MARKER NADCP – National Harbor DCA Maryland (Richard S.)

  • CANADIAN DRUG COURT

Richard S; The Office will register us in December for NADCP, that’s when we’ve taken care of it in the past. I’ll let you know at the December Quarterly as to that happening. As previously reported Kenny, Linda and myself will be leaving straight from CAWS2012. As for the Canadian Drug Court I’ve been liaising with local members since last year, to clarify that this is currently a locally supported event and the members who attend are not attending or speaking on behalf of CA World Services but representing the Canadian area. Discussions have considerations of not only travel costs but also CA World Services booth and literature shipping costs. We continue to appreciate the Canadian areas efforts and information while we look at the feasibility of Worlds participation.

MARKER TEC – (Terry, Kenny)

Terry; Nothing much to report, we will be sending out a letter to TEC delegates and any slate names asking about attendance at CAWS2012 but that wont be for a while yet.

2008.04.14 CA Helpdesk site (Richard L., Richard S.)

Richard S; as previously reported there will be no change or moving forward with this project until our Webservant is able to address some issues with our hosting services, we just don’t have the resources to support this project at this time.

Joy; Richard, shall we move this to Long Term Planning?

Richard S; Good idea, yes it should

Randy; OK, lets move it off here and into LTP

2010.09.01 Status of the WSO (Richard L., Randy)

DAL (new business)

Credit Card (new business)

Richard L; All is good at the office

Randy; What’s the return plan for our warehouse person, are we still using John as the temp person?

Richard L; Yes he is still in place but wants to get out asap

Randy; I was made aware an urgent shipment wasn’t sent, is everything in hand?

Richard L; I believe all is ok, I’ll look into the shipment issue and report back.

Richard S; What are we paying the temp?

Richard L; $## per hour. This is based on what we would have had to have paid an agency to supply us a temp warehouse worker. Andrew was at first only going to be off for 4 weeks but unfortunately Andrews physical recovery has been somewhat slower than we all would have hoped.

Joy; My concern is we are paying our temp twice what we pay Andrew. Are we getting our monies worth?

Richard L; We are getting value for money, John is able to help out in other areas when needed, IT and other tasks in the office.

Joy; I just need to state that my issue is the pay rate

2010.12.02 – AdHoc Committee regarding HFC II (Joy)

Joy; Nothing to report, I’m awaiting updates from Elizabeth and will present a report at the December Quarterly

2011.03.01 – European fulfillment facility – (Russell)

Russell; I’ve compiled example orders from previously placed orders and with the help of WSO and have weights of orders sent out to allow for local shipping costs to be worked out. These will be presented together with costs supplied by fulfillment companies to allow for comparison against costs incurred when shipping from LA.

2011.04.03 – Assembly and the Edmonton Hope Faith Courage Society – (Terry)

Wade,

Hope your travels home were safe.

I was asked to look into the topic of the Society and do not want to miss interpret what was discussed and explained by you. The WSBT has our conference call on Sunday the 17th and will discuss this Item.

I would appreciate it if you would detail an email on this matter as to the society and relation to the fellowship. As I have said I do not want to put forward incorrect information and it would be nice to have a informed board before we discuss this matter.

A response before Saturday would be great so that we have time to review it.

Terry; I’m still awaiting the letter from Bob C.

Randy; Richard L and Peter can you please chase this up with Bob C

2011.05.06 – WSBT budget issues for CAWS 2012 (Russell and Randy) –

May 19 – 24 – Quarterly (21May – 28May)

May 24 – 28 – Convention

WSOB – DOO, Chair, Treasurer – ONLY

Randy; I believe this was addressed and budgeted for already.

Richard L; The WSOB have not discussed sending anyone other than those listed

Peter; Wasn’t there a discussion about finding room only reimbursement for those directors attending and helping out?

Richard L; A discussion only, its still only as the agenda here states….3 positions.

2011.05.08 – French and other foreign language translations; @steps/traditions. WSBT interpretation of Bylaws and Charter with regards to this issue. (Russell) –

Motion to ask that the WSOB translation process to include the presentation of the final translation and the efforts be presented to the WSBT for their approval prior to any release of publication. Passed

Richard L. and Russell will see that this is completed.

Russell; This is in hand, nothing much more to report. The local members have begun the process of discussion and WSOB Translations understand and accept the inclusion of WSBT review in the process.

Randy; Can this be removed as it stands on this agenda

Russell; Yes

All; Yes

2011.05.11 – CAWS 2012 Checking account/ Emergency Guidelines for Petty Cash Account (Russell)

Russell: This seems to be working well and regular amounts are being forwarded as requested to keep the account within the ceiling agreed.

