OPENING REPORT C.A. WORLD SERVICE CONFERENCE 2015 PUBLIC INFORMATION REPORT
INTRODUCTION AND OPENING COMMENTS:
As reported last year, the PI committee began anew with a brand new group of passionate, committed members, collectively striving to educate our respective communities with the powerful message of CA. We set out with subcommittees addressing the area’s we seem to be absent in according to the 2012 survey. Throughout the year, these committees made tremendous accomplishments in their areas.

We have divided these 7 areas into two categories of subcommittees- Reaching out through the media and reaching out through the professional community.
Media- Darline, Beverly, Troy, Calle
These efforts are intended to reach out directly to the addict.
PSAs – Members of the committee in California have submitted a simple PSA, but the owner requests more dialogue and content within the PSA. This process is ongoing and we are very optimistic that we can achieve a mutually acceptable product and begin to, in this venue, get the message out to those still suffering addicts and their families. Committee members in Colorado have created a radio PSA and are working with a company to broadcast the PSA through the local radio stations.
Internet ads- Members of the committee have created a local Facebook ad directed to an audience that meets specific criteria.
Professional Community- John and Melissa
These efforts are intended to establish long term relationships enabling the professional community to utilize CA as a resource for their clients.
Drug Court –
Members of our committee attended the annual Drug Court Conference. The drug court experience revealed what seems to be a common theme in the professional community, they are looking for “an alternative” to other fellowships.

Probation Departments-
On a local area level members of the committee have been taking presentations into their local probation departments and providing resources to their clients. The success in these efforts is evident in the interest shown and requests for additional presentations as well as invitations to statewide events.
Behavioral Health Departments-
Members of our committee have made the same efforts to reach out to their state Department of Behavioral Health. This has resulted in requests for presentations in mandatory statewide training.
Schools-
Local high schools have requested speakers from CA for their Assemblies addressing the “drug problem”
Community resource directory-
We contacted 211 and learned they were only referring individuals who stated cocaine to be their drug of choice to us. We were able to help them edit their resource information page about Cocaine Anonymous. They will now be using us as a resource for individuals with any drug or alcohol addiction.
Surveys –
We have created a survey to be available online which will be brought to the committee for review. We remain hopeful that by the end of Conference we will have the green light to launch this survey on a broad scale and by year’s end, have up-to-date numbers/percentages which in turn, show where we have made progress as well as direct us to areas where we need to continue to focus our efforts.
Handbook Review –
A supplement outlining exactly how we went about reaching out to these areas has been submitted as an addition to the Handbook. This supplement is intended to be a roadmap that the local areas can utilize to reach out to their community. Handbook review and edits will be continuing during this conference. It is expected that any revisions, edits or changes will be committee sanctioned and this process will be finalized.
REFERRALS THAT WERE WORKED ON DURING THE YEAR:
Work on referral 2014PI-1 (PSAs in movie theaters) continues to be explored.

CLOSING COMMENTS:
The committee has had some successes as related above, however, the work we need to do is far reaching and very involved. Given this opportunity demonstrated by our most recent survey we have an obligation to reach out! We need people that are willing to be on a committee that requires hard work and accountability. If you’re willing to commit and follow through this is a very rewarding opportunity.

Susan B. – Would you have some of the business tool posted on the website to be downloadable?
Alan S. – They are already available online.

Alan S. – You can print the survey and input it with the online survey count.
Unknown Person – Will the guidelines and working with drug court be available in
the guidelines?
Alan S. – Yes.
John O. – This supplement in not complete, but just a beginning.
Maurice S. – Have you all gotten our referral?
Alan S. – I’m not sure.
Tony D. – You all can get together after session.
Edy R. – We run into a lot of roadblocks with probation.
Rob W. – Is there an option for design of cards that will show drugs more?
Alan S. – We will focus on Cocaine and all mind altering substance.
