C.A. WORLD SERVICE CONFERENCE 2007
LITERATURE CHIPS & FORMAT COMMITTEE REPORT
INTRODUCTION AND OPENING COMMENTS:
The LCF and its subcommittees, including the Storybook Subcommittee, were in session throughout the year via online email loops and telephone conference calls. Each region of CA was represented. Members of the LCF included delegates from the United Kingdom, Canada, America and Sweden,
At the moment the LCF has a membership of 18. The majority are delegates. There are also two trustees involved and a few former delegates and trustees with major CA literature habits.

REFERRALS THAT WERE WORKED UPON DURING THE YEAR:
Having said the LCF has been in session throughout the year, it is closer to the truth to say that the Storybook Subcommittee has been in session. Unfortunately,

very members of the LCF other than the Storybook Committee took part in any of the debates that went on during the year.
When I took over the LCF a couple of years ago the outgoing Chair told me he didn’t have a due about what projects were on the go, who was doing them and where they were up to. Luckily a coupie of our current members, Cynthia C and Jeannette J, have nailed the projects down. A document giving a breakdown of the LCF’s projects, is attached to this report.
One of the results of our work is the new Hope, Faith & Courage Volume II book that 1 have here in my hand. I hope all you fellow delegates will big-up the book in your areas and districts, it is well worth reading and 1 don’t say that purely because 1 have spent the last five years involved with it.
Now in fact might be a good time for the Storybook Chair, Susan D, to give a rundown of what was involved in putting together the book.
Currently the LCF has 20 projects on the go. These vary from pamphlets on crank/methamphetamine, and Tips For Staying Clean & Sober, to a Meditation Book and a Newcomer Booklet. There are also nine existing projects and pamphlets which are having housekeeping duties done to them. In part this is to make sure they tally with the readings and formats that are in the new Hope, Faith & Courage Volume II book.

As I said a bit earlier there is a breakdown of the LCF’s projects attached to this report. This breakdown says which Conference voted for a project, who is working on the project, and what stage they are up to in terms of the 12 Point Literature Approval Process. This breakdown was very kindly produced by Cynthia C after much research.
All LCF projects, as I mentioned yesterday, go through a 12 Point Literature Approval Process.
Point 1 is when the idea for the pamphlet, book or project is submitted to the World Service Conference (WSC) Literature Chips & Format Committee (LCF),

Point 12 is when the Conference votes on the final piece without any amendments, if there are amendments the project gets referred back to the LCF or is removed by a Conference vote.
Sixteen of our 20 ongoing projects are at point 4 in the Approval Process. Point 4 is when a project is assigned to an LCF subcommittee for writing or work.
Unfortunately many of the LCF’s projects stay at point 4 for too many years, which is a shame. The reason for this is very simple – the LCF simply does not have enough dedicated members to do ail the work that it has been asked to do by the Conference.

There are other projects being dealt with by the LCF, you can find these by looking at the attached breakdown document. What would be even better would be to give yourself first hand experience by joining the LCF.
I wish to add that we got two documents into the WSO in time to meet the SR14 deadline. These weren’t sent out with the first mailing but came in a second one at the end of July. Copies of the documents are attached to this report. They are:

Lastly, I know that the length of our telephonic conference calls caused some mirth yesterday. I’d just like to stress though that the LCF are not a glum lot. The committee is great fun, if it wasn’t l wouldn’t take part in it.

Dan Sadur- is there a difference between a proven point and a publication point? Cynthia Cronkite ~ up until last year there was not process, merely stated it would be published. The publication process shows that. The approval process shows how it goes from an idea to the floor.
The process should be in the Delegate book, but we can provide that.

Dot Thompson – Regarding the pamphlet, “So you think you’re different”? I don’t see it this year.
Cynthia Cronkite ~ The conept that was approved was for a piece to the gay and lesbian community, however we have expanded that. We are back to reporting a piece on the gay and lesbian addict because that was approved here.