Randy; With regards the recent motion that passed with the WSBT, can Richard L please ask the WSOB to begin the ad-hoc discussions.

Joy; There actually is already a yahoo group set up.

Richard L; I just met up with Barry, he’s happy to move forward.

2011.08.01 – Audit (Richard S., Joy)

Randy; We discussed this, this was brought to the finance committee and will be budgeted for in the future.

Richard S; There is already a line in the 2012-2013 budget.

2011.08.02 – Review Guidelines re: non-addict Trustee (Area/Region, Budget) – Richard S.

Richard S; I’ve not had chance to get into this

Terry; I’ve been looking into this, there is little or nothing in our guidelines. We need to draft something I believe.

Russell; I agree, the little info I found was contradictory and minimal

Randy; OK, lets change the item to ‘Establish guidelines for non-addict Trustee’ and ask Terry and Kenny to work on this in TEC.

2011.08.03 – Review of Tal 2 budget – Richard S., Russell

Richard S; I believe the TaL2 should carry the same line amount as TaL1.

Randy; TaL2 now carries a $0 amount on the current budget which now allows amendment when required

Brian; I need to just check that TaL is in the budget

Joy/Richard S; Its on

Randy; OK I’m removing this from the agenda

#C2011.7.24 – Request for tradition clarification – (forwarded from the WSOB)-Kenny,

Richard S.

Sent: Sunday, July 24, 2011 5:29 PM

Subject: request for tradition clarification

Sir/Madam,

I am a member of the world service technology committee for Overeaters Anonymous. At the May business conference for OA the technology committee decided to poll several other 12 Step programs about their use of social media websites as part of carrying the message.

I would like to know your Board of Trustee’s opinion on using social media (Twitter, Facebook and the like) for public outreach? How do you handle tradition issues (mostly with regard to protecting anonymity of members) when using these new media technologies?

If you have any suggestions or experience, strength and hope or personal experiences I would greatly appreciate hearing about them. Our current belief as a committee is that these new technologies are not within the scope of our traditions. We would love to use them but we just don’t know how without breaking our traditions.

Thank you for taking the time to read this email and I look forward to hearing about your insights.

In Recovery,

R. Craig R

for a local CA meeting that wants to address only Cocaine? It seems the Anything Anonymous Idea is harmful to the fellowship. No members, meetings have no CA substance, so the CA meetings in L.V. are basically just A.A. meetings talking about cocaine, because of this statement. Since CA’s policy it to be all inclusive instead of a singleness of purpose, we would like to create a format to delete that statement so Coke heads could come together in unity. Since there is no real substance addressed by CA we believe this shouldn’t be a problem. We await your comments. —————————————————————————

REGION Subject: BIBICAL VERSES USED IN MEETING Message: I have a question about guidelines when a CA members share during the meeting using references of biblical verses during their share. The use of quotes from the Bible during their share. My other concern is after a member has shared another members may respond with “Praise the Lord” in agreement with the share. Also what is CA approach on a member responding after a share with “Amen”. Please help me with information information on this topic.

IN-CONFERENCE REFFERRALS TO BE ADDRESSED:

Referral # 6395 Limit size of Trustees reports

That the Trustees limit their reports to 3 pages and CA business, not personal glad-handing.

Richard S (Lead), Joy, Peter

Referral #6557 Dispense of Resume Submission to Conference Floor

To dispense of the rule of slate resumes from last year. The Region has already approved the slate. I think e-mail or on-screen would suffice if people want to read the resumes. Passing out paper copies is not “green.” I will try not to be out of order any more.

Terry (Lead), Kenny

Referral # 6585 Literature Fulfillment outside the US

We understand that active investigation has been ongoing for several years looking at options for literature fulfillment outside the USA. Please would you start a process of consultation with the areas which may be serviced by such facilities. At the recent European Regional Assembly concerns over disenfranchisement were expressed.

Russell (Lead), Brian, Randy

Referral #6587 Trustee Slate Ratification Process

Please review the trustee slate ratification that takes place at conference. It is not a ‘sound and appropriate method’ for choosing our service leaders (concept 9). Slate members have been voted on by their respective areas and regions. These are the fellows that know them and have served with them. The ratification at conference is an un-informed conscience. It is superfluous to the process and sets a bad precedence for the business of conference, in my opinion.

Kenny (Lead), Terry

Referral #6591 Comments on all addictions

AA refused to treat cocaine addicts and suggested that they opened their own meetings; why do CA should accept any and every addiction?

