January 8, 2004
Approved minutes

PRESENT:

Meeting called to order at p.m. 7:10. Brian read the 10th Tradition; Patty read the 10th Concept.

  • Motion (Mike/Patty) to approve the minutes of 12/11/03 as submitted passes.

OLD BUSINESS: none.

VISITOR REPORTS:

CAWS 2004 Program Chair – Kathy Jo R. – See written reports. Need to add Long-term Planning and World Service Forum workshops on Saturday afternoon to workshop schedule. Regional meetings will be on 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Sunday.

WSOB wants all contracts – or at least drafts – be submitted to WSOB by 2/12/04 meeting. WSOB requests that Jim H. (CAWS 2004 Chair) and Lee A. (Entertainment Chair) attend 2/12/04 WSOB meeting.

Webservant – Jon F. – See written report.

OFFICER REPORTS:

Chair: Has worked with office manager and Trustees. Has been in contact with the office regarding the Convention and accounting. New draft of personnel handbook is complete. Has been checking email.

Vice Chair: See written report. Conference Committee voted with substantial unanimity to move the^Conference to the Downdown Hyatt. Conference Committee will have Conference Report and Delegate forms ready for next mailing.

Secretary: 11 copies of approved minutes for Trustees will be in WSOT’s box in the office by next week.

Treasurer: See written reports. CRE Computer Rentals will be removed from payables if insurance paid it. Amy Beech’s 6/30/02 bill will be removed from payables because receipts never submitted. Will be closing CAWS 2003 account and moving money to money market. During tax season will be doing work offsite and over the phone with office manager. The chair would like the Board to consider a motion to transfer money from the operating fund into the office prudent reserve at the 2nd WSOB meeting each month.

Director 1 (Mike G): No report.

Director 2 (Earl H): See written report.

World Service Office Trustee: See written report. All of the stories have been found with names except 2. The Trustee Legal Committee wants to investigate the possibility of hiring

Bernie Gans to give legal opinions and/or represent us regarding issue of an individual who committed theft from an Area of CA. Set times for quarterly Trustee meeting will be adjusted so that Treasurer can come at 8:00 a.m.

  • Motion (Mike/Elizabeth) to suspend the rules passes.
  • Motion (Mike/Elizabeth) extend the time until business is completed, or until 12:00 a.m., whichever comes first passes.

World Service Trustee: No report.

Office Manager: See written report. Would like to increase inventory from approx. $33,000 to $50,000. Would like to hire additional staff and reassign duties which would increase salaries from approx. $124,000 to $135,000. Would require changes to Service Manual, so will bring ideas to Trustees with hope of implementation in 2007.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

CAWS 2005 – John will follow up with Cook Convention Center to see if any payment is due.

CAWS 2006 – Committee is meeting regularly. Cynthia C, is in contact with them.

CAWS 2007 – Have elected Kay T. their Chair.

NEW BUSINESS:

  • Motion (Earl/Mark) to approve Press Release for CAWS 2004 passes.
  • Motion (Mike/Earl) to approve Newsgram passes. In the future will have Contribution Program as a line item with 7th Tradition donations.
  • Motion (Patty/Mark) to pay CAWS 2004 Program Chair $400.00 for unpaid balance for Lasertag fundraiser passes.
  • Motion (Eiizabeth/Mark) to table vendor agreements until next meeting passes.
  • Motion (Elizabeth/Mark) to table approval of Workshop slate withdrawn.
  • Motion (Mark/Elizabeth) to approve workshop slate as amended passes.
  • Motion (Elizabeth/Mark) to move the Regional meetings on Sunday, May 30, 2004 to 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. passes.
  • Motion (Elizabeth/Mark) to move Conference Standing Committee meetings on Sunday, May 30, 2004 to 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. passes.
  • Motion (Elizabeth/Mark) to table change of venue for future Conferences passes.
  • Motion (Mark/Judy) to approve speaker slate as submitted by Committee. Friendly amendment that the Board would suggest that the Committee consider that Los Angeles is the home of many of the founders of and the birthplace of our fellowship. Perhaps a member who got sober in C.A. and makes it his or her primary recovery program could be considered for the main banquet. Amendment accepted. Motion passes.

WSOB requests that CAWS 2004 Committee change schedule to remove conflicts.

  • Motion to adjourn (Mark/Pattv) at 11:49 p.m. passes.
