I. Robin welcomed the new representatives to the group and they introduced themselves.
II. OLD BUSINESS
A. TREASURER’S REPORT
Mitch reported thot the current balance inn the General Services Account is $1132.75.
Mitch collected $216.65 in donations from this meeting.
B. TAX STATUS REPORT
Mitch explained the non-profit status and that the G.S.O. was waiting for a Tax ID number from Fresno.
The name of a CPA from the shills list was given to Mitch for help on tax reporting.
C. PUBLIC INFORMAT1ON
Robin described the Public Information projects currently in process:
- Involvement with the TV program “Chemical People”
- He has a meeting January 5 with KCET recording a vIdeologue and commercial. He will provide them with a short interview and a FACT FILE.
- The Commission on Alcoholism has been contacted. Fact Files will be sent to 87 offices
- 5 or 6 diversion programs are Interested In C.A..
- An article on C.A. appeared in the “Metro” section of the L. A. Times on January 3, 1984.

C. PUBLIC INFORMATION (continued)
Robin defined the responsibilities of the committee members:
- Robin – TV, radio, courts, bar, and L.A. County services
- John O – newspapers and hospitals
- Gil – national directory
Gil has begin call In; other states regarding the status of their meetings. he has mailed out C.A. literature to these people: Fact Files, fleeting directories, and “To The Newcomer” pamphlets. In 2 weeks Gil feels he will have a national directory.
Gil did a radio Interview for XYXI Portland. The G.S.O. will receive a cassette* of the interview.
D. LITERATURE COMMITTEE
Mitch said he would contact Janice on January 4, 1984 to follow up on the Formation of the literature committee.
E. OFFICE MANAGER’S REPORT
Ray requested another volunteer for manning the phones. He suggested that the reps ask at individual meetings for volunteers. The phone service is functioning smoothly.
F. NATIONAL C.A. REPORT
Ray reiterated that Gil was calling states to find out their status. See notes under Public Information above.
G. ATHLETICS COMMITTEE REPORT
Stave and Neil met and discussed potential activities. They will continue to meet and begin to make calls to organize such activities as bowling, ski trips, nature hikes, and dodger tickets.
H. MARATHON MEETING
Robin reported that the marathon was a success. He said Chat there were 15 – 30 people each hour until midnight and up to 150 people per hour from midnight until 3:00 a.m. He mentioned that the G.S.O. took in $160 to $170. He spent $115 on food. $30 on chips, and $50 – $60 on literature.

The methodology for distributing skills lists fur maximum response was discussed.
J. MEETING CHANGES/ADDITIONS
Bud from Clare Foundation volunteered a meeting for Monday or Tuesday night. (towards the Marina)

2. Francie will secretary a new Monday day meeting
3. There may be a meeting started at City Park In Santa Monica
4. Bud may start a Tuesday or Thursday day meeting.
5. A new Woman’s Stay meeting has begun on Thursday night from 8 – 9:30 p.m. The address is 1430 Centinela Ave. It is at a Baptist Church.
6. A place In Torrance needs a secretary for a meeting.
7. Care Unit meeting needs support.
8. Thurs. Cedars needs support.
9. A new meeting is starting on Saturday in Pasadena at Las Encinas Hospital at 7:30 p.m.
10. There will he a new meeting in Riverside.
K. C.A. SLOGAN
The G. S. Board created a slogan to he used on KPRO Riverside for a 20-second spot:
“Cocaine –If you are trying to control it, you may have already lost control”
L. THURSDAY CEDARS MEETING FINANCES
Arthur said that he talked with the secretary regarding the financial status of her meeting. She stated that thev had enough money to cover this month. The turnout is getting better. She does not need financial support now, so Arthur will check again in February.
III. NEW BUSINESS
It was requested that anyone approached by the news media should refer them to the G.S.O.
A motion was mode and passed to have an ad placed in “Variety” magazine asking for people interested in donating office space for $1.00 per month to contact C. A.
Loads on office buildings and savings and loans available for meeting space was requested of the reps.
More chips will be available by the end of this week or next week.

Ray mentioned N.A.’s Hotline called and asked if they could give out our phone number.
Francie mentioned that she was uncomfortable with the part in the L. A. Times article stating that C.A. was an offshoot of A. A. She suggested calling the reporter who wrote the article and explaining that C.A. is not an offshoot. The representatives agreed; John O. will call the reporter, but will not ask for a retraction, just to keep it in mind for future reference.
The meeting adjourned at 9:02 p.m.
The next monthly meeting is scheduled for February 7, 1984 at 7:00 p.m. at Beverly Glen Hospital.
