked if he would be willing to assist Cory for the time being and he has agreed to do so. Discussion of having someone come in twice weekly to assist Cory in getting the orders out on time took place. Board members will keep an ear open for any volunteers,
- Steve P. contacted Wendells regarding the metal chips. He was informed that it would take approximately 4~6 weeks for delivery. It was suggested that we buy 1000 chips to begin with and then determine our needs as we go along.

OLD BUSINESS
- Cory was once again reminded who her “Bosses” are. She was reminded that her work order should be as follows: Trustees, Board of Directors. Any work for any of the committees through this office can be done only after her work for the Trustees and the Board is completed should she have the time.
- A check in the amount of $322.67 was issued to Farmers Insurance to begin office package policy.
- Linda is still going to follow up on the lease.
NEW BUSINESS
- All were informed that the check book and the computer must remain in the office at all times. Linda was given the permission to take the computer home once monthly to handle the bank statements and financial reports.
- Cory informed us that one of the “Hot Files” that were to be hung for messages was stolen from the office. Cory will purchase another.
- Correspondence from Bernie Gans was received regarding Dr. Baron and the trademark issue. Dr. Baron has not agreed to cancel his trademark filing, therefore, he was given 30 days to respond to a petition to cancel. Mr. Gans expects* Dr. Baron to default on this issue.
- File cabinet locks need to be replaced. All locks on the doors will also be replaced. The Trustees and the Board Members will have keys. Any committee member wishing to get into the office to work will be able to borrow a set of keys which will have to be returned to Cory the next day. (stamped DO NOT DUPLICATE).
- Literature: all literature will carry only the World Service address and phone numbers. All areas will be responsible for placing their own phone numbers and addresses on the literature they purchase.
- Orange County was represented at this meeting by Greg T. He informed us that Orange County is interested in forming a regional office (group).
- Greg T. suggested that we have a meeting from all Southern California area groups. Greg thought this would help open up communications amongst the Southern California groups and the World Service Office. This meeting will include the Chairpersons and Vice-Chairpersons from the following areas; Los Angeles, San Fernando Valley, Santa Barbara, San Diego, San Gabriel Valley, and Orange County. This meeting will take place on July 30, Thursday at the Maison Gerard Restaurant in North Hollywood. Motion: To provide some refreshments for this meeting. Motion seconded and carried.Helene to send letter.
Next meeting July 23, 1987
August Board meetings will be August 13th and 20th.
Motion to adjourn 10 pm seconded and carried.
