  1. WORLD SERVICE BOARD OF DIRECTORS REPORT
  2. INTRODUCTION AND OPENING COMMENTS: The World Service Office Board of Directors received 30 referrals this conference and we met Friday morning September 1, 2000 to discuss and take action on those referrals. We have no motions to bring to the floor for action by the Conference but will review our actions in this report. We did however pass certain motions to meet the requests of members as follows:
  3. Referral #1113 – the WSOB passed a motion to begin production of a new 18 month Medallion.
  4. Referral # 1427 – the WSOB passed a motion to create a Spanish language ca.org web page accessible from the ca.org web page similar to the French language web page.
  5. Referral #1238: – the WSOB passed a motion to change the international shipping charges schedule to eliminate shipping and handling charges on the French edition of Hope, Faith and Courage in excess of the actual costs.
  6. Referrals # 1467 & 1057 – the WSOB passed a motion to create a service section connected to org containing all service materials, while protecting anonymity, within 60 days.
  7. ITEMS TABLED UNTIL NEXT YEAR; AND ITEMS THE WSO WILL CONTINUE WORKING ON THROUGH THE YEAR:
  8. Referral # 1021 – translate the WSM into Spanish. The WSO will research the costs to translate, on an annual basis, the WSM into Spanish and report on the feasibility to the WSC as soon as possible.
  9. Referrals # 1184, 1410, 1231, 1415 – produce chips and medallions in Canada. The WSO is taking no immediate action. However, the Office will work with the Canadian Areas in researching

alternative vendors to produce and provide fulfillment of CA’s “chips” and medallions within

  1. Referral # 1067 – emergency de-linking policy. The WSOB has tabled action on this matter until the Trustees finish their research into this problem.
  2. Referral # 1093 – secure website for credit purchases of CAWS registrations only. The WSOB is taking no immediate action but will research shopping cart programs which will meet Trustee mandate.
  3. Referral # 1098 – host city hotel negotiating guidelines. The WSO will continue drafting the guidelines that are in process.
  4. Referral #1422 – give PI the same H&I 50% discount. The WSO will continue research on this issue. In the meantime the Office will continue to sell the select pieces of approved literature (the Self Test, What is CA?, To the Newcomer) at the 50% discount to PI.
  5. ITEMS REFERRED TO OTHER COMMITTEES OR BOARD OF TRUSTEES:
  6. Referral # 1252 – regarding an increase in specific Trustee budgets. We have referred that to the Board of Trustees for their consideration.
  7. Referral # 1094 – regarding adding budget amounts for CAWS Convention chairpersons, past and present, attendance at the WSC. We referred this to the WSC Convention Committee as such a request should come from them.
  8. Referral # 1414 – regarding the creation of a Canadian WSO Board position. Referred to WSC Structure and Bylaws. The World Service Board may not create positions on its own Board of Directors.
  9. Referral # 1095 – change host city guidelines regarding raffles. Referred to Convention Committee with the recommendation that only limited onsite raffle activity be allowed.
  10. Referral # 1115 – printing submissions in local recovery newsletters. Referred to WSBT.
  11. REFERRALS THAT DID NOT RESULT IN MOTIONS:
  12. Referral #1006 regarding the use of the 12 Point Literature Approval Process. We took no action since the WSO does not produce materials that lend themselves to the 12 Point Literature Approval Process. We do participate when appropriate in that process.
  13. Referrals #1031, 1023, 1459 regarding problems with the receipt or lack, of delegate information throughout the year in the Washington State and British Columbia Areas. The WSO has proposed changes to the WSC Conference Committee which, when implemented, should eliminate these problems.
  14. Referral # 1187 – area information on web site ca.org. We took no immediate action. The Office will review the specific problems with area missing information. In addition the Office has adopted procedures to ensure that information provided the Office is quickly forwarded to the Webmaster for

posting. In addition the Office Board has approved a new Area Events Information Form which will be available for electronic transmission of event information on the ca.org web page.

  1. Referral # 1474 – research transcripts of 1999 WSC for information on the Online Service Committee’s location in the Pacific South Region.. The WSO will research and provide the member with the information.
  2. Referral # 1149 – use of CA logo. The WSO takes no additional action other than continuing to enforce the license requirements that exist between CAWS and CAWSO.
  3. Referrals 1112 & 1074 – reprint updated WSM manual after conference. The Office will use the most efficient method of distribution possible of the WSM as presented by the Structure and Bylaws Committee of the WSC.
  4. Referral # 1111 – numbered paper on the transcripts. The Office will instruct the transcriber to follow the recommendations of the WSC Conference Committee with regards to the use of numbered items in the transcripts.
  5. CATW is a function of the WSO. Frank B. will be the new chair of CATW and will be working with the office.

  9. Scott S:   He read the referral. I’d like Steve speak on how we handle submissions.
  10. Steve E.: I spoke to the member who referred this, and discovered what he was looking for was what was appropriate, etc.
