C.A. WORLD SERVICE CONFERENCE 2012
H & I COMMITTEE REPORT
INTRODUCTION AND OPENING COMMENTS
The H&I Committee is pleased to welcome our new group of members for the 2012 WSC. A big warm welcome to: Seth S., Kenny M., and Alesia F. It is always a wonderful feeling to see new members bring fire to the committee. We are also pleased to have so many returning members rejoin the committee, bringing the experiences of past conferences while being open to new ideas. During this past year the H&I Committee continued to work via monthly conference calls and our yahoo groups to get the Lifeline Guidelines included in the WSC H&I Guidelines; to answer inmate letters sent to Cocaine Anonymous; and to carry the message of H&I to our respective Areas, Districts, and Groups. It is wonderful to hear the excitement and enthusiasm of other areas that have had some experience implementing the new C. A. Lifeline. For more information

During this conference our committee also had the privilege and honor of having our local Area H&I liaison provide us the opportunity to serve on two local H&I panels.

Statement of Purpose – Our primary purpose is to carry the message of recovery to the still suffering addict and newcomer. We are committed to being there for all H&I committees and areas to assist them in any way possible. We will reconnect by opening up a line of communication to promote unity from within. It is our mission to outreach to the existing H&I community in order to assist them with information as it pertains to the H&I Guidelines and the newly added Lifeline. Goals for the Year – Attached is a form asking for the name, phone number, and email address of the H&I chair in your district/area. We appreciate your help in forwarding this request for information to your district/area with enthusiasm and excitement. Throughout the year our committee will make every effort to communicate with the areas from the information provided, in order to fulfill our purpose. (included in our report)
Pearl B. – Creative Writing Chair
The purpose of the Creative Writing Committee is to get as many people as possible involved in writing a story of their choice for our quarterly Newsgram. Our duties are to collect the submissions and forward them, along with the release form, to the Newsgram Editor and committee chair.
Our goal is to preserve the H&I Corner of the Newsgram and to share our experience, strength, and hope all around the globe. We encourage you all to

take some time to submit your story. We encourage your district/area to do the same, and to give back what was so freely given to us, a second chance at a first class life.
Anthony S. – Correctional Referrals Chair
Statement of purpose
The Correctional Referrals sub-committee is responsible to answer inmate letters and informational inquiries. This sub-committee has set up a system with the WSO to retrieve and answer letters; this will help us to ensure all people get a proper response mailed to them.
The system set up is as follows:
- Letters are sent to the WSO.
- The letters are reviewed by the WSO and literature is sent to the inmate right away.
- Once the Literature has been sent, the letter is then scanned and saved to the Correctional Referrals folder on the H&I Yahoo group.
- One member of the CR sub-committee volunteers to retrieve the letters and send them to other members via e-mail, for quicker response.
- Personal responses may include many different items, such as: Meeting lists, Websites, Hotline numbers, Sponsorship, information of how to start a meeting, and any other information requested about the program of Cocaine Anonymous.
- Follow up with sub-committee members to make sure that responses were sent.
Correctional Referrals sub-committee will work with the Outreach sub-committee, to get in touch with the different H&I chairs around the world. Contact with H&I chairs outside this committee will help us serve the Newcomers more effectively.

Adrien H. -H&I Guidelines Chair
Guidelines Sub-Committee Statement of Purpose.
The Guidelines Sub-Committee is committed to revising Guidelines through re-formatting and adding Conference approved literature. Any changes to the existing guidelines must go through the approval process and maintain a proper copy of the guidelines available to the World Website.
The Guidelines are subject to ongoing housekeeping; this housekeeping will be directed at making the guidelines as clear and concise as possible. This sub-committee is responsible for incorporating all changes decided on, in response to the referrals received.
The following items will be worked on starting soon after this conference:
- Adding the Conference approved reading “Who is a CA member” and modifying the suggested panel format, to incorporate this reading.
- Proofreading the guidelines content; ensuring all information is presented clearly.
- Regular housekeeping
These items listed will be worked on right away; we want to make sure these guidelines are correct. The H&I guidelines are extremely important for areas wanting to start their own H&I committee, as well as providing some direction for those areas who already have a functional H&I committee.

Referral #6871: Please update the meeting format in the H&I Guidelines to include “Who is a C.A. Member?” Our Area has found this reading very helpful to H&I. Please also do any housekeeping necessary to make sure the format matches the current Conference-approved meeting format.
Response: The WSC H&I Committee appreciates this referral. We will add the reading “Who is a C.A. Member” to the H&I suggested meeting format and the suggested open meeting format. Additionally we will attend to necessary housekeeping changes that are required. We will also include the reading itself with the other recommended readings.

In closing we would like to express our gratitude to the WSC, WSO, the Trustees and Delegates that came together to serve the fellowship that was here for all of

us. We especially want to thank the members of the H&I Committee. While we welcome our new members, we also thank Erica and Pearl, who are “outgoing” members for their wonderful commitment and service. The work that they have done speaks for itself. We thank you!!
Our Committees collective experience and passion for the H&I primary purpose has been a spiritual experience in and of itself. We have set the ground work “we hope” for many H&I Conference Committees to come, and look forward to seeing the service goals of this committee followed through on in the coming year.
