MINUTES: COCAINE ANONYMOUS GENERAL SERVICES BOARD MEETING
DECEMBER 6, 1983

I. OLD BUSINESS

A. TREASURER’S/FINANClAL HEPURT

Mitch reported that the balance in the General Services account was the same us last week.

Gil mentioned that he has $55.00 in sold C.A. chips.

B. TAX STATUS

Mitch explained that the IRS was requesting additional information:   a proposed budget for 2 years, any salaried persons, etc. He will send them a C.A. directory, Fact File, meeting formats, and samples of the minutes by December 21.

C. PUBLIC INFORMATION

Barbara said the L.A. Times article may come out Thursday, December 8.

Gil requested that his duties be reiterated. They are as follows:

1. Notify papers (Recycler, etc.)
2. Contact parks
3. Contact hospitals (for panels, etc.)
4. Write a thank-you letter to Rif
5. Work with the networks

Tom Kinney did a 20-minute radio spot in Riverside.

Johnny suggested taping C.A. TV spots.

D. TELEPHONE STATUS

Ray presented the new list of people to man the phones. The phone service will be effective Wednesday, December 7

Ray requested that he be notified if the C.A. phone number or Tom Kinney is on the media because the number of calls increases and he needs to be prepared.

E. NEW TEAR’S EVE MEETING

The marathon meeting will be held at the Union Hall at Sunset and Gardner from 6:00 p.ra. until 6:00 a.m. The length of each meeting will be one hour with speaker, participation, or topic formats.

There was discussion on conducting the meeting. It was decided that someone from the General Services Board should be present at all times for support services. Each person would attend for 2 hours and would take 1 meeting. Assign­ments are as follows:

6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. – Johnny S.
8:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. – Barbara V.
10:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m. – Robin
12:00 a.m. – 2:00 a.m – Ray G.
2:00 a.m. – 4:00 a.m. – Arthur
4:00 a.m. – 6:00 a.m. – Mitch

Gil proposed recruiting volunteers to leud the remaining 6 meetings at the monthly General Services meeting.

Arthur will set up coffee and chairs before the meeting begins and John 0. will be asked to help clean up.

F. AA-CA PARTY

Johnny stated that the C.A. name was not on the party posters and that it is not considered to be an AA-CA event.

A discussion commenced on taking money from the party as a donation and announcing the event at C.A. meetings.

Johnny suggested that the subject be mentioned at the monthly general meeting and that C.A.’s position would be that only C.A.-approved activities can be mentioned during a meeting. Ticket sales, discussion, etc. can take place outside the doors.

G. SKILLS LIST

Gil presented the form to the bourd und it was approved. Robin will print 1,000 copies to be handed out at the monthly general meeting.

H. LITERATURE COMMITTEE

Mitch requested that the G.S. Board think about literature requirements and present their ideas at the next meeting.

The meeting formats were discussed. It was suggested that the portion of the paragraph referring to chip presentation be amended to read “free from cocaine, alcohol, marijuana, and all other mind-altering chemicals”. Mitch will meet with the Literature Committee and prepare a format for the general meeting for discussion.

Gil will prepare a cover letter for the C.A. Fact File.

I. MEETING CHANGES/ADDITIONS

Barbara reported that the Thursday Cerritos meeting will change to Tuesday night in a couple of weeks.

Gil mentioned that there is a free room available in Torrance for meetings on several nights.

It was agreed that G.S.O. Board meetings will continue to be held on Wednesdays. Meetings of all representatives will be held monthly on the first Tuesday of each month.

The next monthly General Services meeting will be held on Wednesday, December 14 at 7:00 p.ra. The General Services board will notify all meeting representatives. Directories, New Year’s Eve Meeting flyers, chips, and Volunteers Skills forms will be provided. The board will meet prior to the meeting at 6:30 p.m.

J. G.S.O. OBJECTIVES

Johnny stated that a Sports Committee was being formed.

It will consist of Steve, Neil, and Marshall. They will meet and report to the General Services board.

A suggestion was made to create a list of potential meeting secretaries.

II. NEW BUSINESS

A motion was made and passed to begin the General Services meetings with the Serenity Prayer and close with the Lord’s Prayer.

The meeting adjourned at 9:40 p.m.

The next board meeting will he held on Wednesday, December 21, 1983 at Johnny’s house at 7:30 p.m.
