CAWS H&ICOMMITTEE REPORT
INTRODUCTION AND OPENING COMMENTS
The last year has been an eye opening experience; we started off with very little direction wondering what to do next. This year we have been revitalized with some radical ideas from both our new and existing members! Thank-you all for your interest and efforts in the Committee; It is clear to see the passion our membership has for H&I and all the new members it brings to this fellowship. This Committee has truly inspired me and I am proud to be a member.

Creative Writing Sub-Committee
Chair: Michael O

Statement of Purpose: The creative writing committee is looking forward to getting our fellow C.A. members excited about sharing their experience in print, and enlightening them to how they are able to write their story and inspire all the readers of our quarterly NewsGram, from newcomers to old timers alike. Our duties are to encourage, solicit, and collect the wonderful masterpieces that are submitted by our fellowship as well as collecting there lease forms in order to publish their stories.
Goal for the Year: To be a conduit between editor of the NewsGram and the members of the fellowship whose stories they wish to share. This year, we the creative writing sub-committee of H&I aim to make sure that all are aware of this opportunity to be of service. Our mission is to issue a flyer that states the need of submissions of H&I stories and include contact information, for the H&I corner of the NewsGram publication is attached to the closing report. Special thanks to Heidi Jonathan, who is not here this week, but still doing service work by getting information to us.

Correctional Referral Sub-Committee

Statement of Purpose: Responsible for answering inmate letters and informational inquiries. This sub-committee has set up a system with the WSO to retrieve and answer letters; this will help us to ensure all people get a proper response mailed to them.
The system set up is as follows:
- Letters are sent to the WSO.
- The letters are reviewed by the WSO and literature is sent to the inmate right away.
- Once the Literature has been sent, the letter is then scanned and saved to the Correctional Referrals folder on the H&I Yahoo group.
- The secretary of the CR sub-committee retrieves the letters from H&I Yahoo Group and then sends them via email to the appropriate area.
- Personal responses may include many different items, such as: Meeting lists, Websites, Hotlines numbers, Sponsorship, information of how to start a meeting, and any other information requested about the program of Cocaine Anonymous.
- Follow up with sub-committee members to make sure that responses were sent.
Goals for the Year: Our goal is to continue responding to letters that we receive in a timely manner. This year we answered 47 letters.
Outreach Sub-Committee

Statement of Purpose: Our primary purpose is to carry the message of recovery to the still suffering addict and newcomer. We are committed to being there for all H&I Committees, Areas, and Districts to assist them in any way possible. We will reconnect by opening up a line of communication to promote unity from within. It is our mission to outreach to the existing H&I community in order to assist them with information as it pertains to H&I.
The Outreach members have divided the seven C.A. regions as follows:

Goals for the Year:
- To encourage the formation of C.A. Lifeline Committees within our fellowship
- To continue in our attempt to track and encourage growth in our fellowship by maintaining quarterly contact with our Regional Trustees to get quarterly meeting totals and develop contact with H&I chairs from our Areas and Districts so the H&I meeting information is readily assimilated.
- To handle concerns related to H&I with-in the fellowship by maintaining a relationship with our Regional Trustees, our H&I, Area and District Chairs and respond to requests related to H&I issues.
- To develop a contact list of H&I Chairs within our Areas and Districts to open a channel for information to be readily exchanged. This goal will be achieved through contacting our Regional Trustees, our Area Chairs, and Area Delegates to find out who their H&I Chairs are and by obtaining contact information for the H&I Chairs.
Guidelines Sub-Committee

Statement of Purpose: The Guidelines sub-committee is committed to revising Guidelines through re-formatting and adding Conference approved literature. Any changes to the existing guidelines must go through the approval process and maintain a proper copy of the guidelines available on the World Website.
The guidelines are subject to ongoing housekeeping; this housekeeping will be directed at making the guidelines as clear and concise as possible. This sub-committee is responsible for incorporating all changes decided on at Conference in response to the referrals received.

2014H&I-1- To remove the H&I can as a separate fund raising tool of H&I. The simple fact is H&I is not an autonomous entity within C.A. it’s not unlike any other standing committee. H&I like PI should have a designated budget. Passing a separate can creates financial dispensation from financial responsibility of the Area or District. It creates an unfair disadvantage and the language in the H&I Guidelines almost insinuates that its expenditures are agreed on by only its committee when in fact any funding should reside in the body in which created the committee either the District or the Area. When H&I has more money in donations then the District does to pay for vital necessities like rent, it creates an unfair disadvantage. And to use H&I money for anything other than H&I is fraud.
Response –Per the H&I Guidelines (page 6, paragraph 2), “Each C.A. group is of course autonomous; the decision on whether or not to pass the H&I Can must be the result of a group conscience by the meeting in question.”

CLOSING COMMENTS
We would like to ask all of you to please bring back to your areas, the idea of the Lifeline if it has not started up in your area. This is a very new tool in C.A., used to help our fellowship grow; it has worked extremely well in areas such as Arizona. These fellowships have grown tremendously as a direct result of efforts put into H&I and its Lifeline.
This Committee is really interested in getting our surveys back to analyze the data and track our growth around the world. If you haven’t already filled out this survey that was handed out during the opening reports; please fill it out and place it in the box on the back table! We would appreciate your help on this; without you it is nearly impossible to gather all this information. One Survey was handed out to each area; the information you provide us on the Survey will help us to, reach out to Areas struggling with H&I and help them start-up Lifeline.

Jon H- Have you or do you have any plans to get more books into facilities?
Adrian H – Absolutely. The WSO has been involved and helping with sending literature.
Linda F – When a letter comes to us, they are requesting specific material and we send it to them. Adrian H – Life Line is to get inmates connected with the fellowship before being discharged….and help them get to their first meeting.
Barbara N – When the committee discusses upgrading the video, keep in mind that C.A. is not drug specific.
Susan B – Does the committee have any plans to start a campaign to be proactive in sending books, and meeting into facilities?
