Susan B – I had written a letter that was included in the SR-14 about the use of the word ‘picnic’ with the C.A. Logo. I believe it was 2009 when this was brought up on the floor about how this word could not be used with the C.A. logo, but no one can find this info in the minutes. Picnic is part of our culture. I believe this issue was an isolated issue.
Susan B – Motion – To allow the word ‘picnic’ to be used with the C.A. logo.
Tony D – This has been seconded, do you want to speak to your motion?
Susan B – I researched the origin of the word and the situation probably did happen, but I think it is time to move forward from that.
Ronald A – Just hearing what I just heard, I was a delegate when that passed. Just cuz something is ‘cultural’ to some is not ‘cultural’ universally.
Russell S – I speak against the motion, I believe this is a non-issue.
Elizabeth S – Point of Information, was this seconded?

Kevin M – Speak in favor. About 10 years ago, an urban legend went around on the internet that caused some concern about the use of this word.
Maria M – Request info, why do we need to ask permission as I can’t find anything in our manual against this. Where is this?
Susan B – My recollection was this motion was passed on this floor, but no one can find it. That is why I am bringing it up.
Danny B – Want to say thanks to the outgoing delegates. It was reported they might go to different pastures, come see us!
Willey B – Parliamentary inquiry, is this not better served by referral so someone who can look through the previous minutes?
Tony D – The maker of the motion did make a referral, but it was lost so she is bringing it up this way. Gloria – In 2001, this issue came up, about the names of different holidays such as Christmas, Easter, etc, and that motion was passed. I speak against this motion. Dane T – Speaks against this motion, it is not the right thing to do.
Gregory A – Speak against the motion, there was a time when I used the term ‘picnic’ on a flier, but was contacted by emailed by a Trustee and told we didn’t use the word picnic on fliers. Why do we need to use something to hurt unity?
Rob W – I was a committee chair when this came up, we struck the word from the guidelines, we didn’t motion. WSBT responded to this and stated this was an outside issue.
Sandra A – Speak against the motion, I came in because I almost died from drugs. The label I use for a gathering of people in the fellowship doesn’t matter and should not be dictated in the manual.

Elizabeth S – Against the motion. This was originally brought up by SGPV used to call the events a picnic, there was a NewsGram article about not using the word, think it is important to leave outside issues outside. Need to honor people when they say something makes them uncomfortable.
Blake – This was brought up in our last Area meeting, we discussed it and I didn’t know why it was an issue. Was explained why, and was decided that our Area would use the word ‘picnic’ as it was an outside issue.
Michael C – I was a new delegate when this was brought up in regards to the Unity event that year. It caused a lot of dysfunction at that time. People are entitled to their feelings and should not affect C.A. in this way
Derek H – If there is nothing in the manual about using the word ‘picnic’ and just going off people’s memories, why are we even voting on this?
Kevin M – Point of Order, if there is nothing in the manual, then this is a moot issue and this motion has no effect and will accomplish nothing. I don’t know what voting it down would do either. Don’t know what we are doing here.
Tony D – There was a motion, as I remember. This is about if we as a body want to use this word. Henry A – Things that happen here are considered the ‘rule’ of C.A. It is the purpose of this conference to provide words we can use, not words we can’t use. Speak in favor of the motion.
Morgan T – Against the motion, it was news to me that anyone was offended by this word. Being here now, I’ve seen evidence that people are offended by the word. Don’t want anyone to feel unwelcome here, why use a word that could cause this to happen.
Patrick S – Based on the First Tradition, we are about unity. This word does have cultural issues and causes discomfort for some people.

Susan B – 5th Concept Statement – This is personally painful for me to bring to this floor, but there is a fight in my Area on this issue. My Area wanted me to bring this to this body, so I am doing my job. I don’t want to see the voice of this Conference diluted to where everything is a suggestion. Don’t mean to cause controversy.

Susan L – We won’t be here next year. We are moving to the Sheraton Gateway down the street. Dates are Aug 28 thru Sept 2nd, 2015. $109 room rates single occupancy, $119 for double occupancy. Info will probably go out in the January Delegate mailing. Tony D – The new hotel is a pretty impressive place.
Trevor S – Can the Vice Chair of the WSOB come up here to help auction off the signed Meditation book, A Quiet Peace. All proceeds will go to the WSO. Sold for $420.
Pierre B & Merelda B – A lot of people have come up to us and state how happy they are we are here. We would not have a fellowship in South Africa without everyone sitting here and the help of the WSO. I sent an SOS email asking for help. People came to our convention and brought us items we had never

seen before. Things you take for granted. We started with little money. We now have 10 meetings. You are so blessed as you can go to a meeting every day. If not for Russell, we wouldn’t have this. If not for you, we wouldn’t be here. Thank you.
