COCAINE ANONYMOUS WORLD SERVICE OFFICE MINUTES OF BOARD MEETING

May 15, 1987

ATTENDEES

The meeting was called to order 7:30PM with the serenity prayer.

Mike L. read the long version of the 4th Tradition.

The minutes of the meeting from May 7, 1987 were read.

Motion: To accept minutes as read.

Objection: Change F – change to read primary purpose of the board is not to run checks and balances on the Trustees.

Change G to read Reggie L will produce letter.

Motion seconded with above changes.

OLD BUSINESS

  1. Steve P. of San Gabriel Valley has been asked to serve as director and has accepted.
  2. Coco thanked Mike L. for his services on the board and asked for a written resignation.
  3. Mike L. – Ups- spoke with Ed Varela (213) 626-1551 and will be meeting with him at the office Monday 5/18/87 at 10:30am to set up service. Suggested that Albert, office employee, and a member of the board be in attendance.
  4. Insurance for Office – Office package policy- Mike has a broker checking into coverage. (Roger Williams Ins. Agency (213-273-0516). Mike was informed that there is a slight problem obtaining this policy because
  5. we are Cocaine Anonymous. Steve will call NAWSO to see about their office policy. Helene will call A.A. office in S.F.V.
  6. Coco will contact Helene regarding letter to Bruce M. regarding the Connection and the need for him to be present at the board meeting when scheduled.
  7. Coco is meeting with Bob G., public information update, Monday,May 18. Bob will give his report on May 28, 1987.
  8. New Corporation to be started and will be called World Service Office, Inc. Linda asked Ray if same accounting systems can be used, Ray explained that all new accounts for CAWSO are to be opened,
  9. Thank you letter for donations is instituted.
  10. 12 Steps/12 Traditions scrolls- discussion postponed.
  11. Coco sent a letter San Francisco Bay Area regarding use of the metal chips and received a letter giving our office permission to use the dyes. They will retain ownership fo the dyes and change the logo. They will inform us of the contact person in San Francisco.

K) Bernie Gans (attorney) sent papers for the Federal Trademark filing for Coco’s signature

L) Office Employee – 2 applicants; Coco stated that one of the applicants is sponsored by one of the directors and felt this may cause a problem. The Board decided to hire Corrie. She will work 11am – 5pm then to change to 10am – 4pm. Salary will be $6/hr. 30 hours weekly.

NEW BUSINESS

  1. Linda was asked to check into lease for office.
  2. Water and Power bill – DW? has been billing us under suite 206. We are suite 208. Suite 206 will pay 50% of the bills since we have been billed for their office. They will cover past bills and present bills as well. DWP will continue to bill in same manner since there is only one meter for both offices.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

National Directory – Neil B.

Coco spoke to Bob L. in S.F. and Bob stated that June 1st is the last date for submission of directories from all states and any changes that need to be made. He suggested that we print 1000 copies for distribution and sell in bulk to large areas at special rates.

Coco asked Neil about the format for the directory. Neil stated that the front cover will have the CA chip format on it. He is planning to have an introduction in the front of the booklet. Inside will include area represen- tatives to send directories to and their names and addresses and what areas they will be serving. Will aske the San Francisco Convention Committee if they would like to have some National Direcotries at the Convention to sell. Newsletter will include a blurp in it’s first printing stating National Directory will be ready for distribution in July.

Chips and Literature – Albert T.

Albert was informed that all chips and literature were to remain in the office at all times.

Albert presented an inventory of merchandise on hand. Assets in office at present time equals $5370.72.

It was suggested to Albert that we keep a larger stock of Newcomer chips since they are the most sold. Albert will ask KCT to have chips placed in bags of 100 count. Counts should be limited to one person’s responsibility at the office.

All literature is presently marked with 1984 Copyright. 1st 30 days pamphlet should show change on inside flap last paragraph 1st side: Should be changed to read Call the central office in your area. Helene will call the Copy Center to have them make changes.

Literature for Public Service functions was discussed and it was stressed that any literature given for this function should not end up in any meetings as this is for Pulbic Information Use Only.

Mike will be given 200 pieces each of our literature for the Price Club function for a total of 1000 pieces. Albert will get this to Mike on Monday.

Newsletter – Steve P.

Approval date for 1st publication is moved to May 28, 1987. Jim G. of Claremont was asked to replace Steve P.(since he is now on the Board) as Chairperson of this Committee. This committee will meet again on May 21 and May 23rd.

Connection – Bruce Me.

No report as Bruce was not present.

Treasurer’s Report – Linda H.

Balance in Accounts:

Trust Account – $8408.10
Operating Acct. – 442.05
Savings Account – 88.08
Total Balances – $8938.23

Projected Budget:

Will show deficit of approximately $20,500 however no convention income is shown. This is estimated to be approximately $15,000.

Projected expenses: $80,000

Income:  59,500

Coco brought up discussion of Corporate Tax Attorneys. They are Cooper, Epstein and will ask Phil H. (our attorney) to attend next board meeting.

Motion to adjourn meeting 9:45PM. Motion seconded and carried,
