GENERAL SERVICES MONTHLY MEETING
APRIL 3, 1984

Johnny Segal welcomed the new members, explained the meeting procedure, and the duties of the General Services Representatives. It was suggested that the C.S.R. s explain to their meetings that the G.S.O. would welcome written suggestions from members.
I. OLD BUSINESS/REPORTS
A. TREASURER’S REPORT
Mitch Sperling reported that the current balance In the G.S.O. account was $303.79. He took In $739 in donations and will have more money from chips and literature.
Mitch explained to the group the uses of the money. He suggested that the C.S.R.s discuss with their meetings the purpose of the G.S.O. and the need to donate any leftover money.
B. PUBLIC INFORMATION REPORT
Gil Mosko reported on the following projects:
1. Chicago C.A. will be having their l-year anniversary on May 5, and the G.S.O. will send them a telegram in acknowledgement.
2. Atlanta now has 5 meetings, General Services Organization, and a Public information Director. Gil sent then the L.A. Tines article, and an example of how not to conduct public Information.
3. C.A.’s TV spot was sent to Bill in San Francisco.
4. The National Directory is completed, and the first edition has been issued to Jeff Shere at 8OO-COCAINE in New Jersey.
5. Gil will meet tomorrow with the chief doctor for the L.A. Olympics.
C. WORLD SERVICES
Ray Grossa explained the concept of World Services and discussed progress on investigating N.A.’s and A.A.’s organizations. He said that there are 3 parts to the organization: World Service Office, Board of Trustees, and Conference. He feels that the creation of the Board of Trustees should be looked into initially. He mentioned that the C.A. G.S.O. is currently acting as the C.A. World Services.

D. LITERATURE COMMITTEE REPORT
Mitch S. mentioned that he has received 2 responses from members on the “Sponsorship” pamphlet and will give then to the writer next week. Joanne Fazio and Linda Jaye will continue writing on the pamphlet.
Johnny S. requested that a suggestion be discussed at the next Board meeting to add a new permanent board member with the title of Literature Chairman.
There is now a charge of 10 cent per copy for obtaining C.A. Literature from the G.S.O. Pamphlets should still be given away free at individual meetings. Mitch S. pointed out that the cost will come down with the new print format. Credit will be given one time at this meeting only.
E. OFFICE MANAGER’S PEPORT
Ray C. said that copies of the National Directory will be available at the next monthly meeting.
He mentioned that Hawaii, Santa Barbara, Houston, New York City, and Connecticut now have meetings, and that Scottsdale, Ariz. may start one.
Ray sent a directory to a psychologist Information line.
He explained that the phone system was working well, but that there was a high turnover in volunteers manning the phones. He commented that the office needs work.
Gil M. mentioned that a member has access to a word processor and would be willing to put the meeting directories on It (both L.A. and National) if the G.S.O. buys the paper. It was agreed to pursue this suggestion.
F. ATHLETICS COMMITTEE REPORT
Mitch S. reported that 44 or 45 Of the 50 tickets have been reserved by members for the Lakers game.
Robin said that the white water raft trip had been vetoed at the C.A. retreat.
G. MEETING CHANGES/ADDITIONS
New meetings:
1. Torrance – Saturday, 7:30 p.m. – 3405 W. Artesia Blvd. behind the church. Participation.
2. Woodland Hills – Tuesday, 8:00 p.m. – 5737 Fallbrook, First Baptist Church – starts April 10.

3. Century City – Saturday, 7:00 p.m. – Century City Hospital, 2070 Century Park E., 9th floor
4. Santa-Barbara – Thursday, 7:00 p.m. – 84 Eucalyptus Lane Monday, Serra Memorial meeting is temporarily scratched.
A suggestion was made for a guide on how to run a meeting. Gil M. mentioned that new secretaries receive starter kits and sample formats.
Friday, midnight meeting has moved to 12810 Victory Blvd, 3/4 block east of Coldwater Canyon in North Hollywood.
H. C.A. PARTY
Johnny S. distributed flyers for the first annual Spring Gratitude Meeting and Celebration on May 5. He said that it would be in the same format as the anniversary party.
He requested that G.S.R. s tell their meetings that there will be no charge for the meeting, but there will be a charge of $5.00 for the dance, and that there will be a panel of speakers, food, and a raffle. Tickets will be sold at the door.
Gil M. suggested advance ticket sales. Johnny will get tickets and distribute to the following volunteers to deliver to meetings:

Johnny requested that the volunteers contact him next Wednesday, to arrange for pick up of tickets.
I. NEW COMMITTEES
Johnny S. presented a structure chart of the General Services Organization and Board. He and Lionel Brown explained the structure.
Johnny also discussed the C.A. retreat and business meeting and the resultant ideas for committees. These committees will have committee heads and members reporting to them. He mentioned each committee on the list, and asked for volunteers. Committees and members ore os follows:

J. OTHER OLD BUSINESS
1. CHIPS
The quantity of chips left Is low. There will be no more extension of credit for purchasing chips.
2. LONG BEACH MEETING
The meeting is doing well and has a new secretary.
3. COMMITTEE ON MANNED PHONES
It was mentioned that this committee should work with the Central Office committee. A plan can be drawn up now, and be ready for Implementation when the office is obtained.
4. C.A. POLICY
The secretary of a meeting controls announcements from the podium and sharing.
5. LOAN TO ORANGE COUNTY FOR NEW TELEPHONE ANSWERING DEVICE
A motion was made, seconded, and passed to loan the money to Laurence Bulleit from Orange County when available.
II. NEW BUSINESS
A. INVITING SECRETARIES TO G.S. MEETINGS
Lionel Brown suggested inviting meeting secretaries to the General Services meeting on a quarterly basis. A motion was made, but there was no second.
It was suggested that the G.S.R.s mention to their secretaries to ask for a C.S.R. report at their meetings.
B. MEETINGS NEEDING SUPPORT
1. Thursday, Cedars-Sinai
2. Century City – Saturday – to announce between now and April 7.
C. G.S.O. BOARD ELECTION
Gil M. stated that elections for the G.S.O. Board will be held at the June monthly G.S.R. meeting. Lionel pointed out that according to the C.A. bylaws, elections ore not to be held until November. Board members are to serve for one year. He said the bylaws can be changed by a simple majority of the Board.
A motion was made, seconded, and passed to bring a proposal to the Board to extend the Board*s current terra to one year, per the bylaws.

D. C.A. ORGANIZATION CHART AND CUIDE TO G.S.R.s
Lionel Brown and Teje Goldman will have the organization chart and the G.S.R. Guide ready by next month’s meeting.
The meeting adjourned at 9:15 p.m.
The next meeting of the General Services Board is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 11, 1984 at Johnny Segal’s house.
The next General Services Monthly meeting is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1, 1984 at Beverly Glen Hospital.