Kenny (Lead), Richard L, Russell

Referral # 6596 HUB set up for European Distribution of CA Literature

It is the Area conscience of CA Scotland that we would like a European Hub set up for distribution of CA literature. We understand that this is in progress and ask that the Committee continue to push on with bringing this to a timeous conclusion. Thank you all for your service.

Russell (Lead), Brian, Randy

Referral #6601 Add Trustee Position to Resume

To put which Trustee position on each person’s resume.

Joy (Lead), Richard S, Peter, Kenny

Referral # 6617 Removal of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual Transgender CA is for you IP

Removal the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual Transgender CA is for you IP. It is in violation of Tradition #10 CA has no opinion on outside issues, hence the CA name ought never be drawn into public controversy. This is singling out a certain sector of our society and what your sexual preference is or orientation should not matter. In line with Tradition #3 that the only requirement for CA membership is a desire to quit using cocaine and all other mind altering substances. I honestly question how this got through the conference floor originally. I also question the precendence this IP sets if left available. Because next, we can request an IP especially for single parents. CA is for you. Victims of Incest if for you. Where do we draw the line? CA is for any and all who have a drug and alcohol problem and wish to quit. That’s what our IP should say.

Randy (Lead), Joy, Robert

Referral #6756 TAL Attendance at Canadian Association of Drug Court

That CA also attend the Canadian Association of Drug Court as it does for the U.S. Drug Court. Annually that a line item be added for TAL expenses to attend & support via books, booth, pamphlets, etc.

Richard S (Lead), Joy

Referral # 6758 European HUB set up

My visit to Holland as Scottish Delegate brought to my attention that there is a proposal for a European HUB for literature and that it is in committee. I have taken this back to my Area and it is the conscience of the Scottish area that this be speedily dealt with.

Russell (Lead), Brian, Randy

Referral #6792 Changes to Who is a Cocaine member

I would like to have “Who is a Cocaine member” removed or have the 3rd and 5th Tradition adapted from cocaine and all other mind altering substances to cocaine or all other mind altering substances

Joy (Lead), Kenny, Peter

Referral #6783 Removal of Nominees from Trustee Slate

To give the TEC the ability to remove a nominee from a trustee slate only when:

  1. Nominee notifies the trustee for the Region and/or TEC that they no longer wish to be on slate.
  2. It is completely obvious that they no longer meet the qualifications to be a trustee. Hopefully this will help expedite the voting on the slates during conference.

Terry (Lead), Kenny

Referral # 6792 Drug Specific question

This idea that we are not drug specific is misleading. Primary purpose is the one we have to help the suffering addict.

Randy (Lead), Brian

Referral #6807 Uniting Both WSO and WSBT Boards, sent in per SR14 (this was referred to both Trustees and S&B the S&B number of the identical referral is 6814)

To unite both the WSBT and WSOB into one Board of Trustee’s. The WSBT functions as the chief entity responsible for policy and future functioning of the Fellowship while conference is not in session. The WSOB is tasked to carry out the directives as set forth by the WSBT. Both boards have voting members. Both Boards have Votes at Conference. The WSOB is already comprised of WST and WSOT who carry votes at WSOB,WSBT and Conference. Every member of each board has a Vote respective to their board. So why should these two board stay apart? In 1991 when the Corporations where first created it was required to have Directors as residents of the State, but those rules have long since changed. Since there are two CAWS corporations it is just as easy to pick corporate officers from the pool of Trustee Board Members. Since there is no statutory or legal reason for the Boards to stay apart, we should consider the Spiritual reason why they should unite. Our 1St Tradition is reason one. The presently written 2011 World Service Manual is two. It already states very clearly that WSOB is responsible to the WSBT and acts upon directives from the WSBT and from the Conference. But it also states in our 10th Concept that every service responsibility should be matched by an equal service authority, the WSOB doesn’t have an equal, it’s its own self-regulating board that often times acts apart from the WSBT or in some cases against Directives set by the WSBT. Apart from Chair, Treasurer, Paid Director all other Directors are interviewed and ratified by the WSOB with

minimal oversight from conference (Equal Match of Authority). WSOB Directors much like Trustees should be chosen by a DEC (Director Election Committee) qualifying Directors should be interviewed by the conference and ratified by the whole. This makes the 9th concept “Good service leaders, together with sound and appropriate methods of choosing them are at all levels indispensable for our future functioning and safety.” It is the conferences responsibility to hold all Trusted Servants accountable, unifying both boards accomplishes this.
